Whats the reason most of the fish in the pictures are square-shaped, rather than fish-shaped  ?

A square piece of fish immediately reduces the appeal of the meal in my opinion

For all those querying the mushy peas, ensure you have a couple of squirts of vinegar into them, you'll get it then.

You think you could eat a whole one?

Inshore cod range from 27-34 inches in length and weigh between 6 and 12 pounds, while offshore Atlantic cod are usually 40-42 inches long and weigh 25 pounds, but some can grow to be six feet long.

Captain Birdseye for you ?

Agreed.

Better to retain the natural shape of the Cod.

Wow.....were they listening?

As if by magic they switched to Cod and upped their act.

On today's showing not just a contender but taking the lead IMO.

Weds so not a special at 249 Baht.

Excellent.

Fancied this today but not on their Hungry Now menu.

It's allowed on a Wednesday apparently.

TBH I haven't tried Nicky's mushy peas for years when they used to mash garden peas with a fork. If someome tells me they've sorted it I'm in next time.....promise.

It's not at Cafe Pitini.  I had to spit out the one bite I took.  Really off texture on their fish.  They do a better job than most for breakfast but their fish has soured me on eating there again for the foreseeable future.

It’s pangasius from the Mekong delta.  Very inexpensive but not very well liked.

Have Nickys replaced the haddock with cod then….now then….trying not to sound as Jimmy Saville. Looks good but still the old chips that need improving.

You cannot escape the spell or the lure of the Thai darkside Kyrano!!! Posted Image

What do you expect a portion of butterflied cod loin....in batter....to look like?

It's not going to be fillet shaped if that's what you mean.20220104_175405.jpg.d1dbf5ac3536e39801943e05187ccd04.jpg

Thanks for the heads up.  I will avoid that fish in the future.  Disgusting.

It’s a farmed catfish, also called ‘dory’.  If you see fish on the menu that’s not explicitly named, this is usually what you get.

Maybe its just me but when someone says they had cod and chips i expect the fish to look like..well...a fish, but in your defence you said it was cod loin so fair enough.

My local UK chippie was raided by the Council for selling ‘Cod & Chips’ when it was really Pangasius & Chips.

The local paper then ran quite a long feature on it, saying the cost Pangasius is only 25% the price of Cod, so they were making a fortune from the scam.

They closed for a while, paid a hefty fine, and then after a bit of rebranding the same owners opened it up again a few months later.  They even then put big signs up everywhere saying ‘We only sell quality Cod’.

And do you know what?  I now realise that I fucking preferred the Pangasius and wish they would bring it back……
