Everton Academy director suddenly leaves role after just one year in charge

Everton Academy director Dr Peter Vint has left the Merseyside club after only one year in the job.

Vint, recruited from the Team USA Olympic Committee, has made a sudden and unexpected departure days after he announced the appointment of a new head of Academy coaching.

There is no official explanation at this stage for his exit beyond the American being allowed to pursue ‘other projects’. However, there was no suggestion a change was imminent when Vint oversaw more additions to his department last week.

Only six days ago the director publicly welcomed a new head of Academy coaching Dave Adams from Swansea. The club's press release stated this was ‘following an extensive recruitment process led by Dr Peter Vint’, with Vint adding the new arrival ‘will be a tremendous complement to our coaches, to me and our Academy management team’.

Less than a week later, Everton are seeking Vint's replacement.

“Peter has left the club to pursue other opportunities. We wish him the best in his future pursuits,” the club confirmed.

Vint moved to Everton last season in what was intended to be a forward-thinking measure to ensure the club secured one of the leading sports science experts.

He was headhunted by Everton following his work in the United States where he was senior director of competitive analysis, research and innovation for the country’s Olympic committee.

His appointment came at a time when it was intended he would form a close working relationship with former manager Roberto Martinez. However, Martinez's demise in the second half of last season followed by the appointment of Ronald Koeman left the new arrival looking isolated in his role before he had settled into his office.

There have been murmurings at Academy level that Vint's lack of football experience was creating a challenging and at times difficult environment in the junior levels.

It is known several specialist football coaches at Goodison did not particularly agree with some of the changes he was introducing.

In an interview with Telegraph Sport earlier this season, Vint acknowledged his methods were a break from tradition and he was encountering cynicism.

“I have experienced a bit of that,” he said. “It comes from some uncertainty and curiosity and perhaps even some discomfort people have about having someone who comes from such a different background being put in this position. Who is this guy? What does this mean? Is he going to ‘Moneyball’ us?”

Earlier this week Vint’s teenage son took to social media to claim he was signing for Manchester United rather than heading to Everton’s youth set-up. The 15-year-old later deleted the post. Everton's coaches were aware of the youngster and had not been particularly impressed with him, but Goodison officials are adamant that is not related to Vint's departure.

Everton's current head of operations at the Academy, Joel Waldron, is in the frame to fill the vacancy.

Sadly Everton lost to Liverpool yesterday.

I hate saying this but Liverpool were the better side and deserved to win

And here is a video of some Liverpool fans

What about a compilation video of dirty tackles from barkley. You could start with saturdays game.

Everton were outplayed everywhere and the only tactic they had left was to foul.

Romelu who? that game should quiet him down for a bit. You can thank us for that.

Admittedly most Liverpool fans will condemn it,but the fact remains Liverpool fans have aways tried to get across the image of all being jovial affable scousers always up for a laugh, many are i have no doubt, but like all other clubs they have plenty of the other sort!

Its not in great taste, but its being sung in a bar with no evertonians around. No one got hurt and i'd expect the same from any other supporters.

A broken leg song is nothing compared to chanting songs about a plane disaster - united in munich of course. Thankfully things have calmed down a lot.

For acceptable behaviour ..........everton should start with their players. They clearly know all about breaking legs!

Irrespective of where, when and the ferocity, these so called supporters are complete scum.

I've been at games where players have been badly injured and the whole crowd shows their support and appreciation no matter which side they are playing on. No-one with half a brain cell wants to see any player playing the game we love for our entertainment to get injured. The games are always quite quiet and sombre if this happens early on.

I'm not an Evertonian but I wish Seamus all the best and a speedy recovery.

Sadly you have a negative way at looking at things.  I'm glad I don't know you.  just out of interest can you name an Everton player that has broken a players leg???

Also I have seen many Derby games where Liverpool players have been very dirty.

Since 1989 Everton fans have backed Liverpool to the hilt over Hillsborough so I dont expect Liverpool fans to take the piss out of an Everton player who has just broken his leg.

The point was ....its just a song, by a small group of enclosed fans. No i wouldn't be singing it. No i don't approve, but its judt a song.

The irony bit, is that barkley could've broken someone's leg on saturday. Not a one-off poor judgement ....appears he's got a reputation for it now. We are fighting for a champions league place, so bad tackles and injuries are overly sensitive at this point in the season for us.

Anyway, lets move on. I hope you thrash united tonight and it would be great to see liverpool and everton ahead of the real enemy that lives at old trafford [emoji6]

Good luck.

I think you are making a mountain out of a ...    Just a bunch of idiots in a bar(pub?).  It was stupid but its not like they chanted it at Anfield.

So many people get outraged over piddly shit these days.  Hopefully the Blues can channel your red neighbor's success and get a point from the rags.

Well on Tuesday night we nearly beat Utd at Old Trafford.

United were lucky that there was so much added time otherwise Everton would have come away with all 3 points

Although you are a few years my senior Blue I hope Everton with their new owner and ground plans do regenerate themselves. As a kid and a young adult i can still remember bricking it before each derby. Us Liverpool fans were in genuine trepidation at the impending result. Sadly that is no longer the case. In fact i can't even remember the last time you beat us.

Worse still this has all happened whilst we have been in decline. It would be great to see the toffees a power again instead of fighting to be above mid table. The thought seems noble now but if it were to actually happen I am sure I would be less charitable ;-)

Its been just over 12 months since the new guy bought 49.9 per cent of Everton .  And it looks like we could become successful again in the future.  It looks like we now have the money to compete for better players.  And hopefully within the next 5 years we will have a new stadium on the waterfront.

I can remember back in the 80's Everton and Liverpool finished in the top two places for 3 seasons on the run

Everton's reserve team are currently top of there league.  They are 5 points ahead of 2nd placed Manchester City.  So with only 2 games left it looks like our reserve team are going to be crowned champions

There last 2 games are tough games.

Next Friday (21st) they are away to 5th placed Chelsea

And they will then finish with a home game on the 8th May against 3rd placed Liverpool.

Hopefully they will get the point(s) they need against Chelsea
