England Australia Ashes 2019

This series is exactly what test cricket needed. Next test is going to be awesome, England have their backs up and Australia hopefully have the best test batsman since Bradman back in the side.

All credit to the Poms and especially Stokes. Brilliant stuff.

It's never over till the fat lady sings.....  Probably the greatest Test Knock I have seen in my 60 years... Probably the worst Australian Captain I have seen, although Kim Hughes is only beaten by a nose for that one...

Joel Wilson... jesus.. what can you say.. Appointed for the first three Tests... Stood in 2 and was 3rd umpire in the other. Apart from Steve Bucknor, late in his career, the worst umpire I can remember. The numbers prove it. He had the record number of decisions overturned in the first test, and then can't see a bloke plumb LBW..which in the long run could cost the Aussies the Ashes. He had to have thought it was close.. so why not give it out and let the batsman review?  That would be the smart thing... To the naked eye the ball straightened and was never going to miss the wicket. Had he done that, he would not be seen as the incompetent umpire that he is being seen as today.. Just dumb.

Herein lies the problem. There are 12 members of the ICC Elite Umpire Panel. Seven of those, and probably the 7 best of them, come from England and Australia. Yet, they are ineligible to stand. So you are left with five to choose from for an Ashes Series... Lunacy. The South African Erasmus and the Sri Lankan Dharmasena will stand in the next two tests, both of them are generally pretty good...

IMO, it is time for the best available umpires to stand in the best matches...

Great win by the Poms... But with Smith back, and one of the other batsmen to make way for him (probably Head or Kuwaja) and the now "must be selected" Starc replacing one of the fast bowlers, IMO it should be Pattinson... things aren't too bad for the Aussies..

Looking forward to the next one....

Agree with you on all of the above. I watched most of the final day and i have to admit I had a smile on my face watching the crowd going off when Stokes fired up. It was like watching a T20 match go down to the wire. Great stuff. Can't wait to see what happens next.

One of our (Aussie) nightly news put it best I think ........

”An Aussie blunder, an umpire howler, and Ben Stokes brilliance, how the Aussies lost the third Ashes test match”

Think it was more Hawkeye howler myself. One of the worst I've seen

It looked to be missing leg or perhaps brushing it to me to the naked eye. Hawkeye has took no consideration of the deflection off the front pad. The trajectory it displayed from pitch to final impact point (back pad) is entirely different to the trajectory from pitch to initial impact point (front pad). It's a known flaw in the technology which was badly exposed with that LBW.

It's not being talked about because it doesn't suit the Auzzie media agenda and the English media don't give a shit because they won.

Stokes said as much in his post match presser. The ball didn't turn. It was impossible for it to take the predicted trajectory Hawkeye showed.

Joel Wilson has been awful but that wasn't a bad decision. The technology has been exposed here and they need to fix it.

Pom cricket team is awesome and they deserved to win. Some of their fanboys look like they enjoyed their time with Jenny a little too much.

Either way,  surely would have been called out if the Aussies hadn't burnt that referral.  Total brain snap, clearly pitched outside leg. If. But "If your aunty had balls she'd be your uncle"  as the old saying goes.  "That's cricket".  Test cricket needs great stories and it certainly got one that will be talked about for decades. Got to hand it to the Poms on this occasion.

Best match ever? Has to be right up there.

Tenner says the last two are both draws due to the shitty and unpredictable UK weather lol.

Weather forecast iffy for Manchester test , no suprise there !

Australia have dropped Usman Khawaja for the super sub who will bat at 3  , also no James Pattinson . Maybe Mitch Starc will get his first game .

Jimmy Anderson ruled out of series ,  Jason Roy moved to middle order where he is just as likely to score bugger all . Joe Denly opens .

Denly opening.... ok... we will take that. With Roy, he proves that white ball form doesn't always translate well to the red ball game... If the Aussies don't play Starc this test, I am giving up on 'em. Last test we needed a bloke who specialises at cleaning up tails, and that man is Starc. I don't know why Pattinson was preferred, an absolute mystery to me, and in the end, IMO, it proved very costly...

Bring it on!!! Looking forward to it..

I think Starky will be duly fired up.  Unleash the beast.  Just be prepared for a few byes to the boundary.

Kawaja unlucky...he’s crap at number three and it’s been proved yet again.  Man has the highest average for an opener ... when opening ... ever.

england's batting is awful so they drop a bowler (woakes, who is one of our better batsmen), overton in. butler playing as a specialist batsman at number seven. the england management's thinking is just as befuddled as ever.

Brrrrrrr  Can the Aussies cope with a test match played in cool windy grey showery Manchester conditions?  14-16c expected for the first three days showery especially Day 1 and 3. Can England find a way to get Steve Smith out cheaply?  Buttler and Roy need to start contributing and transferring one day form into five day cricket. Losing Anderson is a big blow at his home test match ground. But all round Stokes form is a big factor for England. Nathan Lyon gives the Aussies an edge in the spin bowling department.

Its going to be close one, too close to call and the bookies are confirming this. Maybe a draw and take 1-1 to the last test and a thrilling finale at the Oval

Yes the Manchester weather max 16.  Low 7.  Could be the coldest test match ever   And overcast sky’s  .
