MC burger on Soi Bukhao is a recent entry in Pattaya's crowded field of hamburger restaurants.  It's located roughly halfway between Pattaya Tai and LK Metro,  about 50 meters south of, and on the same side of the road,  as the ill-named Action Street.

MC Burger has some new signage to help you find the place

I think you're confusing Easy Health with an entirely different "health" restaurant at Fairtex that has been there for many years.

So's Place on Soi 15 behind The Avenue mainly serves Thai food, so I have written a separate review elsewhere in this section.  However, on Saturdays So's does offer a BBQ smoked pork rib dinner U.S. style for 299 baht.  The rib dinners start at 6.30 p.m. and continue until the ribs run out. It's also possible to order the ribs without the side dishes for 199 baht.  That's probably a nod to take-away customers and to the farang diners'  Thai lady companions  who like ribs but not Western side dishes.

01.jpg

The dinner consists of a half rack of pork ribs (six ribs), two pieces of sweet corn, coleslaw and half a baked (and steamed?) potato topped with  cheddar cheese, sour cream and chives.

02.jpg

The ribs had a nice smoky flavor.  The meat wasn't falling-off-the-bone tender, but many rib enthusiasts say that if the meat literally falls off the bone, it's been overcooked.  My grandfather used to say the meat "should have a bit of fight left in it."  There's no right or wrong about it; it's just a matter of personal preference.  But if you want fork-tender ribs, you won't find them at So's.  The BBQ sauce was tangy and not too sweet, with a definite kick to it.

03.jpg

The corn was very tasty, although I would have liked a pat of butter to go with it.  The coleslaw was the standard "school cafeteria" variety.  There was nothing wrong with it, but nothing very special, either.  The half-potato was a bit mushy for my taste, as though it had been baked and then steamed to reheat it.

Bottom line:  It's not the best rib dinner in Pattaya, but those better dinners will cost you a lot more than 299 baht.  For its price, it is good value for money.  Remember, though, the ribs are only available of Saturdays.  So's otherwise serves Thai food seven days a week.

Plenty of places to get a good meal for 300 baht.  Might as well ask "Where in Pattaya can I get a ST for 1000?".

I agree 100%.  There are several hundred restaurants that serve good farang dishes for under 300 baht.  That's why I started the thread.

It's fine to make recommendations without photos of good places to eat.

I like baby back ribs and when ready, about 30% of them fall off the bone.  That's how my Mom makes them (with her own sauce) and I haven't found many restaurants beat them in North America, other than some Rib specialty places, anyway.  I no longer order ribs anywhere as I'm usually disappointed.

Not that those pictured are something bad, but I like what I like.

I've been living dangerously this week.  I had the Ozzy burger at Kilkenny last night as I continue to meander along Coronary Lane.

That was quite an impressive burger for 185 baht including fries. It consisted of a thick beef patty topped with cheese, fried onions, side  bacon, fried egg and a slice of grilled pineapple. The beef patty rested on a layer of pickled beets, a couple of slices of tomato and a lettuce leaf.  A toasted bun held this hefty concoction together. The fried egg had been splashed with HP Sauce, but there wasn't any other dressing on the burger.

The cook sure didn't skimp on any of the ingredients; there was a lot of beef, cheese, bacon and beetroot, making it a very filling meal.  I'm not a fan of pineapple on burgers, so I pushed the slice aside and had it as a mini-dessert when I had finished the rest.

There are a lot of theories about how beetroot, fried egg and grilled pineapple came to be added to hamburgers,  One popular version claims it was a prank played on U.S. servicemen in Australia during both WW II and the Viet Nam War.  There may be some truth in that story, but Australian food historians say beetroot, a very popular vegetable in Australia, had been added to hamburgers since the 1930s, a decade before the arrival of U.S. troops.  The most likely explanation may be that it was a combination of toppings that caught on with the Australia public.

I believe this was a one-day special at the Kilkenny in honor of Australia Day.  I liked it because it tasted fine and I enjoy trying burgers that are different from the ones you'd get at a truck stop in Norman, Oklahoma or Frog Leap, Tennessee. Maybe I'll have another Ozzy burger next year on Jan. 28.

Evil

I was in Australia years ago and even McDonald's put beet on the burger instead of pickles. No pineapple though.

One thing I like about this place is free refills on the soft drinks. I walk a lot in Pattaya for the exercise and, on a hot day, I can put down a liter or so with my meal. Carl's Jr. in Central Festival used to have free refills but, when I was there in February, it was gone. If it moved somewhere else, I never saw it.

Incredible thread, with all the pics, prices and reviews.  The competition to quell farang appetite is fierce and highly competitive driving prices down and quality up.

Now if only tourists would critique the same way  pertaining to Pattaya girls.  Contrary to popular belief,  a poor village girls' vaginal canal is not lined with gold!  55!

Not found any  restaurants putting their prices down nearly all have put their prices up in the last few months.

i have personally stopped using a few old favourites due to the prices going up ( no problem a fact of life) But the quality has also gone down or the portions have got smaller.

Kilkenny on LK Metro has lasagna as a special for 199 baht several times a week. It's not exactly the lasagna an Italian grandmother would make, but it's tasty and the portion is huge. It comes with three small slices of garlic bread and  salad on the side.

IMG_0018.jpg

The Kilkenny version of lasagna is very heavy on the meat filling and cheese topping, but light on the pasta. It's sort of like an upside down cottage pie with pasta instead of mashed potatoes.  The bechamel sauce that is used in some types of lasagna was most noticeable by its absence.

IMG_0021.jpg

There's nothing wrong with that.  Many traditonal recipes have been adapted by restaurants to suit the preferences of their diners and that's almost certainly the case with Kilkenny's lasagna.  But if your looking for a many-layered lasagna dressed with a lighter ragu-style sauce, that's not what Kilkenny's lasagna is about.

IMG_0014.jpg

Another special that Kilkenny frequently offers is liver and onions with bacon for 169 baht.  I'm not a fan of liver and onions, so I won't be ordering it.  According to a friend who does like it, it's done well at Kilkenny and again, the portion is large. This is a pic I lifted from Kilkenny's Facebook page:

IMG_0022.jpg

Bottom line:  If you're a hearty eater who wants a lot of food on his plate, you can't go wrong at Kilkenny.

No mention of lamb's liver.  I believe it is calf's liver as the friend who liked it is American and lamb's liver is rare as a component in liver and onions in the U.S.

I think the Licence to Grill at Retox soi Lengkee ribs special at B199 represents much better value:

Which burger is best in Pattaya is almost as controversial and contentious a question as how much to pay the girls or which go go bar has the prettiest dancers.

The difficulty for me in recommending restaurants with good burgers is quite simple:  I  seldom eat burgers in Pattaya.  I simply don't have enough experience on which to base a recommendation of the best in town.  Also, restaurants in Pattaya suffer from inconsistency.  What was once a great burger may have become a mediocre burger in the space of a week.

Price is another factor.  Are you looking to pay 150 baht or 500 baht for your burger?  The best burger for 150 baht is not necessarily the best in Pattaya.

There is a thread in this section (Best Burgers in Town?) which may be of some help,  but it's not up to date.

All that said, I don't want to wimp out too badly, so I will give you some options, although I DON'T claim any of them are the best in Pattaya.

1)  Many people strongly recommend the burgers at Big Kahuna in Jomtien:

Kahuna.jpg.c2df59f0892f2a3e33f5c5f8829a046f.jpg

2)  Dicey Reilly's in front of the Avani on 2nd Road has always had good burgers.  The lunch special below is 320 baht with soft drink:

5afeb8dbcb593_Diceys.jpg.db4dd4229d42be59ca0ffe7fa8f84625.jpg

This the Deluxe Burger at Dicey's.  The pics are  old, but the burger hasn't charged.

dicey4.jpg.f4395c1ffea43210d22f47624de9d3ba.jpg

3) Jim's Burger's Burger & Beers near central Marina used to be top-notch, but I've heard it's gone down.  The pic is from Jim's web site.  When I had it, the Cheesy Lava Burger at 210 baht was great.

5afeb8e47b2ba_Jims.jpg.f80ee23d7904429466b06f2a72c5cca7.jpg

4) The Ozzy Burger at Kilkenny is also good.  It's a bit "busy" for my tastes and I don't think pineapple belongs on a hamburger, but I just pulled out the slice of grilled pineapple and had it as dessert.

kilkenny.jpg.a0a821342ba7f5337a58416f854cd1b7.jpg

Some other possibilities are MC Burger* on Soi Bukhao; Walkabout Creek at the corner of Pattaya Tai and 2nd Road; and Hooters on Beach Road (very expensive).

I should also mention the "burger buffet" at the Hilton beside Central Festival if you have a big appetite and one burger isn't enough.

Capture.JPG.6d3742dc852522d282e0ca5d992c7a79.JPG

I hope this helps!
