If the mods were thinking of creating a thread on the World Cup, then they can delete this one

I'll start the ball rolling by predicting the World Cup final to be between Brazil & France

Feel free to remind me how wrong I got it in December, when both teams get knocked out in the group stage :P

I think there are 4 other threads but about where to watch, times etc and none are in the Sport section. I’ll try to put links here, lock those threads and we can keep this one.

I’ll start off by reposting a fixture list using Eastern Time. That means you just switch AM & PM and you get the times in Thailand.

lol

When was the last time the winner of the world cup started at odds better than 15/1

I did something similar to Davidge and came up with the exact same semi final teams except substituting Uruguay with Belgium

thai authorities have announced that matches will be free to air in Thailand so your hotel room may do the job .....but not provide the atmosphere you can get in a bar / sports bar. on

november 29, and 30

december 1 and 2

your hotel will not do as these are the last group games with teams to decide the last 16.

so 2 games kicking off at exactly  the same time.

england games in thailand kick off at

23.00 v Iran     on nov 21

14.00 v USA     on nov 25

02.00 v Wales  on nov 29

I can't find any reference to a definitive statement wrt Thai gov airing the games for free; as no licensed broadcast media is willing to fork out to cover it the gov did announce they would air it but they would also have to pay for this service so it sounds dubious.

Hope I'm totally wrong & some kind soul puts me right. 😎

You're here now where you should have been all along.

Okay so 3 questions, one highlighted by the guru of all things  Pattaya, Nick Dean....

1.Has it been confirmed yet who will be showing the games in Thailand?

2.Is there a time change coming in before the tournament?.

3.Will there be a late closing for the late games...??

1. sports authority of thailand have said if no company comes in to buy the tv  rights (unlikely with only about 1 month left) they will and provide it  free to air.

2. the times i have given for the england games are thai k.o.

3. almost certainly, cops want to watch the footy too.

England v France

Proper can't wait. The inevitable "it's coming home" chants from my countrymen, pissing off the rest of the UK by us being obnoxious twats, as we batter Iran and somehow convince ourselves that 4-0 vs France is possible before almost certainly producing a boring draw and losing on penalties.

Good old England 🤣

Some possible good news. On 15 November the Government are going to discuss extending official nightlife opening hours to 4am in some areas (including parts of Pattaya). If approved it would come into force immediately - just in time for the World Cup.

FIFA on Qatar World Cup: Nations told to stick to football, not politics

Kind of late for that. You give to World Cup to a nation with questionable, to say the least, reputation and expect everyone to behave normally.

As for for the tournament itself, i'm excited. For a first time in i don't know how many World Cups, no clear favourite can be pointed out. Should be fun.

in typical Thai fashion still nothing is finalized. exactly which bit of the government will pick up the bill etc. they have had years to plan for this but as usual confusion rains. i expect them to do a deal at almost the last minute (about 14 days to kick off ) as doing nothing would be extremely unpopular with the Thai people who love watching football as much as anybody else.

I don't know whether I'm looking forward to this or not, on one hand it's the World Cup and I do like my footy but on the other I think England will really struggle in the knockout stages I feel Southgate has fallen into the trap of past managers and picking a team on past tournament performances and reputation

Yma o Hyd lyrics in full

Dwyt ti'm yn cofio Macsen

Does neb yn ei nabod o

Mae mil a chwe chant o flynyddoedd

Yn amser rhy hir i'r co'

Pan aeth Magnus Maximus o Gymru

Yn y flwyddyn tri-chant-wyth-tri

A'n gadael yn genedl gyfan

A heddiw: wele ni!

(You don't remember Macsen,

nobody knows him.

One thousand and six hundred years,

a time too long to remember.

When Magnus Maximus left Wales,

in the year 383,

leaving us a whole nation,

and today - look at us!)

Ry'n ni yma o hyd

Ry'n ni yma o hyd

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Ry'n ni yma o hyd

Ry'n ni yma o hyd

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Er gwaetha pawb a phopeth

Ry'n ni yma o hyd

(We are still here,

we are still here,

in spite of everyone and everything,

in spite of everyone and everything,

in spite of everyone and everything.

We are still here,

we are still here,

in spite of everyone and everything,

in spite of everyone and everything,

in spite of everyone and everything.

We are still here.)

Chwythed y gwynt o'r Dwyrain

Rhued y storm o'r môr

Hollted y mellt yr wybren

A gwaedded y daran encôr

Llifed dagrau'r gwangalon

A llyfed y taeog y llawr

Er dued yw'r fagddu o'n cwmpas

Ry'n ni'n barod am doriad y wawr!

(Let the wind blow from the East,

let the storm roar from the sea,

let the lightning split the heavens,

and the thunder shout "encore!"

Let the tears of the faint-hearted flow,

and the servile lick the floor.

Despite the blackness around us,

we are ready for the breaking of the dawn!)

Cofiwn i Facsen Wledig

Adael ein gwlad yn un darn

A bloeddiwn gerbron y gwledydd

Mi fyddwn yma tan Ddydd y Farn!

Er gwaetha pob Dic Siôn Dafydd

Er gwaetha 'rhen Fagi a'i chriw

Byddwn yma hyd ddiwedd amser

A bydd yr iaith Gymraeg yn fyw!

(We remember that Macsen the Emperor

left our country in one whole piece.

And we shall shout before the nations,

"We'll be here until Judgement Day!"

Despite every Dic Siôn Dafydd,

despite old Maggie and her crew,

we'll be here until the end of time,

and the Welsh language will be alive!)
