What's that?

In case you haven't noticed no one cares for the female equivalent.

World Cup 2022’s signal through C-Band satellite dishes is going to be blacked out for the rest of the competition, starting tonight.

FIFA is blocking the signal after Thai authorities failed to stop the signal from being hijacked after 6 official warnings.

These are the countries that have been eliminated from the 2022 tournament so far.

Group A: Ecuador, Qatar

Group B: Iran, Wales

Group C: Mexico, Saudi Arabia

Group D: Tunisia, Denmark

Group E: Costa Rica, Germany

Group F: Canada, Belgium

Groups G and H conclude the final day of Group play in Qatar on Friday.

Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal, and Ghana are set to advance from those matches. That leaves Cameroon, Serbia, South Korea and Uruguay on the outside looking in.

Of course, a lot can change over the next 24 hours.

FIFA have the last round games kicking off at the same time, so no team gets an advantage.

Yet Spain kicks off knowing that if they get beat by Japan, then the Germans are out, and they get Morocco in the next round, not Croatia.

Absolutely!

I love traveling to Japan due to the cleanliness and the shy but polite demeanor of their citizens.

I can only recall seeing one homeless person in my 3 weeks total in the country.

Not really. At one point Costa Rica was up 2-1 against Germany. Had that score held up, Costa Rica (and Japan) would have been through, and Spain would be going home.

The rule is that if any part of the ball (including the part that's in the air, not touching the ground) is still in contact with the plane above the line, then the ball is in. A bit like in the NFL where the football only has to break the plane of the endzone to be a touchdown.

Looking at the replays, and especially some of the screenshots, it does look like a tiny bit of the ball was still hovering over the white line. Very close call, but the right one imo.

At the moment Costa Rica went 2-1 up against Germany it was Spain that more or less changed gear and started pushing for the equalizer. When it was 4-2 for Germany the score at that point was perfect for Spain as second in the group gives most likely Portugal in the quarter final instead of Brazil. At 2-1 down and a few minutes to go they played the ball around in the back and when they did move forward the passes were so bad it was easy for Japan to defend. Spain had absolutely no intention at the end of the game to go for 2-2. Added bonus: they more or less eliminated Germany as well.

Wonderful, wonderful game by the South Korean to advance to the knock-out stage. And their reward is a match against No. 1 ranked team in the world.... lol.

Netherlands - USA 3-1. Dutch PM Marc Rutte joking against Joe Biden on Twitter, "Sorry Joe, football beats soccer".

Biden wouldn't know the WC was on but let's leave politics out of it...

USA don't play soccer/ football so like the Aussies they're always gonna have a tough time putting a team together.

Aussies held their head high. 2-1 loss due to a mistake by the GC isn't so bad. Best result we've had since '06.

To be fair football has been growing in popularity in the US for a while, it wont compete with American football or baseball but it still attracts fans, the national team also give a good account of themselves and are no pushovers, they did actually reach the quarter finals in 2002 and thats their best finish to date.

The next WC will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Of those three Mexico is the only country where football is in the DNA of the people, but the USA and Canada have greatly improved in the last two decades. None of them will become world champion in 2026 but quarter finals could be realistic when they keep doing what they are doing now and have a little luck during the early stages of the tournament.

USA really does not give a crap about "soccer".

We only follow it if there is a team that has chance.

Youth soccer is popular but I expect 20-40 years before USA is competitive.

Woman sports are different, because the best athletics in the USA play baseball and football, but for the most part, are not available to women.

I coached youth soccer 45 years ago when it was the coming big thing. It's still popular among with school age children but has never made the transition to adult fans here except for those foreign born. I suspect the lack of regular television coverage is related to the lack of commercial breaks during 45 minute halves. There are also three popular alternative sports (football, baseball and basketball) soccer must compete with for fans in the U.S.

I just had this same 'discussion' with an american friend. 😄 Americians love the 348-348 tie with a single point winner in 43th overtime in a WWE atmosphere.
