Maybe I see things differently ...

I went by myself the first time ... great service , Start speaking Thai  with the staff; one of the Thai staff tells me the filipina wants to know where I’m from .... she can’t figure out where my accent is from.... I told her im from heaven 5555(

sefond time I bring my BKK gf... shes acting like a bitch so I have to tell her to get off her fucking phone and we kinda got in an argument ( mostly me being an asshole to my gf for burying her head in the phone when we are at a nice place to eat .... )..... and the service staff was still great..... the young Thai girl was watching it all... and she pretended to not being paying attention lol....by the end of the meal my gf was laughing and we ended up having a nice dinner experience even if I had to straighten her out at the table ( we got water and I filled my glass, ignoring my gf’s... and she looked up from her phone and said “ ohh, you don’t take care of lady?”... in a joking way.... but this furiated me because I think I take care pretty good .... the thai waitress heard my Thai gf say that and she looked at me to see how I would react, because it was very snobby for my gf to say that.. but at the time I just laughed it off

third time I went in with my gf again, we were both pretty jolly from a few drinks in some bars before going out .... this time I’m speaking Thai with the young Thai girl waitress and she doesn’t have a bf... called my gf my “wife”, blah blah...

 

I thought I noticed tension between young Thai  waitress and young pinay... but nothing to put the customer off or anything.... sometimes I’m so bored at a restaurant table I start looking around and thinking about stuff I see around too much.....

 

but like others have said ... great cafe.... my favorite place to eat on Walking Street... the calimarie is seriously some of the best in the World I’ve ever had... and I think it’s 150 -250 baht lol ridiculously cheap!  Incredible value ! And the service staff are always very good !!!!

By the  way, is the pinay cashier the owner? 

For some reason, even though the young pinay cashier is always in there when I’m there and we both speak English , I always find myself speaking Thai joking with the Thai staff moreso than talk with cute pinay ....the other day the pinay laughed and said my Thai is better than hers ( I don’t think she speaks much but I’ll take the compliment I guess). 

 

I hope this this place has a great high season.... they surely don’t do much advertising!

Popped in before for beef lasagne. What a lovely little place. I'm no food aficionado but it was perfect. 169b i think. Easily my favourite eating spot in pattaya. To be fair, i'm easily pleased and don't get out much

Gruesome hangover today. Figured a snack at WP would sort me out. Funny, i walked past shark gogo and remembered i paid 200b for a lady drink in there last night lol. Damn i must've been pissed 

Bolognese sandwich. 169b i think.

Oh you just reminded me!! how did i forget. It was the highlight of the evening lol.

As i walked out, nice ladyboy server was right next to the door. She didn't move a muscle. I had to open that big door all by myself  You must be VIP

I tried the pizza last night. Can't get excited about those crispy bases, i know many enjoy it that way. I'm a knife and fork guy and its weird crunching through a pizza.

I totally agree but it's not bad for the price and the toppings can be OK.

Yeh definitely and i'm so unfussy anyway. I don't think many pizza's in the UK have such a crispy base. I checked to see if it was burnt. 

It was better than tonights dinner anyway. I ate that out of a plastic cup lol

Obviously to each their own but Bolognese ( sauce ) on a dinner roll   topped with cheese ...... seems more like something you would create with leftovers at home , not a restaurant menu item.   Also, what is the point of the tartar sauce ?

I would suggest you order something else then. when I go to a restaurant I only order what I like....simple, right?  Tasty by the way, basically a hamburger mixed with tomato sauce

Isn't that usually for fish? Anyway i would call it a 'garlic dip'. Same same??

That chicken parmesan looks great. Gonna try that. I've never ordered one of those.

I'll just blurt it out. 

Something's different now about their calamari appetizer, which is main reason I've been going to White Pines (and always ordering something else as well).

Different bad.

I'm posting to see if it's a one off or if other people that like their calamari have the same experience. 

It's hard for me to describe exactly what's different, but I'll give it a try.

Dryer.

Less and different flavor.

Even the fried garlic doesn't taste the same.

The calamari pieces inside the coating seemingly smaller and also a smaller portion overall, but I wouldn't be posting this at all if it was just about portion.

The calamari meat not succulent like before.

Perhaps it's just a matter of overcooking and/or something with the oil.

I would have never loved this dish if it was like this before.

I did tell the staff and they were cool about it. Not to complain but to let them know so maybe they could fix it.

So, I'm posting to see about other people's recent experiences and from now on.

Sadly, they lost their head cook Som. Before she left I asked her if the new cook could make the calamari the same, and she assured me he could. But it sounds like he has a way to go to get it back to the high standard that it was before.

I agree with what you said.  I got turned on to the calamari by BM Beerbelly some months ago and thought it was great. I ordered it several times after that and it was really good.  However, my most recent experience with it was disappointing along the lines of what Kreggerz wrote.
