How do you know it was the fish that put you in the hospital? In January, there was a stomach virus going around. Also, typically, when someone gets food poisoning, it's not from the most recent thing they ate.

That's an important point.  We have to be very careful about blaming restaurant meals for food poisoning and other stomach problems.  It's a serious accusation to make.

I recall that the New York City Dept. of Health did a heavy duty study of 300 reports of food poisoning and found that most weren't really food poisoning at all.  Some other form of "gastrointestinal distress" was the cause.  Of the cases of actual food poisoning, only a handful resulted from restaurant meals.  Most cases were caused by contaminated food eaten at home.

I ate the sandwich. 4 hours later my stomach started feeling weird, flutters etc. By 4 hours after that I could not keep water down. That is good enough for me.

I agree that this is a serious accusation and maybe I should not have posted this, but in this case I am very sure. Yes, there is some chance that I am wrong and with regard to that I regret the initial post.

I will shut up about this.

I’ve been very ill twice in Pattaya. There is absolutely no doubt it was from a certain meal I ate. Different restaurants each time, and different type of food, but 100% sure about what caused it.

I rarely get food poisoning here. It actually happened recently and I'm quite certain it was from a specific restaurant that I can identify. But I won't for legal reasons.

  • 1 month later...

I thought it was time to give White Pines another shot. I went on Wednesday night with my girl.

For starters, she ordered larb moo spring rolls, and I ordered the calamari. I have never tried larb moo spring rolls before, but I thought they tasted nice and would order them again. While the calamari is still not 100% up to what it used to be, it IS getting closer. I'd say the texture is about the same as before and the taste is about 80% there. They still need more garlic and the batter/breading they use to coat the squid needs more seasoning. While not the dish I used to crave and make a special trip to get, I would order it again.

For our mains, my girl ordered some Thai soup which she thought was very tasty, and I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich. She told me they were out of the bread that it normally comes with so offered a standard burger bun, which I quite liked. It needed a little more sauce, but it was also good.

The waitress that told me to "wait" no longer works there. The manager told me she left, not sure if fired, but it sounded like she was happy she was gone.

The old cook, Som, is no longer at Pattaya Park and is cooking in a restaurant on North Pattaya Road. I asked the name of the shop, but the manager could not recall the name. It sounded like she was saying something like, "Gara Cafe". So if that kind of rings a bell, please chime in.

They are normally closed on Tuesday, but on May 22 and Wednesday May 23, they will be closed for a filming of some movie/show.

Another update on White Pines.

The other night I had the Crispy Chicken Burger at 220 baht.  I never tried it in the "good ol' days" at White Pines, so I can't make a direct comparison.  I can say that the burger I got was indeed good.  i'm not a fan of "busy" burgers of any sort that have unnecessary toppings, but it wasn't much of a hassle to pull off two onion rings.

The fried chicken breast was substantial and cooked well-  lightly breaded and crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. It was topped with a modest amount of cheese and underneath was the customary lettuce and slices of tomato.  The bun was nicely toasted. The French fries were also good.  The onion rings needed a few seconds longer in the fryer, but since I don't like onion rings much, that didn't matter to me.

I began to wish the chicken breast had been served on a plate with mashed potatoes, gravy and peas.  That would have been an excellent meal!

Bottom line:  White Pines continues to recover.  From what I've observed in the restaurant itself and read online, more of its old customers are giving it a second chance.

Sounds like they are slowly getting back, to normal service, as i am due in town in about 5 weeks gives a bit more time to recover to where they  were hopefully. I stay nearby and enjoyed eating there last year many times. Thanks for taking the time to review guys.

I dropped in the other night for a Chicken Parmigiana sandwich before hitting Sapphire. Food was great as usual.

What a shame to hear that this place went down hill. Came here a lot during my last trip and really enjoyed it
