Thanksgiving Dinner

Recommended Posts

And just a thought, but if these restaurants really wanted to do Thanksgiving right. They would put a recorded Lions or cowboys game on the telly. Thanksgiving and the NFL go together like peas and carrots.

Yes, there's a connection between U.S. football and Thanksgiving that dates back to the 1870s, just a few years after Pres. Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday.

Restaurants could also show the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, the world's largest parade.

Because of the time difference, both football and the parade would have to be from the previous year.

They have had a Thanksgiving dinner every year for a long time, but I can't see anything about it on social media this year.  It could be that they are always sold out through regular customers, so no need to advertise.

Since I'm not going to be there for Thanksgiving (will at Christmas),

I would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.

I'll use an ad from Tops to convey my Thanksgiving wishes to everyone.   :D    This shows just how far globalization has gone.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if these are Thailand-raised or imported birds for 450 baht/kg?   If imported, are they from N. America or another region?

Many thanks and best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving and Loy Kratong.

Here are the photos from last night's Thanksgiving dinner at Tigglebitties Tavern:

IMG_0009.jpg.9932f7bac9800ee819d092566d5292dc.jpg

It was a good dinner and I enjoyed it. It had a home-made American appearance and taste to it.   The turkey, a mixture of light and dark, was moist and tender.  The mashed potatoes,  gravy,  cranberry sauce and green bean casserole were fine.  The stuffing was the weakest part of the meal,  OK but not much taste or texture. The dinner cost 695 baht and  a bottle of San Miguel Light was 55 baht.

The apple pie was the best I can remember having in Thailand.

The pumpkin pie wasn't part of the Tigglebitties' dinner but was contributed by one of the diners.

After all of my searching and planning, I ended up instead going to a special Loy Krathong dinner at the InterContinental! 555

Dicey Reilly Thankgiving lunch buffet was excellent. Turkey moist and tasty. A variety of other meats (fish, beef, ham, etc), vegetables and pumpkin soup. A large table of desserts from pies, cakes and others; but pumpkin pie was so-so. 850 baht for early bookings and 995 regular.  Well worth it as some of my big eating friends got value. A nice AC environment with excellent service too.

My Lions shit the bed like always, since I was a kid.  Can't even beat a guy who hasn't taken a snap in 4 years... Oh well, that's what you get being a Lions fan.

At least we have hope for Mich vs Ohio St.

Us guys in Canada probably watch more football than you guys do... and Toronto will never get an NFL team.

And a Turkey dinner is most times, overrated.  Tastes great when done well, but seldom is done well.

  • 10 months later...

Since we are EXACTLY two months out (it's still the 28th here in USA), I thought I would bump this thread rather than start a new one.

As I have been every year since at least 2014, I will be back in Pattaya for Thanksgiving.

As posted above, because it overlapped with Loy Krathong last year, I opted for a FANTASTIC Thai buffet at the InterContinental (where I was staying) with my LLT and missed the various options that looked incredibly appealing.

I'll be in Phra Tamnak again, which opens up Jomtien as an option a little more than if I was staying in Central Pattaya.

I assume the usual cast of characters will be contenders this year -- Smokin Joes, Sportsman, Dicey Reilly's, Tigglebitties.  I did Thanksgiving at Robin Hood Tavern years ago, but 99% sure it was when a prior restaurant was in that space.  I think I'll get in too late to snag a ticket to Coops, as they tend to sell out early.

Any ads out yet that bear watching?  Thoughts on the better options?

Bumpty bump. I'll be in town for turkey day, who is putting on a good spread? Most google results are quite old. I'm not worried about price btw. Thanks.

The Blue Moose usually has a Thanksgiving buffet.  The sports bar is located on the 'Dark Side'.  The price is 595 baht - or at least that is what it cost the last few years. Includes dessert.  Must buy drinks.

Seems like Dicey is a safe bet. Not plodding to the other side of Sukhumvit for crock pot stuff, and not gong to Liberia.

I contacted Tigglebitties via Facebook, and they indicated that they should be doing something again this year.  I;m following them on FB for the details if/when announced.

I think we're still a week or two away from most announcements as to who will be doing something.

Dicey Reilly's has it posted to the Avani website, but not much info yet (except prices)

https://www.avanihotels.com/en/pattaya/offers/happy-thanksgiving-at-dicey-reillys

This November, friends, family and great food all combine to make our traditional Thanksgiving dinner buffet an event not to be missed. Prepared with exacting care by our creative chef at the Dicey Reilly’s, this spread is a mouthwatering display of turkey stuffing, cranberry sauce and of course pumpkin pie.

Make it a down-home Thanksgiving at Dicey Reilly’s, this Thursday 28 November 2019
Time: 12:00 noon – 10:00 pm
Price: THB 999 nett per person; kids under 5 eat free
Early booking, before 20 November, at only THB 850 net

I was leaning towards Dicey, but don't get to Pattaya until November 23, so the "early booking" appears out.  At 200 extra baht, I'll either do Sportsman (always happy with their carvery) or another option.

Now that we are in November, Tigglebitties has posted their Thanksgiving dinner offering on Facebook:
