Danny Ric is back in  F1. He will take de Vries' seat at the next race for Alpha Tauri. But which version of him will show up after his 2 year loss of form? It was only a week or two ago Helmut Marko said he wasn't the driver of old based on his performance in the sim. It didn't sound encouraging but now he is in.

All he has to do is beat Tsunoda, which isn't demanding, to put pressure on Perez for the Red Bull seat.

My prediction, if Hamilton is not leading the championship or close to the lead by this summer he will retire and be replaced by Nyck de Vries (Mercedes reserve driver).

Funny how things do not always go as predicted ...

“Sources say Ricciardo was impressive in today’s Pirelli tyre test with Red Bull, his first drive in 2023 machinery, and that his best lap would have been good enough for the front row of the grid in Sunday’s British Grand Prix,” Barretto stated.

This may have been a factor, but unknown which compounds he was using.

Yes, I read that.

I still think Perez, and their lack of options to replace him anytime soon, was the driving factor. The bad run has gone on for a long time. I doubt they would have moved so early otherwise.

When Danny Ric joined Mclaren he 'jokingly' said to Lando that he would end him (ie not just beat him but end his F1 career). Lando nearly did that to him instead. 😉

Perez crashes into the wall early in his first flying lap causing a red flag. I like how Sky said Danny Ric would have an even bigger grin than usual when he drove past.

The new practice and qualifying format (less tyres so less running) was widely said to have made the pecking order less clear than usual. In runs on low fuel Mercedes was fastest on the soft and Mclaren was fastest on the medium. Red Bull was fastest on the race runs. Not sure why what happened in qualifying and the race was such a massive surprise.

Bad news for Aston Martin. Hungary can't be described as a weaker circuit for them. They have been overtaken.

Naughty Lando. First of all he jumps the queue in qualifying. Toto later moans about lack of ethics. Then he smashes the winning trophy. lol.

I'm curious to see how F1 works out here in Las Vegas.

Tourists who cannot get in/out of their hotels on the Strip and locals are furious, while the casinos seem to be offering "ticket packages" at eye-watering prices.  The Strip has been FUCKED for months -- traffic is always bad, but borders on absurd now. They advised on the news to budget at least 4 times the amount of time you would in the past to get anywhere and Uber drivers are actively avoiding it, which makes it take even longer to get that Uber to the airport.  I'm hearing it takes 45 minutes just to GET an Uber, let alone GTFO there and to wherever you are going.

That said, it's all because it is Year 1.  Next year, the Strip/roads should be properly paved for it, so it goes off with far less of a hitch.

My plans were to be in Pattaya when it's here this year, but they have changed and it now looks like I will be here for all of the hoopla....not that I am going anywhere near it! 555

Sounds like a mess. They really need buy-in from the locals to make it work. Think it took them like 2 months to do Monaco last time they worked on it, but at least that was only half the track and the locals are generally more into it. Can't imagine the average person in Las Vegas is a fan if it's killing the strip.

This season felt closer than ever. There was competition throughout the grid except for first place. For some that made it 'bad for F1' and too boring. Strangely the preferred solution in the media seemed to be a return to more years of Mercedes domination. Hmm.

What happened to Perez? Although never one of the fastest he was at least dependable. His season was one of the worst on the grid. He has got it back to some extent but not fully. Still out of position in qualifying. He recovers during the race but still not as much as Max would. The attempted overtake on Lando lacked judgement and execution. Why do that when your car is clearly faster?

The question is how good is Danny Ric these days? He eventually lost form and confidence after going on a losing run to Lando. How is he going to keep it together if he goes against Max?

Piastri - I want to be clear that I was impressed by his race performances, and rate him. He has already proved his calibre is above the recent rookies - Tsunoda, Zhou etc,,  I expect he is the same level as Russell, Lando and Leclerc. The problem is he was billed as being better than all 3 of them. He was respectably close in times to Lando in qualifying but 17 - 5 was not a competition like Sainz vs Norris in his first season. With his billing I expected more. If there isn't a genuine qualifying battle next year I think we can take the "better than Leclerc" claim with a big pinch of salt.

Lando - another strong season where he kept his standard up. Piastri will surely close the gap on tyre management next year. It will be interesting to see how far apart they are. He is now getting criticism for being a choker or having a hero/zero approach to qualifying. A bit harsh. Leclerc has a reputation for probably pushing the hardest of anyone on the grid. But he does actually pull off a fair few of these hot laps. Lando has had a couple of opportunities for pole, gone extra hard, and blown it fairly big. Something to improve at.

Will the Andreti/Cadilac team get in?  If not will it affect the F1 fan base in America?

If the F1 reams could block it I expect they would. I don't believe they can. Liberty still needs to handle them carefully though and try to get them on side.

Andretti have built a new factory in UK.

Reckon they will buy Haas at some stage. Only way in it seems as the midfield teams won't vote for less prize money

Saw a story that Alpine might be for sale also and they are Renault engines which I think Andretti was going to use until a Cadillac unit was available in 2028 supposedly. But buying a team doesn't really fit with Andretti's shiny new facility at Silverstone which will support F2 and F3 entries as well as any future F1 team. He going to continue trying to barge his way into an F1 entry despite the opposition.
