Ashes - let the battle commence

Amazing start by the player with no name - let's add some early pressure and see where it goes.

If this plan fails then the weather may save us as there is a chance of rain today and tomorrow.

And may his name never be uttered again...

A very slow low score  yesterday... I reckon England will hold them to a draw on the last day..

The Gabba field has recently been stripped and new grass grown from seed since October.. Curators have done a great job, but you can notice the wear on the field from the players because of the new grass.  Coupled with the afternoon storms we have been getting this makes for a slow scoring game in the bowlers favour - hence the low scores.  This is going to be a close contest IMO.

Every day thunderstorms are coming through, but they don't come until late afternoon about 4pm onwards.

Sydney and Melbourne will be a different story though.

It's a funny old game, cricket. This one is hardly "in the bag" for us.

(Yes, there's nothing wrong with the pitch. Chappelli said you often see this at the beginning of an Australian series - in the first test (always Brisbane) the bowlers are on the ascendant and you get low totals, until the batsmen get used to the conditions, then things take off - batting wise - in subsequent tests. He's probably right. He basically is the best cricket mind in the world).

Agree....very astute cricketing brain.....love to listen to him and read his articles.

I come to Thailand for the beaches.....How about you ???

Aussies have the number on Trott & Root currently, can't see Cook, Petersen & Bell holding on for two days unless there's major disruption to the play weather wise. Test cricket at its attrition best.

80% chance of rain and thunder storms this afternoon in Brisbane - we could be in luck if KP and Cook can build a good partnership for the first few hours

Mick Pattaya - you have a valid point there. Trott averages 26 against Australia in 2013 - several of the commentators on Sky Sports have mentioned that he has become a walking wicket and should be dropped unless he can improve his technique.

If any BM's do not have access to Sky Sports then Ashes highlights are available on Pick TV - this channel is on freeview, cable and Sky.

Well it's 8am and its bright and sunny on the Gold Coast just a hour south of the Gabba. We had 2 thunderstorms last night that probably hit Brisbane as well. Great conditions for bowling this morning in the humid conditions. If Cook and Peiterson last the first sessions I'll take my hat off to them. Wish I good watch it, but have to work today.

Exactly. It's all part of the fun of the greatest rivalry in world sport to needle the old enemy and celebrate being on top and the triumphalism and bravado absolutely occurs in both directions.

Yes Jocky , rain was the only hope , but when you have been outplayed as comprehensivly as England have , help was not deserved .

Didn't see this non performance coming , England have been slow starters in test series ,but this truly has been abysmal , excluding the first 3 hours of the test .

You don't become a bad team overnight , but Australia have out played England in every department , Nathan Lyon way ahead of Graeme Swann for instance . and they will go to Adelaide buzzing .

There was rain . A big hail storm but it was short. They were off for an hour or more. Now the rain has come back.

1-0 well done to Australia. Bit one sided

Hope England batsmen can turn up in next match, but Aussi's will be full of confidence now.

Manager and Cooke some big decisions to make over the next week
