If you missed it last night, watch a replay on Showtime or find it online -- Omar Figueroa vs Nihito Arakawa.

Arakawa must have balls the size of boulders because he kept coming forward and pressing a fight in which he was way behind.  Real life Rocky-stuff, as human beings should not be able to continue to stand and fight after absorbing the type of punishment he took from Figueroa, who remains undefeated and could be a star in the next few years.

I've been in lots of rings, but don't recall ever seeing one with as much blood splattered on the canvas and smeared on all of the ropes.  It looked like they had filmed a slasher film in it -- blood everywhere!

Oh yeah, that was a great fight on what turned out to be a nice triple-header of boxing. Arakawa was more out-powered than out-boxed imo. Looking forward to the next 'Knockout Kings' card. I also liked the Estrada-Melindo fight from Macau yesterday. At only 23, Estrada has a great future ahead of him.

You know when I was watching Figueroa - Arakawa the other night, it reminded me of the Akira Yaegashi - Pornsawan Porpramook fight a couple of years ago. Two guys just whaling away on each other with no thought of defense. That one was a strawweight fight that took place in Tokyo and it became an overnight youtube sensation. Anyone else remember this one?

FCK ME now thats how NOT to fight !

Fights like these is what makes boxing potentially the most spectacular sport in the world.  You know, they need to get rid of, or, at least revise, the effective aggression criteria when it comes to judging fights.  In a competitive fight, if one fighter is taking all the risks to create a fight, he should always be given the benefit of the doubt vs. a guy who backpedals a lot.  Nothing wrong with REAL counterpunchers (see the incomparable James Toney).  But, fighters that perform like they're on a track meet should be discouraged (see Bradley vs Pacman).  I believe this what'll make boxing great again:  real champions looking to close the show like real champions via KO.

Sorry for the rant.  I had a rough day.  To make it up to you guys, I've embedded a link regarding my earlier post.

I'm surprised the Israel Vazquez - Rafael Marquez fights haven't got a mention here, yet. The first three sure were good, especially the third.

From what I've read on some boxing sites, there was another barn-burner in BKK last week with Koki Eto vs Kompayak Porpramook with some posters claiming it topped Figueroa-Arakawa. I haven't found a link to a video yet, but will post one if I find it. Also, it was noted that Thai Channel 7 cut away from the fight for a round near the end to show the King and Queen on their way to Hua Hun, much to the chagrin of fans streaming the fight online.

I may be wrong here didn't Sugar Ray Leonard knock out Thomas hit man Hearns in the 15th round in one fight in the 80s when all seemed lost?

I seem to recall his trainer screaming "you're the champ" at him when he looked dead on his feet but he still managed to knock him out in the last round........or am I getting mixed up with Rocky films............lol

So, so happy to see Maidana beat Broner tonight. Great fight and overall another good card on Showtime. Worth watching the replay, if you missed it.

Agreed!  I think 99% of the people who watched it were hoping to see him get thumped.

I also thought he reacted like a spoiled child when he left the ring before they could interview him.

not there yet but one to watch for the future as a Heavy Weight is Anthony Joshua, he has the fastest hands I have ever seen for a HW, he also has a real cold killer instinct, yes he is only 3 fights but has massive potential, & yes I know I'm slightly off topic !

OK, it certainly wasn't a great fight over here is Asia last night, but with this being our general boxing thread, I thought I'd give it a bump with some Thai-related news.

Thailand's Amnat Ruenroeng successfully defended his IBF World Flyweight Championship against Japan's Kazuto Ioka in Japan. Although the Thai is the champ, he was a big underdog as Ioka is much-hyped in the boxing media, even ESPN's boxing write Dan Rafael had an article on him recently. Ioka was seeking a title in his third division. Good win for the Thai champ, especially on the road in Japan. Thailand's only other world champion, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai fights in Mexico City at the end of the month. That fight against Mexico's Carlos Cuadras will almost certainly be much more exciting than last night's.

Here's a link to last night's fight if anyone is interested. Fight took place about 7PM Thai time and I had to go to 4 different bars here in BKK before I finally found one that could get the right TV channel for me. A little frustrating as a fight fan that was so tricky to find a live world championship fight in the champ's own country because the bars all seem to only be able to show replays of the previous weekend's soccer matches.

A couple of you nailed it.  Benn vs McClellan,,,, tainted only by it's tragic ending and Benn's post-fight comments which make him the biggest dick in boxing history
