The Toronto Blue Jays are in canada, Im sure most people who dont live in north amreica look at it as the same country.

So....29 teams from USA, and 1 team from Canada constitutes a World Series?

There are a couple of Welsh football teams that play in the English Leagues, but that doesnt constitute a two country league challenge, let alone a World Series.

Thanks for compounding my arguement though. :Bravo1:

Oh i have a basic understanding of Gridiron alright, because its a basic game. I watched it alot back in the 70s on the occasion in came on TV, and tried to get back ino it when it became regular on UK TV, but i had grown up then and moved on from the appeal of some big guys in crash helmets smashing into each other. Each to their own i guess.

You saying you have a basic understanding of football because you watched a few games on TV is like someone watching a couple of porn videos and then claiming to be a gynecologist.

As i've also been playing FOOTBALL for 40-odd years, then i think i understand it abit now.

And as for Gridiron....seeing as they stop every 20 secs or so....and the commies then natter about the play....then its not really that hard to follow is it?

Its just so tedious after awhile. It reminds me of a game back at school.... British Bulldog. No ball required.

BTW....shouldnt this be in the sports section?

NFL - isn't that where the beer commercials are more entertaining than the game?

I got that from "The Simpsons" so it must be true.

Also where there are about 120 players on each team, so no-one ever gets tired?

The games show around 3:00am in UK, as punishment for Insomnia.

Luv it really!

If you really want to see your home NFL team play live I suggest you buy a tablet and go on babyxdeja dotcom.

this site streams every game live even though it is pixelated.

The expensive way to watch the nfl would be to have a slingbox back in america with the direct ticket.

Thanks for the link. I tried the NFL network just now and have a very clear picture. I'm here in the San Francisco area and my favorite teams games are hardly ever shown here. I'll give it a try Sunday.

Haha although I do agree with you on your soccer analysis I would not post something like this on here. :)

You either love soccer or find it the most boring sport in the world.

Thailand along with many other European countries love it so it will be hard to escape when you are over there.

A very small price to pay for being in paradise.....

I love the NFL, and I love futbol (football, soccer). Very exasperating sometime for me, but understandable, that most Americans dismiss 'world' football. If you played 'soccer' in America growing up, participation generally ends before becoming a teenager, so the nuances of the game are completely lost. I was fortunate enough to have moved to Barcelona when I was 13 (left at 17) so futbol became not only the sport of choice at school but also on TV. Became an avid Barca fan and attended many games at Camp Nou. Loving seeing Barca dominate the last few years!

There is room to like both but the real subtleties of American football are lost on the casual observer just as the strategy, skill, and execution of world football is lost on most Americans (hispanic population excluded). Unless you have Insomnia or live in Patts though, I could care less about the NFL games while visiting Patts...too busy munching on some fine Thai pussy.

I was able to watch The Packer Game 2 weeks ago, at the Chik-n-Coop Bar. It was live so it started at Midnight. Great Chili and some great NFL Fans at the bar also.

It's called FOOTBALL not soccer, we invented the game and the language, if you do not like it get your own.

I never bashed american sports, if the op wants to rubbish the most popular game in the world, then don't be surprised when non americans react, to wwf type games with big butch men in lycra and makeup and armour playing a sport that has 15 seconds of action, then a rest, to start again?

Why do all the soccer players fall down and cry like girls and yet their supporters want to wage war on each other in the stands.

We have a piss take award called the rivaldo's here. Its for soft men that cry like bitches.

NFL is ok except it has a million stoppages that slow it down.

Aussie footballers are tough guys that won,t stop unless they break something badly. Non stop hard hitting action.

The rest of the world could learn something.

Guess what. You're wrong.

From Wikipedia article on Soccer:

The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863 and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as anOxford "-er" abbreviation of the word "association".[6]

So to be clear, in the UK "football" is a derivative game, an offshoot of the established game of rugby football - not the other way around. It was named by the Brits themselves as Soccer, no-one else. (The boldface is mine.)

Anyway, probably American football bears a closer relationship with Rugby than Soccer.

By those same rules of history it's not fair to call it "gridiron" football. Also from the Wikipedia entry on Gridiron:

According to the early rules of American football, fields were marked in a checkerboard pattern of grids. The ball would be snapped in the grid in which it was downed on the previous play. This system was abandoned in favor of the system of yard lines and hash marks now used and brought the gridiron design more in line with Canadian football.

As described in Outdoor Sports and Games (1911):

A football field is 330 feet long by 160 feet wide. At each end are goal posts set 18 feet 6 inches apart, with a crossbar 10 feet above the ground. The field is marked off in chalk lines similar to a tennis court, these lines being 5 yards apart. The centre of the field where the play starts is 55 yards from either end. It is usually customary to run lines parallel to the sides of the field, also 5 yards apart, but as a field is but 160 feet wide the first and last of these lines are but 5 feet from the side lines instead of 5 yards. The lines on a football field make a checkerboard effect and have given to the field the name of "gridiron."

An example of a field that was marked in the original gridiron pattern was the old Archbold Stadium at Syracuse University, which has since been torn down.

While American Football and Association Football both started with different names, only American Football's game has evolved sufficiently to not resemble it's early start. It's an offshoot of gridiron the same way Association Football/Soccer is an offshoot of Rugby. As the popularity of Association Football rose, it eclipsed Rugby and the term "Football" now belongs to it. "Soccer" as a term has evolved out to be used only by the colonies, and only as a distinction to the more-popular American Football.

That's history. Them's the facts...can we all please now stop with the ignorant, petty bickering and just show each other nice pictures of Thai tits?

Hi mate,

I live in Barcelona and, of course (!), I'm a Barça supporter. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one here!

Did you enjoy your time in Catalonia? Please send me a PM in case you're in Patts next month.

I been walking around for hours, checked every bar in Pattaya and no NFL. Soccer has got to be the most boring sport in history...

Your thoughts...

Eddie's Rich Man Poor Man in Jomtien has NFL's game day and runs all of the games live and replays the rest of the time at customer's request. The is no longer an ASN, as True Visions dropped it Oct 1. One can only stand so much soccer. Sorry but a futbol game on every channel, punchuated by badmitten and bowling, is very poor to the rest of us. Thank god for the Golf channel.
