Sorry to hear that, 400 is not a small amount. Hope you get something back or at least find the culprit.

Update: the police do not seem to care about theft. On demand what happened now because the policeman said we must all 3 to the police said he only need time and they report to me. A pity but was not expected otherwise

People please avoid all the hotel Galaxy Suite in Pattaya on the Soi Diamond.

I was stolen there yesterday 400 € from the locked room safe.

The manager or the owner of the hotel does not seem to be interested, since he always came back to later to come here to clarify.

So I have today reported to the police.

More details about theft:

I have stayed at the Hotel Galaxy Suites in Pattaya since 19.01. To date very satisfied.

On 24.01 I went 2 clock pm from the hotel to drink a coffee and change money. Before I left I counted all my money which was in the safe after and wrote it as always on a note which is still in it.

Whenever I close the safe I put a business card so the Safedoor from inside that I see if someone was in it when I open it again. I was about 1 hour coffee and I'm back in my room. Since I wanted to put the changed money into the safe, I opened him carefully to see if the business card is still placed on the door. This was no longer at the door but lay on my money in safe. I counted the money and 400 euros were missing. Thus not everything was taken, but only a partial amount.

I immediately went to the front desk and told the lady the money was missing. She informed the manager and said he will come in 2 hours to clarify the matter and she can not imagine.

After three hours, I asked where the manager stayed and told me that he was not coming until 8pm and was supposed to wait for him and not go to the police. 8 pm I asked again and of course he was not there and should come tomorrow.

Today I then asked again and she said he comes at 4 pm he does not create it sooner. End of the story, of course, he was not there at 4 o'clock, of course, and I went to the police and filed a complaint.

I find it a shame from the management so deal with its customers. There are only two ladies in question: either the woman at the reception where also the general key for the room safe or the cleaning woman. I also wanted to see the video recording of the cameras but allegedly the camera has been broken for 1 week.

So people please avoid all this hotel so it does not happen to anyone else.

If I were you, I'd leave a negative review on all the booking web sites where they are listed (booking.com, Agoda, trip advisor, etc...)

If the hotel gives him a refund they are in effect admitting liability , if it was proven without doubt that it was a hotel staff member then that's a different thing , they would be under an obligation to refund thier guest .

With these allegations there is always the possibility that the hotel guest is trying on some sort of insurance scam, not saying that this is the case with the OP , but unfortunately he has nothing without certain proof that it was the hotel staff.

Totally agree if the hotel's CCTV was working (but it wasn't)

I have a small bedside travel alarm clock.

you can buy almost anywhere now.

it is battery operated and alarm /clock works great ...

BUT

it also has a HD camera that is motion activated and with sound.

i have caught 2 maids going into my room safe...on camera.

and many many many going thru my shit in suitcases etc,

there is no/zero arguement when you have it recorded and on your laptop.....

buy one !!!

great insurance and entertaining.

Well best of luck with that

Confusing home country 'consumer rights' with the laissez faire attitude in Thailand to any such matters, and the predilection in Pattaya specifically to completely ignore such grievances as any day soon a big fast airliner takes it away for them.

I understand he's not going to get it. I'm just saying he SHOULD. If the hotel was smart they would take the small loss on his week long stay to protect their image.

They'd be earning more long term doing that. Instead they'll lose out from everyone who reads this thread and ops travel site reviews. I know I've personally not stayed at places on Walking Street because of a review with theft.

Precisely that and even if the CCTV had shown someone entering a room other than the customer (including visitor/s perhaps) hotel staff are entitled to do that and it would not show what any of them did in the room.

I understand that the OP writes everything down, but so did the Indian guy who started a similar thread then realised his mistake and was big enough to own up to it.

Some of us do make such mistakes in partyland (I have) and maybe the OP didn't, but his jottings aren't proof.

...................

Regarding the owner whom the OP keeps referring to as a manager, he isn't and can't be.

I have tried several times (in PMs) to explain to the OP why a farang business owner in Thailand cannot 'manage' unless he has a Work Permit, but it seems he doesn't want to know that.

At Galaxy Suites there is a Thai lady manager named Jane and a Thai lady responsible overall named Meow and both have co-operated fully with the Police.

With no evidence there's probably nothing the Police can do except provide the OP with a Report (for a Fee) which hopefully the OP's insurance company will accept.....if he has insurance.

As with any hotel which provides room safes, they can care about customers' experiences but they cannot accept responsibility for losses....certainly not unproven ones.

Room safes are what we all apparently want included, but most of us surely know how safe they really are....I use them for my Passport, Credit Cards, camera etc and perhaps some cash, but 2050 Euros probably not.

IME the only responsibility a hotel might take is if you deposit valuables in their own safe and according to their own procedures eg. with receipted proof of what was deposited.

I don't know whether GS offers such a service, but probably not.

It's in Police hands and I really don't see what more can be done.

I guess leaving your review on trip advisor would be useful. Include the help management offered or lack of. I missed the bit about CCTV, no recording? I understand thats an offence

If that is a offence then they should pay up but we all know it won't happen. To the op I suggest find out for certainly if it is a offence then get the manger to put it in writing. Report it on trip adviser including about the CTTV not working. And maybe try to claim it of your Travel insurance if you have any.

I use this. It is not foolproof (someone can easily slice the ribbon). I prefer this over putting a pacsafe inside the safe because this is a visual deterrent letting the opportunistic thief know that you will find out if the safe has been opened.

The reason I think he should get a room refund is the CCTV not working to make it clear. Not because op money wasn't there. If they refunded someone for saying they lost money that would open up the hotel to being scammed.

As the place is set up anyone could of been in his room. The front desk could of waltzed in for all we know. The desk for sure know it doesn't work and I guarantee don't warn u on check in.It should be on the hotel for that reason. Being a feature of the hotel that you think is working when u check in and see cameras.

I would have someone at check in said that the camera is not going I would certainly not use the room safe. Directly 2 meters next to my room door is the surveillance camera and gives a a sure feeling. As I said I find the trade of the hotel very unfortunate and have never experienced such a disinterest.

That looks good Siamsecure and a good price if you are staying for month. but if only a couple of weeks like I stay its still cheap

This is specifically designed to put thieves off, particularly sneak thieves such as staff who can either override the safe code, have access to the master key or seemingly walk into rooms with a potato.

Those ones don't steal everything, just usually part of the cash (maybe some take credit card details ?) and leave no evidence. To get past this device they would have to slash the ribbon to remove it.

If some is determined enough they can get into almost any room safe, I read recently that someone actually stole the safe but this is a great deterrent

Thanks for posting the link :GoldenSmile1:

Insurance company will want to see prove of theft so the OP will get zilch.

What more can be done?  Shame and name them.

I have no doubt believing the OP.

CCTV not working came in very handy for the staff.

Only mistake the OP made was that he should have called the police immediately after it was clear there wasn't a manager around.

can someone tell me how pacsafe is used with hotel safe? or is it not meant for that?

thanks

They put it inside the safe.. It is meant to deter skimming. Nothing to stop someone from stealing the whole bag!

Nothing will stop a determined thief! You can only deter the opportunistic thiefs.

Ah okay. So it's basically all or nothing for the thief. I fail to see the value, unless someone corrects me.
