I recently purchased the Himedia H8 Plus Box (http://www.himediatech.com/h8Plus.html),fully loaded with the latest software and tailored to my viewing needs (short-cuts established within the apps/add-ons for USA sports, tv shows, channels, etc), all for a one-time payment of 5800 baht….no monthly or annual fees.  I wish I would’ve known about Footymadstreams (FMS) sooner.  I cancelled my True Visions satellite tv service, and the savings will pay for my new expat box in 2+ months.  It’s only been a couple of days, but so far, I’m very impressed with the capabilities of the box.

The box was delivered and installed, to include a personal 2+ hour demo/tutorial, within 48 hours of ordering. Bob, who did my install/demo, patiently answered all of questions…he would’ve stayed longer had I asked him.  Installation (free to customers in Central Pattaya, otherwise 500 baht) took less than 5 minutes…it’s literally plug-and-play.  While I could have easily done the install myself, it was well worth the 500 baht for the demo/personalized instruction.  FMS will provide a demo of the box at Tukcom if requested.

The box operates via the Internet using wifi or ethernet and a minimum download speed of 10 mbps is required.

There are apps that cover almost everything you would want to watch (USA, UK, Australian, Canadian Russian, Chinese, Indian, French, Pakistani, Holland, Portuguese, Middle Eastern, German, Italian, Turkish, Scandinavian, Thai, and even more channels), including live events and on-demand for sports, movies and tv series/shows. There are 1000s of movies, old and new, including 2016 and 2017 releases.  It can be overwhelming at first as you try to navigate through all the apps and add-ons; I was pleasantly surprised at the multitude of viewing options.  Fortunately, many of them allow you to create a favorites list. I also found that using a wireless mouse is better/easier than the remote that came with the box.

The boxes are updated automatically and FMS can also install new apps or channels from his own computer going into your box.  The box came with a one-year warranty and 14-day money back guarantee

There’s an on-line forum for members to keep up-to-date with new features and guides to channels.  There’s also FREE, 24/7after-service via skype, Facebook, web forum, phone, email and a built-in remote feature on the box. The after-service support was my biggest concern, but after talking to other expat box customers and my own personal experience, I no longer have any reservations about being able to maintain my Himedia box well into the future.  On my first day, I did not close-out of one of the apps (Kodi) properly, and in doing so, messed-up the app.  I called Bob and he quickly walked me through the necessary steps to correct the problem.  Additionally, he showed me how best to keep my Himedia box running smoothly by clearing out the caches.

FMS can't guarantee that every single channel from the list of 1000s will be on-line 24 hours a day.  However, he can guarantee he will keep all members informed on where to watch the best and most reliable streams that can be found on the internet. I’ve experienced some buffering when viewing live events/shows, but all you have to do is try a different channel and you should be able to find a “clean” picture.  This is the reason why there are so many apps/add-ons…if one channel is not working well, there’s always another place to watch the channel/tv program/film/sporting event.  You may also find that some channels are blocked and can only be viewed in the country they originate from.  That’s why HOLA has been installed on the box.  A few of the newer movies are not of the highest quality, but when a better version is available, it will be updated automatically.

My biggest challenge is trying to find out what is available on the 1000s of available channels.  Specifically, there’s no central “tv guide” to tell you exactly what’s showing on a certain/day time on a specific channel (such a consolidated guide may exist, but I have not found it yet).  Some of the apps/add-ons do provide this type of info (e.g., USTVNOW, FTV Guide, etc.).  Bob was able to provide me with a helpful website that contains schedules, days/times and channels for sporting events.  As an alternative, one could always go to a specific channel’s/show’s web page (e.g., ESPN, History Channel, etc.) and they typically have a viewing guide posted.

Bottom line:  I have no regrets about ditching my True Visions service and going with the Himedia box.  I would highly recommend to anyone considering alternatives to True Visions, Sophon, etc., that they purchase an expat tv box from FMS.  Did I also mention that the box will work worldwide and FMS will continue to provide FREE service/support, regardless of where you are located.

BBC iPlayer has never worked for me on my expatTV Minix box. Although it does show comprehensive lists of all available programs to watch, when selecting something it always says 'unavailable'.

I'm located in Pattaya. Does this require a separate VPN to work or should BBC iPlayer be region-free?
