Eggs-ZACTLY the point !!! :ThumbUp6:

All i know is that there's not an epidemic of people WINNING lottery. However, there appears to be some consensus amongst various world health organization on an AIDS epidemic and possible pandemic. Now if you believe these government organization, they'll tell you that AIDS kills more then all wars (WW1, WW2, Vietnam war, Korean war, various civil wars around the world), and conflicts combined.

A recent statistics I saw puts 1.8 million die of AIDS in 2009 and another 1.8 million die of AIDS in 2010 (much more living with. About 34 million).

So I am just having a hard time reconciling the two. I'll bet number of people winning lottery worldwide isn't in the millions. :-)

The lady doctor at Bangkok/Pattaya hospital who specialises in HIV and AIds treatment told me the chance of getting HIV from normal heterosexual intercourse with a woman was about 1 in 1600.

Relax stop panicking you will be fine.

Panicking for nothing I reckon and on top of it dosing yourself up with unecessary medications.

The only thing you can do really is wait and get a HIV test three months down the track which will come back negative I can assure you.

I started this thread as I wanted advice and you have taken time to give your advice; which I am grateful, but how would you feel if in 3 months time your Doctor said 'I've got some bad news for you Mr. Machine, you have got HIV. It's a pity that you didn't get some PEP treatment straight after the incident as it may have prevented it'?

The second thing about getting tested immediately was to ensure that I didn't already have something which I could have passed to the girl.

It's reassuring that the 'odds' are stacked in my favour, trouble is the 'game' is my life!

Hopefully this whole thread will be of some use to others that might find themselves in the same situation and they will see that there are a whole range of responses available ranging from 'do nothing', get HIV tested in 3 months time, get some anti-STi meds immediately or get the full range of tests and anti-HIV and STi meds immediately (oh, or dettol and a wirebrush).

2 cents worth? I'd say it's "worthless".

your negative tests basically confirm you didnt go to pattaya with anything. you will need a test in 3 months to confirm you havent picked up anything like hiv as thats the typical window period. if yove picked up syphillis or gonos etc they also have a window period of at least 2 weeks for testing purposes but if you have either of them two ull soon know about it as ull have discharge and feel like your pissing razor blades. i split two condoms on my first trip in easter the 3 months of worrying was horrendous and plenty time to do a hell of a lot of research. next time i wouldnt be so scared. hiv very difficult to pick up and the others ull know bout in few days. all my tests 2 days after in patts and 3 monrhs after back home were negative/non reactive. please dont panic and worry.

1) The chance of transmission when there is no other STD involved is about 1:1000 unprotected heterosexual exposures with an infected female not on treatment.

2) If she is on HIV treatment, her remaining amount of viruses in her body fluids is so low, that in medical terms she is considered as not infectious. 500 - 1000 virus per ml blood are needed to transfer and establish infection in your body. A person under successful treatment has less than 50 virus. chance for transmission is 1:43,000 unprotected sexual exposures. Your flight to Thailand was at higher risk.

3) Truvada is approved as post-exposure prohylaxis (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). It is unaffordable expensis in western countries but in Thailand the price for 1 month is 3000 THB in private hospitals, the also FDA-approved generic from Mylan is 1800 THB. Most HIV drug manufacturers do not apply for patent protection in developing countries. It is available at every private hospital in Pattaya. Simply ask the doctor for HIV - PrEP (PEP).

4) There is currently no known infection case worldwide with PEP ! PEP must be started as early as possible, at least 72 hours after exposure, followed by 1x pill daily at the same time each day for 30 days. Your healthcare provider will instruct you.

5) PrEP is not approved as party drug. It must be taken following strict rules in addition to condom use. Studies resulted in 99% statistical protection, when taken once daily, compared to condom use at only 80%. 1x pill every 48 hours provided still 90% protection (google for PARTNERS PREP study).

I don't doubt scientific data and statistics. That said, "low" and "no" chance aren't the same. No one ever think it will happen to them until it happens to them. And when it does, they are shock and surprise.

If the chance of HIV transmission is so low, why is there an epidemic? These two "facts" seems contradictory

Like lottery, however low the chance of winning, SOMEONE always wins it.

How about this ? Worldwide approximately 4 TIMES as many people die every year of cancer as of AIDS. And people still smoke. People still eat so much crap (myself included BTW :D ).

How about this ? The 2 largest groups BY FAR who have HIV are homosexuals and I.V. drug users and NOT heterosexuals passing it on,,,,,,,

You probably have as much chance of an airplane (or a gargoyle) falling on your head and killing you but you don't live in a Cave, do you ?

How about just crossing the street ? But you do that as well without so much as thinking about NOT doing it, don't you ?

Now, for the record, I am NOT advocating bareback anything. Everybody should be as safe as THEY want to be. All I'm trying for is some (real) perspective, not hyperbole. :High5:

Yes, and then eventually someone always win. I have not heard of a lottery that is not won at some point.

Point is, however SLIM the chance is, someone eventually "gets it"

Simple enough: If you had the courage of your conviction, then go bareback 100% of the time with FL in Thailand. That should sum it up. That is if you fly, cross street, and eat "crap" as you said. If not, then despite what you say you don't have the courage of your conviction. And why should anyone else believe you when you don't believe yourself?

You make no sense as usual.

The fact that I "know" the odds and they're definitely "in my favor" doesn't mean I care to take "unnecessary" chances I don't want to take.

Believe me; don't believe me. I couldn't care less,,,,,, :SoWhat1:

I don't believe that you are convince of your own facts enough to "take a chance" on it.

I believe you would take a chance on flying.

I believe you would take a chance on crossing street.

but I don't believe you would take a chance on barebacking FL all the time even if that's "less dangerous" then flying per your odds.

You simply do not have the courage.

You just keep flogging a dead horse give it up.

Stop all the hysteria and look at the facts.

Anyway wrapping up is not just about HIV. There are other nasties you can catch as well. HEP B especially is a very nasty one to get and can cause a whole lot of grief and it is much easier to catch than HIV.

No, that would mean crossing the street 10 times eyes closed.

I know some people die crossing the road, it doesn't stop me crossing the road, but I don't do it unstop 24/7 until the crash.

I know some people get aids, it doesn't stop me fucking girls. When a condom breaks, or it happens that I "accidently" barebacked, I just dont get an hysteric paranoïa as we've seen on this thread.

What's it to you how OP choose to react or deal with it? No one is telling you that YOU should bag up or that if you do "accidentally" barebacked that you should go get it check or get treated. I mean, seriously, when it happens, I hope you don't go check and catch AIDS and die from it. :-) But that remains my personal hysteria and not yours nor should it be yours. Don't go stealing my hysteria now. ;-)

OP seeks advise, weight it against his personal comfort, and act accordingly. :-) And you of course are entitle and welcome to act according to your own comfort level.

The OP was entirely right to act according to his fears. Now as you stated, he was seeking advices. So I gave mine : all this was completly over reacted imo. But of course, if he cannot control his over reaction and has to go all through this medication to calm down, then it's ok...
