Hi

Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS) to Bangkok (BKK) on KLM

I'm thinking of taking this route on the next trip to LOS.

Has anyone done this trip recently? what was it like?

(Amsterdam airport - Entertainment on board - Service on board)

Schipol is a pleasant place to spend a few hours (many visits to Amsterdam!). I'm flying KLM to BKK in June for the 1st time. Good flight times and a decent price I think at £487.

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Guys, I flew AMS-BKK direct with KLM on one of my trips...

Not too bad considering it's KLM, had seatback private entertainment screen and the service was OK. Book in advance though and you'll get a good price, don't wait too long as prices are only increasing if you book closer to your departure dates..

Never travelled with EVA or China Airlines but I have heard that especially China Airlines is quite good or at least better than KLM.

Both of them usually cheaper than KLM anyways..

Hope this helps... If you want anymore details just ask..

KLM for me was the worst ever airline used. Everything about it was cheap tacky with a couldn't care less attitude. There was no onboard entertainment when I flew although I understand there is now but crap.

When I say worst ever airline to Bangkok I can include Aeroflot, Tarom, Balkan, Lot, Uzbekistan as being all better and that's saying something

KLM is an excellent airline by european standards with IFE and decent food plus drinks distributed freely.

Flew the AMS-HKG leg in december so my experience is fairly fresh.

You have to virtually hijack the plane to get a drink out of them and everytime I arrive in Schipol it's usually a 4 hour wait for the BKK flight - the frequent flyer program sucks big style and they are party to politically correct madness now as the trolley dollies used to be gorgeous, now you have a fair amount of old, fat and ugly cabin crew who nearly knock you out of your seat (if you have an aisle seat) when they are stomping past you like a hippopotamus.

Apart from that its alright lol!!!

Been a while since you last used them ?

Last time i flew KLM (June 2011) it was very good , private entertainment system with good movies , friendly staff , much better than China Airlines .

Before 2011 it was crap as the plane was 50% cargo had small seats and didn't have entertainment .

Last 2 times i used Aeroflot and was positively surprised . New Airbus with private entertainment system , ok food , friendly staff , short stopover

in Moskou and a very good price (around 600 Euro) .

I flew by KLM two times. Schiphol airport is one of the best airport which I saw. This airport is very pleasant for travellers. KLM Crew were older ladies and man stewards, but service was quite o.k.

I have flown KLM twice since last Songkran(2011) both times MTL-AMS AMS-BKK and same in reverse for return to Montreal and never had a bad experience...I found the service very friendly and helpfull(unlike my Air France flights)my last flight back I drank so many Heini's during that 13 hour flight the attendents told me if they werent around and I needed another I could just go to the back and grab one myself, an option that i exercised several times. The onboard entertainmet is adequate in my books with several movies and tv shows to choose from, the food is nothing special but not the worst either. I like Schiphol, its easy to understand and to get around but the best thing is that its a very cheap and short train ride to Centraal Station(2.70 euro and they run every 15 mins or so) where the Red Light District and coffee shops are so its great if you have a several hour layover to smoke one and do some window shopping Every Airline is going to have its fans and haters so I guess you'll have to try them yourself..

When i fly to Asia i only use Singapore , Cathey or Emirate , i never fly with KLM , very arrogant flight crew with a major turn off attitude....

China Airline is cheap because there service is very bad , i flown it once with a cabin crew that did not speak no english at all...

Schiphol airport it`s self is oke , with good service.

Its fine but it doesnt compare with qatar / emirates / oman. Schiphol is huge, crowded and spralling just like CDG, and its a busy route the plane is always full. KLM/Air France have been very poor for me with delayed flights, has often been about 1 hr late... really annoying if you booked a bell bus or taxi. I flew oman last trip .. it was really good and muscat airport was so laid back .. i could have chilled out there a bit longer .. free wifi, nice food, no crowds, comfy seets! KLM/Air France planes look a bit scruffy inside too. One trip they had to take one out of service and replace it with an old spare 747 .. and it looked really fk**in old! .. that trip was 3hrs late!

You should try BA, they make KLM look excelent.

Schipol airport is very easy to find everything you need.

I have not heard to many BMs flying with KLM to Bangkok.

However, I do hear that BA is pretty decent. You also can not count out Emirates.

I find it interesting to read that many foreigners love Schiphol Airport since it is one of the airports that I hate with a passion... Badly organized and a logistical nightmare IMHO...

KLM is half decent if you ask me and they have convenient flight times, although I always find them expensive, but probably that's because I never book flights far ahead of time. Next trip I'm flying Emirates but only because I want to fly on the the A380.

I've only flown to BKK twice so far, once with Etihad last september , then in march with KLM. Both were great flights and I wouldn't hesitate to re book with either of them..

Etihad had the better looking air hostesses of course, but the KLM crew were very efficient, and the alcohol flowed a lot more freely on the KLM flight, just visit the galley and it was no problem to get a vodka and coke.

The entertainment systems were identical , as far as i could see, both video on demand , loads of films and music.

Oh yeah and you can buy porno DVDs at Schipol airport, try that in abu dhabi lol.

Thought it was compulsory to buy a porno vid at Schipol! Looking forward to my KLM flight in June.

Interesting comparison there Freedy. A lot of people (including myself) use Etihad / Emirates / Qatar as the benchmark to judge airlines against. I'm guessing that KLM had a bit more European content on their entertainment system that Etihad? Also was there much waiting time between flights?
