Pattaya addicts internet cafe and meeting point

LaaMok

Recommended Posts

I am currently contacting business owners to ask them pledge to donate money/computers/equipment for a FREE internet cafe, in return for onsite advertising.

New computers, aircon, chairs, tables, TV, sofas and all the other stuff.

The idea is to have a free internet cafe / hang out for PA members only and it will be totally free. If non members wish to use the free internet cafe, then they can sign up. As its free, might need a fair usage policy during peak hours.

I will try and get companies to pay for the computers, TV's, furniture and running costs, in return for their advertising on location.

The idea is to have some sofas inside and a table and chairs out the front, where people can buy a drink and sit out the front occassionally. (not a bar or girls etc) The drink sales and stuff may cover some of the staff costs, need 3-4 full time staff, but the prices of drink will be very cheap.

I would go there often just to socialise.

Would you use it? If enough people agree to use it, it would help me persuade business owners to sponsor this idea.

Just need to price up a location. The ideal location would be somewhere that is good for people watching, maybe opposite or next to a bar.

If anyone else wants to make a pledge, please feel free and you will get a place on the wall of the shop! and maybe some other perks.

Update

Ideas so far. - to separate us from other internet cafes

1. Two internet connections with different companies to try and maximise online continuity. Guys who work online, can come down when there internet connection fails

2. Private VPNs on all machines, to prevent surfing restrictions and to keep things more private.

3. May set up the computers so that they restart as new everytime, so all the files are wipped off daily, this decreases the risk of someone planting something.

4. Each computer and modem gets its own battery supply, so if the power goes off, internet will continue

5. Surge protection for all computers and laptops

6. CAT3 lighting to reduce glare

7. Open 24 hours

8. Free calls to 40 different countries (I have the world package on skype)

I'd certainly use it

I often use FLB Bar as my base in Patts, but sometimes I like to gather my thoughts or meet up with someone outside of a bar for a break while I formulate a plan of action; A PA cafe would suit this need perfectly.

Just thinking it would be a good place to sell PA merchandise too (t-shirts, caps and whatever)... could be a real winner!

A great meeting point will be the star attraction, I have had positive responce already.

I just need to find a cheap location.. does anyone here have a property suitable, with a reasonable deal, I don't have the money to pay stupid key money or 100 years rent upfront etc.

I know businesses on soi chaiyaboon are 12000 a month rent.

Great idea! I'd certainly use it, but not so much for Internet access (since I always have my Laptop with me and stay in places with free WiFi) but to meet other members and hang-out occasionally. It would be great if it could be in a central location (LK Metro is my favorite). I wish there was a good way for us to show business-owners how much business they get from PA BM's.

Yeah, just think for a moment how many PA members there are, and how much we all spend in Pattaya each year - if a business can fathom the figures they would be stupid not to jump on board; by establishing some brand loyalty with such a group of rich hansum men it can only be good for them.

The best thing about this internet cafe, would be members can login to the forum, without the worry of girls looking at it, as there are always girls in the regular internet cafes.

If anyway knows some business owners, it would be nice if they can persuade them to sponsor it, i.e by buying a computer

I agree, I was always looking behind my shoulder when using the net in Patts.

Great idea - Even if you kept the price of the computer use low, I'd be very happy to pay for it just so I can have a like-minded location to hang in and decent systems to work on.

You *should* offer password-protected Wifi in the club too, for those of us who carry smartphones - that's even easier and we could request a new password every day (WPA2, btw - never WEP. If you're going to do it, do it right) .

One thing though - no barfines should be allowed anywhere NEAR the place - Could you imagine have a woman peer over the shoulders of everyone cruizing PA? We'd be so fucked...

Still looking for more pledges.

A blanket over the head and monitor does the trick! :-)

I am looking forward to it already. We will have a base to reboot the privilege card system.

Wifi is a certain. The price of internet cafes is so low anyway, its hardly worth charging.

I also carry my laptop around, but it would be nice to go somewhere, where I know its less likely to get nicked, if you pop to the toilet!

Thanks for your support!

Maybe you could pledge a kettle? :D

We will be getting two different internet connections from two different providers, this is to ensure the maximum chance of having problems. It also means that when expats get problems with there connections, they can pop in and use the connection we have.

If we can get a business owner to sponsor the internet connections, it will be even better.

Thanks alot, no need for two! If you are feeling generous, just get a better one, opposed to a 200 baht one.

We will try and get some English tea bags available for free, for a good cuppa!

Don't know about the legalities, but perhaps doubling up as a 'magic pill' dispensary as well - make it easier for the BM's to pick up their dick meds?

I am factoring costs, I have included 9000 baht a year to have a private VPN on every machine, so there are no surfing restrictions.

Thats too dodgy, it will be totally legit. I am planing on getting all the licenses, even ones not needed, such as cigarette licenses.

I am trying to find out about the license you need for internet cafe too.

I'm aware that the BM's come to Pattaya on all kinds of budgets and therefore stay all over town, from the most expensive resorts and hotels to the cheapest of guest houses. I would nevertheless suspect one thing many of us have in common is that we hire mopeds for the duration of our stay, normally from our lodgings or a local provider.

Should a PA internet cafe open and offer a moped hire service I would personally be more than happy to make the small extra effort required to ensure I use the PA service as my first choice. Perhaps with PA branded bikes?

I understand that this would require some initial investment, but I'd guess, if other members also made a point of supporting this service, it would quickly become quite profitable. This could then fund further amenities at the PA cafe.

In fact I think this could be so sucessful my only concern would be for any potential damage done to any BM's existing moped hire business.

Am I over estimating how many BM's hire mopeds, or how much loyalty they are likely to show a PA service?

Just a thought.

I have previously contacted business owners about hiring bikes out branded by PA. But for me, the ROI is not enough. However, I am more than happy to do a deal with kessaya, as he has provided a great service so far, and that's what counts.

I am quite a busy person and I always say businesses should be simple and focused. The aim should be to focus on providing the best internet service possible. i.e decent comfortable office chairs (cost around 5000 baht each) Computers reformatted every 6 months.. replaced every year etc

Latest and best software installed.

Staff that actually know how to use popular applications.

Yet another terrific idea!

I'd certainly support this PA related establishment. It would be wonderful if it was up and running within the next 33 days as I'd be able to do so on my virgin trip! (Maybe not very realistic expectation-wise, yet still.) I feel anything that can reflect the spending power of our BMs can only serve to our advantage by way of deals and discounts, etc. at other establishments seeking our patronage. Those baht we spend, though always significant to business owners, represent even more during the current economic climate, methinks. As such, those owners may be more receptive to different advertising venues or partnership agreements than what's typically been the norm in the past.

I tell you what, I feel this could easily lead to a diversification into other segments of business there should the administration choose to persue it, as any venue we BMs fully support should flourish, right?!

Peace,

TM

There are alot of opportunities out there, but the ROI in Pattaya is crap for most things. And its alot of hard work and hassle. I am better doing things online. This will be a fun project and hopefully doesn't cost me money to support it.
