Mongolian Beef

I initially intended to post an update concerning this dish, but according to a Topic Search I have never posted about it before.

The author states that this recipe can easily be tailored according to one's preferences. I tailored.

  • I upped the Ginger and Garlic a little.
  • I use Sesame Oil for the marinade.
  • I changed the sauce significantly
    Reduced the Brown Sugar to 1 TBSP from 1/4 Cup
    Added 1 TBSP Sambal Olek for a little heat and flavor
    Added 1 TBSP Hoisen Sauce to partially offset the Brown Sugar reduction
    I backed down the Soy Sauce 1 TBSP and replaced that with Fish Sauce
    Added 1/2 tsp of freshly ground black pepper
  • I cut the Flank Steak into longer strips. I used a very good Wagyu Flank that I had bought online for about 500. This alone made a huge difference. I buy my Flank from Sloane's. Sloane's goes out of stock frequently, so when I notice that Flank Steak is available, I buy 3 or 4 and toss them into the freezer. Flank is my most often used medium cost beef steak for stir fries etc. I would post the link for Sloane's, but their web site is currently in Songkran mode. :)
  • I finish the dish with Sesame Seeds.

At the risk of losing any semblance of humility, I will state that the finished product was delicious. The Mrs loved it. I got a wide open eyes "Wow" on this one.
