ear wax removal in Pattaya

Not really convenient for me.  I imagine shipping liquids internationally is a hassle and then there's the ridiculously expensive  international shipping costs.

This stuff (and many other similar competitive products) is sold in pharmacies all over the world, as well as Walmart and most grocery stores.

Wal-mart doesn't exist in my country.  But I'm well aware of products like Cerumol which can be bought from a pharmacy.

to help update the thread.. I got an ear infection so booked to see a ENT doctor at Pattaya International Hospital. I was in pain and just wanted sorted. I could not even chew my food it got so bad.

In the Doc 15 minutes , he vacuumed the infected ear to get all the crap out, told me it was some kind of fungal infection . Prescribed a load of pills and drops set me back 3800 baht.

Feel I have been slightly over charged by about 50% lol but for future issues and ear wax removal/clean by a doctor ( which I have been advised I should do every 6 months as I have wet ear and thin canals no idea what it is!!) if anybody could recommend the best places or better options.  would be very much appreciated cheers

I used to swim competitively and with all the hours spent in the water it wasn't uncommon to get fungal infections in the ear; aptly named "swimmer's ear".

What proved very effective were ear drops to help displace and dry out the water from ears after swimming. It's common enough local pharmacies should have it.

Be careful on how often you use it as the active ingredient is isopropyl alcohol which can leave the ear canal too dry.

I usually get this done once a year or every two years and was thinking I'd get it done in Thailand while I'm there in a couple of months.  I searched this part of the forum and see one poster got it done at one of the hospitals in Pattaya a couple of years ago.  I was wondering if there are any doctors' clinics that also do it and if anyone out there had recent experience.  I saw it cost 1400 -1600 a couple of years ago if you go to the hospital.  Where would you recommend going? Will the price  be different for a tourist as opposed to an ex-pat?  What sort of waiting time would I be in for?

Used to be done at barber shops, with many men availing themselves of the service when they had a haircut. Could never work out why..... I'm 68 and have never had ear wax removed in my life.

Yes,I agree I had wax removal at 100Baht barber  on left side of Soi Buakhow ,as the Baht bus/songtaew goes direct to Central Road , past the Night Market ,food market but before Lengkee's Restaurant and the turn left on to Central Road.

I think beside the bar beers on soi Cheap Charlie.

Cost 60 Baht

Guess I am 54 and never had my ears cleaned - other than with a qtip which you not supposed to do either.  In fact, never was that impressed with haircuts that got in Thailand either.  However, when I visited Vietnam a couple years back they had these luxury spas which really were quite the places and ended up with the ear cleaning there the first time as one of the services in a package.  Have to say that was very impressed with this service and even though I can appreciate the potential dangers they really seemed to know what they were doing.  I ended up getting this done about 3 times in 1.5 month stay.  The 2nd time I had this done they actually dug a seed out of my one ear from a crop I had not grown for 2 years so it had to have been in there a long time - part of the game with these places is they like to show you what they dig out and it surprised me the amount of crap that is in there.  Have to say that really miss that service now.  I always did think though that if ever had a sudden loud noise or something that caused you to turn your head at the wrong time the damage would be severe.

The cost of this service seemed pretty minimal relative to amount of time they spent - I think it was somewhere between $10-20 Cdn.

My ear wax totally hardened and earwax removal drops etc useless. Went to Pattaya Internationally Hospital who tried to remove the hardened was with water spray without success. Next day the Ear Nose and Throat specialist at this hospital removed the solid wax with a special machine, sonic I think. Very ugly black muck removed from both ears. Success.

I have to get the wax cleared out of my ears every year or so.  Have had my GP use the "old fashioned" irrigation method to clear out a few times, but when got stuck here last year I needed my annual clear out, so checked which day the ear specialist was working in Pattaya Memorial.  Didn't even book and arrived, got seen by the doctor, he used a vacuum machine, cleared everything out and was out within half an hour.  Cost 2,075baht

Over the counter liquids don't work for me and it can be dangerous and very painful to let someone who does not know what they are doing clean out your ear wax. My GP even warned me before doing the irrigation procedure that there is always a slight risk of perforating an ear drum and suggested the safest way is suction, but that is only undertaken by specialists!

I suffer with this after a period of time. I bought a bluetooth camera probe with a little wax digger on the end and it works great.

The barber services are pretty useless for me.

I bought the Mi version online, but there are Mi stores in large Thailand malls that might have one on the shelf.

I'm not quite sure yet how much I like it. It seems like it may take a little more coordination than I currently seem to possess.

I recently looked at buying one, but knowing my coordination, I think if I did buy one of these, I'd end up in the doctors surgery, the conversion would go like this:

Doctor: What can I do for you today....ah I see you have blood pouring out of one of your ears, what happened?

Me: Well doctor I bought one of those Bluetooth camera sticks, with a metal digger on the end of it, to remove the wax inside my ear.

Doctor: After thorough examination, I can now confirm you are now deaf in one ear.....your a fuckin idiot.

Well, interestingly enough I had my ears cleaned last trip at a barber shop on Soi Buakhao. Cute lady, awful ear cleaning. I didn't notice at the time instead of proper tools, she was using cotton buds. I did end up with blood coming out of one ear.

Fortunately my hearing is bad enough already that I haven't noticed it being any worse. First thing back in Udon I went to an ENT clinic and had my ears checked. There was abrasion, but no damage, but it did cause me a few days of concern.

Now, back to the Mi BeBird. Even though I am somewhat uncoordinated with it, the tips on it are silicone. There's no metal digger on the end, just a flexible medical silicone scoop. I think you'd need to work at it to ram it in your ear enough to cause damage--could be done, but I think it would take some effort to do so. 🙂

You got the posh one lol. I got the ebay special lol.

I found the heads on them were too big and you can't see what you're trying to dig out. Not recommended for the faint hearted, but i taped a needle around the probe bit instead. You have to pull your ear up to get deep inside. You're still quite far from the eardrum but steady hands are needed.

Years ago i had it done in vietnam by a teenager with a long needle and a miners lamp. Unbelievable what came out and this was after i'd had them washed by my UK doctors surgery. The water irrigation does nothing when its stuck and crusty. Urgh!

I read all your TF reviews, so it is possible that you would probably see more pussies in a week, than a gynecologist.:WinkGrin1:

More expensive than the ENT doctor mentioned above, but I had mine cleared by suction at Pattaya Memorial Hospital.  Just found out what day the ENT doctor was in, walked in, explained what I needed, saw the consultants, ears vacuumed and I think the costs were Baht800 for the doctor and the same again for actual procedure and around Baht 100 for nursing fees. Very quick and painless.  This was about 2 years ago.
