Christmas Dinner Options 2017

Breaking news-  Chik-n-Coop Bar in the arcade next to Soi Diana is offering a  Christmas buffet at 500 baht, turkey and all the trimmings.. For anyone who's had Coop's holiday meals. it's great value for money.  Coop told me tonight he has 55 places left.  So if you want a great Christmas dinner on Dec. 25  American Style, call in at Coop's.  It's a better deal than any of the fixed-plate options.  It starts at 6.00 p.m. on the 25th, get there by 5.30 p.m. if you want to be assured of a seat.

That's the SAME price it was last year without the free flow of booze option.  In 2016, I paid 1,389 baht, but that included the free flow of booze.  Without it, the cost last year would have been 899 baht.  This year,  there doesn't appear to be a free-flow option.

I tried asking about the difference between the Santa Rock buffet and the BBQ buffet but unfortunately, I haven't got an answer back.  I believe the only difference is that the BBQ buffet includes beef skewers and seafood.

It still is not clear to me whether you are talking about the Starz Diner or at the Hard Rock Cafe on Beach Road: they are two totally different venues. But as the Startz Diner is not requiring prepayment (or at least wasnt requiring prepayment when friends booked last week) and as far as I know is not doing a buffet for 899B, I assume that you are talking about the Beach Road cafe.

Last year the cafe (on Beach Road) advertised a buffet without free-flow drinks, whist the Starz Diner (inside the hotel and set well back from Beach Road) advertised a much more extensive buffet that included free-flow drinks for just under 1400B. The Starz diner buffet included many items that were simply not included in the Beach Road cafe one: I know because I looked at the Beach Road one on the day before eating in Starz Diner where I had a booking.

Here are two promotional links from last year:

http://www.inspirepattaya.com/pattaya/christmas-dinner-buffet-hard-rock-hotel-pattaya-24th-25th-decembe-2016/

http://www.inspirepattaya.com/pattaya/christmas-carvery-hard-rock-cafe-pattaya-24th-25th-december-2016/

that also show the differences and prices.

This year the price for the Starz Diner buffet is about the same but without the free-flow drinks. But the buffet should be much more extensive than the cheaper one on Beach Road, as indeed it was last year.

Here are the links I posted last week for this year. They explain the differences quite well.

So this year you have a reduced "Santa Rock" Christmas carvery at the Hard Rock Cafe for 899B: http://pattaya.hardrockhotels.net/offers/santa-rock/

And you have a much more extensive Christmas BBQ Buffet at Starz Diner for 1299B: http://pattaya.hardrockhotels.net/offers/the-great-christmas-charcoal-bbq-buffet/

To clear up some confusion about the price of this year's Santa Rock Christmas Carvery Buffet at the Hard Rock Cafe:  it is 899 baht, inclusive tax and service. This year the HR is requiring pre-payment.  I have erased any identifying info from the invoice.

Two more at the least expensive end of the scale for Christmas buffets. Both are close to LK Metro.

The name of the restaurant wasn't given in the ad above on the left.  It's The Haven on Soi Lengkee.

A few points regarding Christmas dinner in Pattaya.

1) If you have booked at Jolly's for Christmas or are considering it, you might want to check with the restaurant to see if anything has changed recently regarding the Christmas carvery. This ONLY concerns Jolly's.

2) Several restaurant owners have said advanced bookings for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are way down compared to previous years.  Whether this is due to fewer farang tourists in town or prices for Christmas dinner having reached the tipping point is hard to say.  But I've been told by someone with insight into such matters that restaurants which in past years were fully booked by early December still have plenty of spaces with 10 days to go.

3)  Another more expensive option:

4)  Some details about the dinner at Chik-n-Coop (home-made fudge!!! C5aDjrRz_bigger.jpg )

Coop.JPG

Another great thing about Coop's meals is that he always has som tam and other Thai dishes so that Thai female companions have food they like.  They can nibble on a bit of turkey or ham and try a spoonful of dressing to say they have eaten farang Christmas dinner, but then fill up on familiar food.

That is $72. U.S. per person. Pretty fuc#en expensive for a plate of Butterball turkey and some potatoes. I will stick with a nice plate of Thai food from my neighborhood restaurant. 70 Thai baht including a cold bottle of water. No tip needed. Merry Christmas to all!!

This is our 'one course' Turkey Dinner option, it included Roast Turkey, N.Z Lamb, Roast Australian Sirloin Beef (medium), Honey Glazed Ham, there's also a three course option.  We have booking's for about 50% of our Turkey Dinner availability  (available portions), any thing that's not pre-booked will be available to walk-in customers on the day, there's also a fair bit of brown meat which if someone wanted once the white meat portions are gone etc.

Cheers

This one isn't a Christmas dinner per se, but it's holiday related and carries a great price:

Untitled-1.jpg.189066e9428e4accee8e9345ba585dd4.jpg

Another on the Darkside that could be a good option for those who don't want a traditional U.K. or U.S. Christmas dinner two days in a row:

On the Darkside yet again for Christmas dinner. but in the traditional style:

The risk factor in Robin Hood serving up a crap meal is too high to chance it and at that price and lower, there's heaps of others.

So far

The Haven looks to me at 1200 baht for unlimited buffet and unlimited draught beer, house wine and soft drinks + I've never heard of anyone ever saying the food isnt anything but good, makes it to me anyways, the clear top choice.

image.png.88e5bb704f421318708009d5b570ff95.png

Robins Nest is another that looks good value at 795 baht and again is an all you can eat but I'm pretty sure The Haven will be much better.

I'm not going to be there unfortunately but just giving my opinion from what's been seen so far.

One more option at the Centara Azure hotel on Soi 15 between The Avenue and Soi Bukhao:

I don't have any info on Christmas dinner yet, but the Butcher's Arms on Soi Bukhao is now open again after renovation and has offered a traditional Christmas dinner in the past.

This is anecdotal and take it with as many grains of salt as you like, but I've heard most Pattaya restaurants still have seats available for Christmas dinner.  Bookings are said to be off from previous years;  only a few restaurants are booked out.  Whether this is due to fewer farang tourists this year or prices for Christmas dinner passing the threshold of pain is impossible to say.

The cheapest I've seen so far for a decent Christmas meal is Coop's all-you-can-eat buffet at the Chik-n-Coop Bar (details in a previous post).  However, be aware it's U.S. style and there's no Christmas pudding if that matters to you.  But for turkey with all the U.S. trimmings, it can't be beat.

Just a theory , but aside from families and groups...does the single monger on holiday really care about a traditional Christmas dinner ?

I have only been in Thailand once for Christmas  and I think I had sushi .

I am here for the sex , and I think after a large meal of turkey , bread stuffing, gravy, potatoes  and sweets,

I would be more inclined for a long sleep rather than a long time.

I am not ting tong...my mother had me tested.
