A nation will get 5 UCL places if both the Europa League and UCL are from the same nation.

You didn't read the UEFA article:

Regarding the top three associations (i.e. Spain, Germany and England*): if two clubs from one of these countries win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and neither finish their domestic league in a position that qualifies them for the UEFA Champions League (something distinctly possible in England with Manchester City and Liverpool), the following will happen:

– The club that won the UEFA Champions League will go straight into the group stage

– The UEFA Europa League winners will go into the UEFA Champions League play-offs

– The club that had qualified for a UEFA Champions League play-off spot via their domestic league competition (i.e. finished fourth) will transfer into the UEFA Europa League

The reason they lose the 4th slot is because they would have 6 teams qualified.  The maximum is 5.  So if Liverpool wins, City loses, and Liverpool doesn't get into top 4,  BPL would have 5 teams in the UCL.  They don't have to win both competitions to get the extra entry.  Barcalona winning UCL last year had no impact on Spain getting 5 into UCL.

Assuming Man City do NOT win the CL - as that just complicates things!

IF Liverpool win the Europa and finish outside the top 4 then the 4th place team will play in the Europa and NOT the CL.

That's what was said on Soccer Saturday on Sky last week.

Well,  Sky Sports is certainly saying something different from UEFA's post.  I will side with UEFA on matters UCL.  It also jives with what happened last year with Sevilla.

I've been saying over and over again, the only time that any country can get the extra UCL place is if they have clubs that win both the Europa and the UCL and atleast one of them do not finish in the automatic qualification places.

Do you have link to say what I'm saying is not correct? Random thoughts on how it "could be" don't count...

There were links posted previously on this thread I think or maybe another thread but I am sure the search function is working so somebody can find them.

The article you keep referring to and relying on ONLY deals with the situation of BOTH Man City & Liverpool winning the CL/EL and not finishing top 4. It says NOTHING about what happens if Liverpool win the EL but Man City don't win CL.

The way I read it is that position 4 only misses out if both Liverpool and man city win the EP and ECL but both finish out of top 4.Since allowance for England to have 5 representative due to possibility of cup winners but not 6 so 4th place gives way.

I have also heard on the radio that Lloydies scenario is correct .

So who knows and I would not bet on either despite having ECL regs written in front of me.

Yes, I do.  The page I linked from UEFA clearly spells out all the scenarios.  If you read it you will understand.  I can't account for the radio/TV reports to the contrary.  Possibly they are correct, but I cannot find anything in print that backs up their scenario.

Leicester are the champions!!! The scenes in the last ten or so minutes and after the game at Stamford Bridge were a disgrace though...

Congratulations to Leicester City , fully deserved the Premiership title , the whole team worked hard together , the budget , the valuation is very small compared to the likes of Liverpool , Man UTD , City , Chelsea and Arsenal . Spurs should be proud of themselves ,they were also fantastic , they will also appear in champion league for the first time for decades (am I right !!!! ) ...

Remember to watch the match of the day , Gary Lineker promised to wear only underpant on MOTD if Lecester wins the premiership ....5555

Many congrats to Leicester. Magnificent achievement.

Nasty match tonight. Expect there will be repercussions for Spurs. They'll need to regroup to make sure of second.

As posted in another thread, I got a kick out of this article which details how much the bookmakers lost on Leicester's win:

http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/15448565/leicester-city-premier-league-title-costs-big-england-sportsbooks-114-million

Maybe they took a hit on Leicester winning , but what they don't mention is all the money they made on the top teams failing to win .

The Bookies dress it up to suit themselves , and think of all the great advertising  " we lost xxxxx pounds on Leicester City winning "

Believe me , it was a great result for the bookies .

Massive result for bookies.

99.9999% of worldwide pre season English Premiership champions bets are down, plus all the division multiples, since the very few that did go for Leicester would be Leicester fans dreaming and at 5000/1 they would not be putting them in multiples. Most of the few that did do them in a single would have cashed out where the bookie is only offering around 80% of the true value of the bet and I am not talking about 80% of original possible returns I am talking 80% of returns divided by new price ,that's why they promote cash out so much it's stinking value..

Some of us did get on them mid season but then the bookies odds were terrible value and the only wise way to back them then was with betfair exchange eg 28th November they were 80 (79/1) on betfair best bookies price was 50/1.

The bookies will be rubbing there hands at all the Burnley,West Brom,Bournemouth,Man Utd mugs queuing up at the beginning of next season to get their bets on their team becoming champions.

Yesterday's match in itself was total bonkers, how 22 players managed to remain on the pitch for the entire duration is beyond me. It was basically kick a minute football with lung bursting pace.

Wanted Leicester to win but felt sorry for Spurs, they went 2-0 ahead & yet could not close the game, superb equalizer from Hazard.

Congrats Leicester!!!, a paradigm shift in football.

Spurs have appeared in the Champions league once before.  In season 2009/10 they finished 4th in the league .  So they qualified for the following seasons Champions league.

And they have qualified for the old European Cup on one occasion..  Spurs have been Champions of England on 2 occasions.  First time in 1950/51 season.  Second time was in 1960/61 when they actually did the league and FA Cup double.  So in 1961/62 Spurs represented England in the European Cup has champions of England for the one and only time

An absolutely phenomenal achievement for Leicester City to win the Premier League title which they fully deserved. It just goes to show what determination, hard work and a winning mentality can do for a football team. Is this the greatest sporting achievement in British sporting history which is what many are saying? It's certainly right up there as a contender. I'm so happy for everyone involved with that club, from the players and staff to the fans. This illustrates the spirit and beauty of "the beautiful game" perfectly - the best thing about it for me is that it'll give every player and every fan of every club in professional football in England the belief that one day it could be their turn. The video of the Leicester team celebrating round Jamie Vardy's house last night is brilliant, what a moment for them and something that they'll never forget. Truly amazing and so inspiring! I have nothing but admiration for the players.

Saying one day it could be your turn is a bit misleading don't you think.

Jeez,it's not like this happens every ten years.

Fact is,the big money clubs will take over again next year and will make damn sure this never happens again. This will only make them spend more don't you think?

I loved it though,fantastic achievement.Underdog story.

This is what watching the NFL is like every year.Thats a league where absolutely anybody can win it.Every year.

Can't underestimate the job the ref did.He did very well.

I would like to see more refs let them go a bit more.

Getting tapped and going down for a free kick in the middle of the pitch is boring IMHO.
