Any good vegetarian spots in Pattaya, I've really reduced my meat consumption over the last few years and enjoy good vegetarian food.

I am not a vegetarian myself, but I like vegetarian food.

There are lots of Indian vegetarian restaurants all over Pattaya. I recommend the one upstairs at Royal Garden Plaza where you will have a good view down at the beach.

Thais are all meat eaters. At least I have never heard about a Thai who doesn't eat any meat, so there's not much real vegetarian thai food, except f.ex. "chicken and rice without chicken". You could order any thai meal and say you want without seafood/meat, but there's no guarantee that it's still pure vegetarian. F.ex. they use fish sauce in lots of meals even if there are no visible meat.

Same goes for any other restaurants, just ask for their vegetarian menu. Subway comes to mind. Unfortunately it might often just be salad and not a proper meal you get full from.

Also be aware that most cheese is not vegetarian food either, as it contains pork. So a vegetarian pizza with cheese might not be strictly vegetarian.

Yes I have met Thai Vegetarians as well, they do exist, I suppose I could order most Thai made dishes e.g. Pad Thai with Vegetables and Tofu, Indian Curries and Pizza is ok if they use a cheese which has non animal rennet which many use. As Im not a pure Vegetarian at the moment I can have non Veg stuff as well, I just choose to eat less animal proteins and saturated animal fats for health..

Yes, Saras, top floor, Royal Garden Mall. Quality Indian, 100 percent veggie, I was there last night and it was totally packed with Indians (not on tours, coming individually) so that should tell you something.

Madras Darbar across from Pattaya beach mall on 2nd road specializes in South Indian / veg dishes but also has meat dishes. Also very good and very popular with Indians.

Saras does vegetarian Thai, Chinese, western food as well ... but the value is better with the Indian stuff.

Also Indian-Chinese fusion which is a big thing in India.

I am going to try vegan style diet now as my blood lipid readings are terrible and have a family history of heart disease.

It's good to know there are vegan/veggie options in Pattaya.

Half of all the Indian restaurants in town are veggie restaurants. The other half also has a good selection of veggie food.

There are a few vegetarian Thai restaurants spread around town. I've seen at least one in Banglamung, one in Sukhumvit somewhere, one close to Lan Po market in Naklua, one in North Pattaya close to Lukdod, one in Jomtien Wat Boon road (or was it Chaiapruek?). At these restaurants, the meal costs like 40 baht.

Friends, Your are in the heart of vegetarian country. The Thai diet is based on veggies and its in all-most every dish. Just say no meat. I like my vegs uncooked, a salad, but watch if they rinse with the local water your stomach that is unaccustomed to it might protest. Looks like Sizzler is safe. :)

A lot of these places have mostly textured vegetable protein (fake meat) made from soy. I don't find it delicious or tasty. There's also some question about how nutritious it is. A good Indian restaurant is best. There are so many Indian vegetarian foods from paneer (dairy) to various dal dishes (split peas, etc. - technically pulses, I believe) and Indians know how to make 'em tasty! Then there's the variety of breads to choose from: chapati, parathi, roti, etc. What with the sub-categories, there's dozens of them.

So far from vegetarian country you can get. How many vegetarian Thai people have you met? It's hard to find vegetarian Thai food, let alone a vegetarian Thai restaurant. And even if you order a Thai dish and ask them not to put meat in it, there's probably still some leftovers from meat in the bowl they make the food from the previous dish, and not to forget fish sauce and MSG they put in everything.

Diet can certainly reduce the lipids, but medications will have a far more profound effect, much greater than what diet alone can accomplish.  I have family history issues and had high lipids years ago and was taking Lipitor which got things under control.  Over several years I lost weight, got into better shape and eventually was able to get my lipids into the higher end of the normal range without the pills so I stopped taking them (with my doctor's approval).  But 10 years after that I ended up having heart troubles anyway and now I am on much higher doses of Lipitor, probably for the rest of my life.  Recent clinical trials have shown that this therapy significantly improves outcomes for people who have had "an episode."

If I had it to do over again, knowing what I know now, I would have stayed on Lipitor and taken higher doses continuously from long ago, before anything bad ever happened.  I realize that these matters are controversial and every person is different, but I would just encourage you to consider talking to your doctor about it.  I suppose you already have...

Thank you for the information and advice.

I didn't talk to my regular doctor yet. The way I found out about my blood profile was through a joint specialist that was a referral from my knee doctor (another specialist separate from my regular doc). He wanted to check my uric acid levels so had me do a blood test.

I'll schedule another blood test soon and see how far my diet can take me. I know there's a strong genetic factor for this so if that doesn't help I'll see about statins.
