On a side notes, it's not exactly a simple matter if you get herpes. Those who've had it for a while can brush it off as no big thing, but trust me, it's devastating when you first find out. It does change your life, you wrestle with the thought of whether you should tell someone you are interested in a relationship with, things like that (if you have a conscience).

Poor Americans :) Nobody cares to much about Herpes in Europe or in Thailans - it is seen as a common disease and people are even joking about visible symptomps. Nobody is expecting to be informed infront that the partner is having it already - Europe is not same like USA.

Very true.  But most people learn to live with it and I don't think it should be put in the same bracket as more serious long-term diseases.

Is it something you worry about?

Nope, I bag up every time but I am happy to accept that life is risk and while you can minimise that risk you can never eliminate it.

It shouldn't, but at the same time there is definitely a moral issue for guys with infectious diseases like herpes engaging in P4P in places like Pattaya without full disclosure to their sexual partners.

In fact, perhaps that's the appeal of Pattaya, regardless of your situation, you never feel any guilt over withholding medical conditions to every bargirl you meet. I suppose that might be the same for some guys back home, but surely some people would agonize over at what point they tell someone they fall in love with their medical history.

I doubt many mongers would have much luck if they informed their potential barfine "By the way I have herpes"! I don't any bars screen their girls for herpes either. Maybe Devil's Den does?

So that explains these purple spots on the end of my dick? :SoWhat1:

From what Ive read they don't even screen for herpes in the porn industry, they screen all STD's but herpes is so common they don't bother, basically they would struggle to find performers otherwise..

Any herpes sufferer who has sex during an outbreak is being rather foolish.

I see Robin Williams had to pay millions in damages for infecting someone with herpes.  RIP.

The article doesn't explain exactly how you can get herpes when using a condom. I find this very curious. Perhaps condom users are not putting on the condoms correctly, or perhaps the condoms are coming off during sex.

I'd say guys take off the condom without using rubber gloves, then they touch themselves or some item that in turn touches them. The condom prevents the virus from getting directly on your dick, not on your hands or later anything you touch.

So knowing the risk involved what steps can one take to minimize the occurance other than condoms and abstaining from daty

"I read a statistic somewhere that 70% of new infections happen when a partner shows no symptoms."

I spent over ten years living with a woman who had Herpes, which she got from a previous boyfriend. She told me right from the start of our dating. We never used condoms as I had had a vasectomy, but she always knew when an outbreak might be coming and was very careful at this time.

The outbreaks got more frequent when she was stressed, but they did reduce in frequency over the years. Overall it did not have any dramatic effect on our lives. I read a statistic somewhere that 70% of new infections happen when a partner shows no symptoms. I have been tested several times over the years and am clear.

Let gets some correct information here:

1.) Condoms certainly help prevent transmission but the virus can exist any place under the area converted by a pair of underpants.

2.) The carrier may be asymptomatic.

3.) Your first known case may be the worse, accompanied by flu like symptoms

4.) Generally outbreaks reduce in frequency and virulence as time passes

5.) Outbreaks can come back anytime but can be more common with stress, etc.

6.) Suppression therapy(eg. Valcyclovir) can reduce the incidence of outbreaks, their severity and reduce transmission during periods of no symptoms

Not so sure about that. And it would be a conscience issue about whether to tell a potential partner if I had it. And that said, she might have it and avoid telling me or she might have it and not know that she has it. Not sure if there would also be a potential legal issue if I had it, didn't tell and passed it on. Imagine there could well be.

And kind of assumed that it was common among P4P girls in Thailand so always a risk of picking it up. And I imagine, if a P4P does not have it, it is a risk she is prepared to take, to go with an asymptomatic monger, as we all know that condoms will only protect the areas they cover. Wonder how many mongers would declare (to a P4P girl) that they had it, ie, but were asymptomatic right now.

If she catches herpes from me, it's her fault. For not practicing safe sex.

Genital herpes is not funny.

If you are happy to infect a girl reassess what affect this will have on other guys.

Many girls are carriers, without symptoms.

Covering up offers some protection....but bear in mind the girls that are given "clean STD" medical status arent checked for Herpes.....nor genital warts.

Condoms are very limited in preventing herpes spreading, you can get herpes right at the base of your shaft or even the pelvic area from rubbing during sex, the virus can then spread via the nerve ganglia and show up anywhere within your underpants.. How many times have your touched a girls pussy and then jerked off shortly after during sex, you can get herpes that way too, see what Im getting at here, its a very common disease, most girls will not tell you they have it, even when they are in long term relationships... Apart from becoming a priest or monk I have no recommendations on how to avoid contact with someone who has it..

And by the same token, would imagine that a Pattaya P4P girl would not expect a monger to mention that he had also had it, especially if she had been working for a while and had seen a few mongers. Common sense would suggest that it's an 'elephant in the room', issue, ie, an unspoken issue, in Pattaya. An occupational hazard of P4P. It is common.

Spot on mate,  the actual STD test working girls get doesn't even include Herpes, same for adult video industry, its just way to common to bother with..

In Europe - hardly :)  It may vary from country to country, but in my country - no chance at all. Herpes is even not recognised as real STD and nobody is beeing tested for it - only symptomatic diagnosis - because it is so common and there are not known serious health issues.
