I've just found the word ootsaa อุตสาห์ which does mean to try in an industrious or dilligent way. Apparently there are a few different ways of spelling it. I would still say that phayayaam is closer to your translation and better for everyday use but ootsaa is a valid word and new to me, Cheers :Bravo1:

jeese, I've inadvertently taught you something, nice :Bravo1:

I checked with a thai person and they said "man gaan, man gaan" so it's all good.

Didn't say you were wrong herds, just said that I'd never heard it before, and yes I have learned something. I think that there is more of an emphasis on creativity than phayayaam which is more generic.

I know, all I meant was I got someone else to double check, no probs.

๓ today:

Camera = glong taai roop - ดล้องถ่ายรูป (I used to say just 'glong' but that word on it's own can sounds quite like the thai word for 'box' which left me with quite a few blank stares, so unless the context is completely obvious I add 'taai roop')

Photo = roop taai - รูปถ่าย

tourist = nak tong teeow - นักท่องเที่ยว

maybe/perhaps - mai nae - ไม่แน่ (lifted this straight form the dictionary, it also said 'baang tee' can be used as well, a word that also means 'sometimes/occasionally'.

This is an excellent idea for a thread. I have spent hours reading and trying to learn these! Can't wait for my wife to come so I can use some of them. Get this in threads of distinction ASAP. :wub:
