Whose Tracking you online

This is a bit of a side question:  Is it possible for anyone to determine your identity through your ip address?

There are quite a few factors in play that would prevent a straight, yes/no answer.  First question: Who is looking?  For an individual, it is nearly impossible to find an IP and tell exactly who that is from the IP alone.  For a government agency with access to private databases, most likely.  For a mega corporation like Google, who provides the masses with free cloud services in trade for your information, easily possible.

Other factors are if you have a dynamic or static IP, if you are using a proxy server, if you are using public wifi or stealing wifi, or if you are using mobile data.  The best I can do without doing anything potentially illegal is make an educated guess on what city you live in based off your IP address.  Your actually identity would be safe. If Google was looking, then it would be a different story.  They log your IP every time you log into Google services with your username/password.  For instance, check the bottom right link after logging into Gmail ("Details").  That tracks your last 10 logins by browser and IP address.  Seeing as though they know who you are already, then they can connect the dots very easily.  That would mean anyone with access to Google's data and general web traffic data could conceivable track you.  Highly unlikely to happen, but I'm sure the Feds would be able to pull something like that off.

Just to bring this topic upto date,

there is a browser called ''EPIC'',

It has a button you click and you go thru proxies.

Hope this helps the paranoid.

Yes, Epic browser blocks tracking attempts and has a built-in proxy server.  Recommended.
