Whose Tracking you online

So any of you bright sparks are bright enough to say how does it effect me day to day then please ?

It just means the mega corporations such as Google with have enough analytic data to understand your browsing trends in order to try to show you ads of interest. When I say you, I'm referring to you as an IP address or approximate regional data point of a person. They technically shouldn't have your exact identity, just a representation of a person via statistical data. Google probably could take it a step further by matching up Google+ and Gmail data to pinpoint your exact identity, but doing so is a violation of some type of wiretapping law in the US (not sure about abroad).  They probably still do it, but can't act on that data without the Feds getting all up in their ass about it.

My concern is that while Google might not be evil (jury's still out on that one), the US Government sure can be evil. On the upshot, Google releases an annual report on how many times they've been asked or subpoena'd for this type of data from government agencies. At least we have an idea on how obtrusive the government is year to year.

Lastly, as mentioned already, you shouldn't get too worked up over it unless you have something to hide.  I really don't care if the government knows my depraved porn browsing habits, or what pants I'm buying off a website. If they are spying on my data, then they're just wasting their time and my tax dollars. If you are really paranoid about your digital footprint and don't like the thought of corporations or government knowing your preferences, then run with the browser extensions and proxies that some of the above people listed.

Thanks Matey I sort of get that then, which is why sometimes hotel or Shit gets listed in a Site I am looking at, and have looked at before then.

No changes for me to do I think, as I have not done anything since I started Surfing 15yrs now I guess, and all the Porn and Shit I look like is nothing illegal.

As I was I think

You are correct mate and things are getting more complicated these days.

It's not just google but many other getting our digital footprint and together is actual our real Identity and if those data are put together can be very much scary.

Rest assure somewhere / somehow our every digital foot print is stored, and just imagine getting these together in one place is our real IDENTITY. Which can be used for good & bad both!!!

Cell phone location (every location we move with our cell hone and every number we call)

Emails & text massage (who & what are the content)

Web browsing pattern (What kind of site we actually visit on regular basis and what amount of time)

Online shopping pattern (What are stuff we buy online)

Online porn / explicit content (What are our interest in pornographic / unsocial content)

Facebook (Everything we post can never be deleted virtually)

And many many more..

Now putting these info's together, We can find out

Any person identity

Any person real time location

All contact numbers & family members details

All bank & other confidential data

By web browsing trend, people mind & interest can be analyse

Facebook provides most current pictures & location

And many many more. Together these are more accurate identity of our own self which is more accurate then we thought about ourselves. Scary stuff.

And Google says they make our web experience better! LOL

Tin foil hat time (again). The newest version of Android (Jellybean 4.3) is now implementing discrete wifi triangulation, meaning that it will turn wifi on even when GPS is off or unavailable in order to help find your position without GPS. Not as accurate as GPS, but will get relatively close in areas with a lot of wifi signals. The only problem is that I've yet to figure out a way to turn it off on my Nexus 4, which means you are theoretically trackable everywhere.  People might argue that The Man could already do this with cell tower triangulation, but wifi triangulation (when available) is far more accurate than cell tower triangulation.  The difference is feet to yards/meters.

Lastly, just to get all the paranoid BM's all worked up ;) the person who mentioned search history in your browser should also be aware of location history on Android phones. The newer versions of Android Google Maps have linked to your Gmail account. Through your Gmail link, they have been storing all map searches and navigation details. That, thankfully, can be turned off and/or erased. No need to get caught cheating on your girlfriend when she looks up where you really were last night.

I was wondering if Big Brother is actually concerned with a Fat, overaged monger who is looking to Punt Prostitutes?

And not fly a plane into a building if it doesn't work out.

Let 'em look, it might be the best alibi I have.

Ha! Well, they weren't interested before this post, but now that you hit some keywords, they'll be bugging your flat today.

I'm with your mindset in that I really don't care if someone is looking at my data. What I do care about is having the option to turn tracking off. It is still the concept of not being given the choice that bothers me.

What I find strangest on this list is : www.it-mechanics.com/‎

Its my IT department who take care all software and hardware for our hotel in Pattaya.

A small company.

Could be explained by either an advertisement they placed on this website or an image/video that was hosted on their server that was linked to a post on this forum. Could also be as simple as a link to their website on someone's signature. Maybe an employee from that company is on this forum?

If this company does web design too, it is possible that they have some hosted content on their web server that would come up here and there on the internet, particularly when surfing regional website (ie. site about Pattaya).  If they made a website for a business, there might be a few accidental reference links back to the IT testing server before the final design was conveyed to the owners. I made that mistake a few times, where some of the formatting images where still hosted on my server instead of the website owner's server because I forgot to change the style coding.

That entire list is passive tracking, meaning that they aren't following anyone. They are just seeing the statistics about who/where people are who looked at image "X" or video "y".  To give you an example, if I were to send you an email that had an embedded picture, and if you were to view the email and picture, your computer would have to download that picture from my server. I could then tell that it was viewed, by what IP address, what approximate location, and what time of day.  That doesn't mean I could then follow your every move on the internet. Just doesn't work that way.

They have produced the banner that I am running on this site so maybe that is the reason?

Most likely. Just need to see the code for the image tag if you want to confirm. Chances are, the image is coming from their server, so their name will pop up on a hotlink list like the one in OP's post.

Yeah, but who really gives a F*ck about what i'm talking about.

shagging  Foreign Chicks, with my Fat Belly hiding the reason I'm there.

To play Pornstar and look at their fine arse.people are kept scared in this World.

No one from the CIA gives a F*ck, lest I provide some good footage.

Not likely.

Though, if you want to propagate this Paranoid B*llsh*t then up to you.

F*ck You, you are the reason why Folks are kept scared by so called Government Policy.

Which amounts to local Insurgent Group policy. You f*ckers are still after you're own little space on the turf of politics.

So, therefore, F*ck off and stop trying to be like the Government you supposedly would like to frame for the same reasons.

Without any accountability.

CNut.

Oh, Sorry.

Seriously? It was a joke, and a pretty obvious one. What's up with the FU? Also, what's up with the random capitalization? If you read my post, actually agreed with you. Time to change the meds buddy.

Just saw the banner. While it does point to your website, the domain name server is it-mechanics.com. Here is the who-is confirmation:

Name Server: NS1.IT-MECHANICS.COM

They are also running a SEO campaign for me so they are looking for information connected to my webpage.

Makes sense. I took a quick look at your website code. Looks like they are hitting all the right areas for SEO, so combined with your traffic data, you should get a nice, targeted campaign. Good luck on adding new business!

Taeng Mo  you are right! why should the government care what you or I do, there are more pressing things to concern themselves with.

The problem is the more a government knows about it's citizens the more likely it is to interfere. Now I'm going to the extreme to illustrate my point as follows.

What if all the online data collected shows that 15% of men in New Zealand are browsing mongering website and even booking flights to South East Asia. A group of "concerned" feminists citizens decide that this is an outrage (previously they would not have had these stats, but thanks to the internet they could have extremely detailed stats down to identifying every individual). These 'concerned' citizens then petition the government to pass a law mandating these men attend 'sensitivity' training, and maybe even have their internet access withdrawn.

The flip side of this argument is that the government should do some monitoring to stop paedophiles, terrorists, criminals etc.

The danger is, what happens, when the sub-culture you belong to (mongers) gets lumped in with one of the previous groups. I had a girl tell me that all caucasian men with yellow fever are closet paedophiles, because all asian women look so young.

Of course, as I said, I'm going to the extreme to prove a point, The government may not care what you are doing now, but what if a government comes into power that does care what you do.  Not trying to scare monger just trying to highlight the issues I think all us internet citizens should be concerned about.

Hope I explained my point

@ Little Evil   - Thanks for all the more technical details on this subject,

My Nexus7 is still running on 4.2.2 and waiting for the update of 4.3. I am stuck with regional update preference i guess!

As of now i haven't tagged my mobile number with gmail nor did i enabled location sharing. It does brings few drawback but i am happy with but Wifi triangulation does sound more intrusion in privacy.

Anyway in this current world privacy seems very much luxury and hard to afford!

Btw i am egarly waiting for 2nd generation Nexus 4 and no intention to buy Nexus 7 /2. My current nexus 7 does it's job well. Any way my 5 inch cell phone keeps me more occupied then nexus 7 these days!

I got my 4.3 update for my Nexus 7 last night. Had 4.3 on my Nexus 4 for about a week. After using my Nexus 4 for a bit, I felt that the Nexus 7 felt a little sluggish.  Overall, I'm happy with the Nexus 7, but I have noticed that my battery life took a significant dip in recent months after a little over a year of owning it.

I like the idea of a faster Nexus 7 with a better screen, but I can't justify buying a new one when the one I own now does everything I want, albeit a little slow in comparison to my Nexus 4. Sadly, my Nexus 4 took a dive already and the rear glass has a crack in it.

I'd like to credit my prior experience in freelance programming, web design, and computer science undergrad.

The real answer is that I'm just a huge tech nerd who still messes around with various hardware and software platforms for fun, despite not being in the industry anymore.  I actually live a very balanced life, but if you get me talking about this type of stuff, I'll post on forever.  For some people, it is cars. For others, it might be golf.  For me, it is technology.

This is a bit of a side question:  Is it possible for anyone to determine your identity through your ip address?
