Talking of westeners scamming, I heard a story recently of an english guy who on his last night in Pattaya went to a beer bar decided to bar-fine a lady then explained that he was going home the next day & that he only had a 100 euro note. The bar owner (thai) said no problem and took the note and gave the english guy a fair exchange back in baht. Transaction completed the guy took girl back to his room for a short time. Girl then returns to bar & he goes out for rest of night to drink........BUT......when bar girl gets back to bar all hell is let loose! The 100 euro note is a fake. Next thing 4 big ugly thais turn up at hotel of English guy explain situation to receptionist who gives them english guys details (from photocopy of passport when he checked in) and advises them to contact the police......as this is happening the english guys mate returns to hotel and is confronted by 4 very angry mean thai guys who threaten to do nasty physical things to him unless he cotacts english guy immediatly.....Mate plays stupid and says english guy has left for airport to return home." OK then we will cotact the BKK police to have him arrested at airport as he trys to leave thailand.......end result english guys mate has to pay a very large sum of money to buy them off so his friend did not get locked up......

Ever wondered why every Thai you meet..... especially BG...always ask you....."Where you from"....You may think that they are all just trying to be friendly......but.....

Wrong...in there head they are doing the simple money conversion...of your Farang dollar.....into there....Thai Baht.......Bad exchange means Bad customer...

So the answer is Yes...everyone in Pattaya wants a piece of your arse

Do you ever notice when you read the forum or are just speaking with another BM or farlang from whatever country and they

start to tell you a story about the Thasi motorbike taxi driver or the Thai lady that sells shirts or the Thai bar tender or whomever...........

What they say is that this person, charged me a fair price ( not the Thailand Double Standard... One price for Thai's and one price for Farlang's ).

The person telling you this story is happy and somewhat surprised that they only had to pay the going rate... that they only paid what was fair,

That they got treated fair and just.

What this person is saying is that they did not get "SCAMMED".

We as Farlang's expect to get double charged, we expect the worse in pricing, we expect to be quoted a price for an artricle or for services that is outrageous and over the top,

so when we get treadted honestly, fairly and correctly we are normally shocked and amazed.

I have travelled to many developing nation countries and basically they are all the same in there treatment of Farlang's.....

Places like Brazil.... corrupt, dangerous and they will scam you in a heart beat... They will fling a Shit like substance on your shoes then try to get you to get a shoe shine...

even if you are wearing trainers or sneakers or suede shoes. Any scam you can thinkl of, it will be run on you in Brazil.

Mexico is the same, a scam a minute.

Philippines, evryone has their handout and you will get scammed from the moment you walk off the plane.Any and every concieviable scam in the world.

India, beggers ansd scammers will hound you endlessly.

So when in the LOS and you get treated with respect and honestly and fairly, it catches you off guard.

Exceptions to all of the above is when you are with Thai friends or Thai people that have your best interest at heart, then you see the difference in the treatment.
