Some Good Meals

This isn't a restaurant review, just pics of some good meals I've had in Pattaya.

Sunday roast at the Punch and Judy Pub. I should have turned the plate as you can hardly see the meat (three kinds, beef, pork, lamb). It was probably the best British-style roast I've had in Pattaya.

It doesn't look like much in the pic, but the homemade apple crumble with custard was excellent, too! I can fully recommend the Punch and Judy if you're looking for a tasty Sunday meal.

A chili burger at the Golf Club on Soi LK Metro:

Very good Tex-Mex chili topping on a thick, well-cooked burger.

French-style shepherd's pie at Mama's Cafe on Soi 6. Yummy mashed potato topping, seasoned with nutmeg.

Grilled squid at a Thai street eatery close to Sapphire Club (and diagonally across from Beach Club) on Soi 15:

and a very spicy dish of octopus with chiles at the same place:

Your posts are always great quality. Thank you for sharing.

I will definitely look for the Thai Eatery place you mentioned. I also love your post about the Hole in the Wall restaurants.

Not criticizing anything but cant resist to say after looking at them... Heart attack in a plate... (way too many calories and fat in one meal that most of us could handle)

How the hell does one get to punch and Judy's ?

You can take a moto from anywhere. Unless you're good at Thai, best idea is to call Punch and Judy and have one of the staff tell the driver the location. No problem for moto drivers to find it once they know the location. Also usually works to print out a map and show it the moto guys.

You can also ride the baht bus to Jomtien, getting off at Threpprasit Road (just past the 24-hour Foodmart on your left, the same "mini-mall" as Rose Apple MP and the bus terminal for the govt buses to Swampy). Cross the street and get one of the baht buses that runs between Thrappraya Road and Sukhumvit. Get off at Soi 8 and walk about 10 minutes to P & J.

Punch and Judy- third road onto soi 17, follow the road which will bend right then left, the Punch and Judy is on the right hand side after the bends (opposite the eden house). Irish type bar decent pint of guiness at decent price (especially on a Tuesday if they still have drink promo) ate there a few times and the food was always good.

yes can also recommend Punch and Judy for their sunday lunches (there other stuff on the menu is also good).  Never had a bad meal there and usually have at least 2 / 3 sunday lunches a month there.  They also have condiments and I LOOOOVEEE Mint sauce with my sunday lunch.

I had a very good meal at My Way, a Dutch restaurant in the shopping arcade on 2nd road that is across the street from Mike's Mall and runs parallel to Soi Diana.

I had a bowl of Dutch-style tomato soup as a starter.  Very tasty!

The main course was a 180-gram filet mignon wrapped in bacon and with mushroom sauce.  Mashed potatoes and a small green salad were the sides.  The beef was excellent, tender and cooked the way I ordered it.

The filet mignon cost 305 baht and the whole meal - starter,  main course, a SM Light and tip - set me back 500 baht.  I'll definitely be back.

I had a couple of other good meals at Mama's Cafe on Soi 6.  I very seldom eat pizza in Pattaya because it was such a disappointment after the pizza I was used to in NYC. But I saw another customer's pizza at Mama's and decided to give it a try.  It was certainly better than most of the pizza available in Pattaya.  The crust was cooked perfectly, with the right amount of sauce, toppings and cheese. Cost was 295 baht.

Another night I had a squid dish with rice for 140 baht.  Also very good.

I've eaten in Mama's on many occasions and never had a disappointing meal.

I'd read on other boards that the Sunday roast at Punch & Judy has declined over the past few months. Sad to say, I have to agree. Nothing wrong with the meal, just wasn't as tasty as before. I rated P&J's Sunday roast as outstanding in December and January, now it was OK, but not great. The meat wasn't as flavorful as before and the Yorkshire pudding a bit tough. Consistency has always been a problem for Pattaya restaurants. Hopefully the owners will be able to restore the Sunday roast to its former glory.

From May 5:

And for comparison, a couple of pics from two Sundays in December:

But the beef at On My Way (Dutch restaurant in the arcade next to Kiss Food at the corner of 2nd Road and Soi Diana) is as good as ever!

Beef with oyster sauce.  It's a simple dish but one of my favorites when done properly.  The guy at the street eatery next to the Sapphire Club does it very well indeed.

Mama's Cafe prepares some very tasty dishes.  It probably gets less business than it deserves because few people associate Soi 6 with any sort of dining other than at the Y.  I have to admit that I am enough of a foodie that I sometimes visit Soi 6 for the sole purpose of eating at Mama's.
