I had 2 good meals lately in Pattaya.

1. Schnitzel Hans - Specials on Monday and Friday

Restaurant with good German food has constant quality, basic but cozy seating half open indoor seating and also outdoor chairs and tables, can observe DS bars from there hehe ..

Location:  A bit after the middle opp. left lane bars of Drinking street (viewed from 2nd road)

Dish: (very big) Jagerschnitzel with home fried patatos (bratkartoffelen)

Price:  139 Baht  - Special price on Monday and Friday

2. Filet Mignon at Myway restaurant

As mentioned before it's located in the arcade opposite Mike Shopping Mall on 2nd road

Dish: Fillet Mignon (300 grams beef)  with home fries and salad

Price: 370 Baht , there is also one with a lower price that has less beef, I think 300 Baht for 200 grams

After reading the glowing reviews of My Way I decided to try it last night....but unfortunately it was shut....maybe I was too late as it was around 9.30 - 10 pm

Beefeater's was almost full....Patricks was almost empty & the other Steak place....Big Horn (?) was also almost empty

I really like Beefeater, but the photos of My Way look great....so I'm keen to give it a try

Usually insulting someone when making a request is not advisable. ;) Drinking street is off Second Road between Big C North Pattaya and North Pattaya road, on the same side as Big C.

Myway is closed every Friday, also there was a paper on the wall that announced the restaurant will be closed 1-30 June 2013.

Drinking Street is a beer bar complex on 2nd road opposite Tiffany's show (ladyboy show like Alcazar) .

Seen from Tiffany's parking it's right across the road, Schnitzel Hans restaurant is in the street on the left side of the complex (Nongjai 2 restaurant on the corner) about 100 m from the main road.

Google Maps has streetview covering Pattaya also these days so you can find more details and directions there.

Cheers

I ate dinner at Mulligans on Beach Road outside of the Central Festival mall, I'd never been to Mulligans before because it always struck me as the kind of Irish pub you'd find at a shopping mall in a suburb of Akron, Ohio.

IMGP4342.jpg

I haven't had much luck with Irish pubs outside of Ireland, but there a few good ones in Boston and New York City. I wouldn't have gone this evening, either, if it hadn't been for a friend who wanted to eat there. He wanted a break from Thai food and had heard the "pub grub" at Mulligans was good.

So despite my aversion to imitation Irish pubs, I ventured into Mulligans to keep my friend company. Happy to say, the bowl of Irish stew I got was excellent. A substantial portion with a lot of perfectly cooked chunks of lamb in a tasty gravy. A simple dish, but done as it should be.

IMGP4332.jpg

Since the stew had been so good, I decided to try the bread and butter pudding. I stretched my luck with that one, though. A nice presentation but it looked better than it tasted. In fact, it didn't taste much of anything but sweet, Only two raisins and not the slightest hint of nutmeg.Very little custard sauce and it had been mucked up with what seemed to be straight-from-the-bottle Hershey's chocolate sauce. A travesty!

IMGP4340.jpg

IMGP4337.jpg

It wasn't cheap. I imagine the location added 15% to 20% to the prices. The Irish stew cost 420 baht, the pudding 150 baht and a SML 130 baht (more than you pay in a lot of go go bars). I'll probably go back to eat the Irish stew again or try the shepherd's pie, but it won't become a regular haunt. I can't comment on Mulligans qualities as a pub as I was there early (about 5 p.m.) and most of the customers were sitting outside.

I got a tuna sandwich from the Central Food Hall in the basement of the Central Festival Mall for my dinner tonight. It was very tasty and filling. It was a huge sandwich, about 5" thick. The slices of "muesli bread" were a nice touch, as the dried fruit and nuts in the bread complemented the tuna, diced veggies and fresh lettuce very well.

They had a two-for-one special at 129 baht, so the sandwich was a bargain at 64.50 b. Good selection of other sandwiches as well.

Last night's supper at the Butcher's Arms on Soi Bukhao:

For me, chicken tikka masala with rice pillau.

IMG_5370a.jpg

My friend (from the U.S., no less) chose cottage pie.

Image-Flat-5.jpg

And both of us had pints of Heineken at 100 baht. Very fresh draft (as it should be).

IMG_5062a.jpg

Reasonable prices for the food, if not cheap. Chicken tikka masala and cottage pie were both 230 baht (plus 45 baht for my rice pillau). They had fish 'n chips as the daily special at 195 baht.

My friend's Thai lady had tom yum gai.  It was her birthday and he asked the waiter to put a candle on a dessert of some kind, as there was no cake on the menu.  But the waiter got a small cake from somewhere - and there was no charge for it!

The Deluxe Burger at Dicey Reilly's:

post-9139-0-41787000-1401642403.jpg

It consists of a thick patty of meat, cheese, bacon, tomato, onions and lettuce, topped with a fried egg. Fried mushrooms, french fries and a tiny dab of coleslaw come with it. The cost was 360 baht.

post-9139-0-02432000-1401642408.jpg

The patty was grilled nicely and the bun was properly toasted. In all, a good burger and a filling meal.
