diphenhydramine works well and no need for prescription just make sure you got a bottle of water as the air hostesses never give me

enough to cure the dry mouth

Yes diphenhydramine is known as "Ya Mao Rot" in Thailand. And two tablets will put most people to sleep good. It is an antihistamine. Also good for sleep is CPM it too is another antihistamine. Ask any pharmacist they'll know what it is. 100 4mg tabs cost 20 baht. You'll get a good sleep and both are not addictive in anyway.

When I lived in Pattaya I could buy Xanax over the counter by the box-full. 20 mg tabs. It is extremely addictive. I accidentally got hooked. Kicking it took me five days with NO SLEEP. It was hell. Benzodiazepines, like Alprazolam, Zanax, Valium, Diazepam etc... are very addictive, and the withdrawal is absolutely excruciating.

Get stilnox mate. Really recommended these sleeping tablets. It's strong shit and if you take it with no intention of going to sleep... cool shit happens. A while ago I dropped one and went for a walk in the daytime and it was like being a kiddie again. The world was wondrous and needed to be explored. 4 hours later I made it home. Another time I was close to hallucination. Everything just came alive. Just don't drive your car on them, the car feels like a dodgem car and the road seems like a slippery snake. I dumped my car after a few blocks. I couldn't do it.

If you actually want to sleep on them, I've found them to be the most effective of anything I've tried. Drop it and I'm out cold in 20 minutes. Perfect for a plane ride and the next day isn't as groggy as most other sleeping pills. I usually have no problems buying it over the counter in most pharmacies in LOS and always stock up on it.

I do enjoy Xanax too, very calming, very easy going on those little treats. But I seem to have no concept or interest in time when I'm on them and I lose half a day in what felt like minutes. I couldn't even tell you what I'd been doing in that time.

so of all the things available OTC in Thailand which is the safest to take - to calm me down and get a good sleep, but I don't want to be facing addiction troubles.

I tried Atarax 25mg (Hydroxyzine dihydrochloride) but tossed them out as they didn't do it for me. Xiemed 1.0 (Alprazolam) have a mild effect on me but I sill have Insomnia. I got some other one OTC (forget name but it's same as Zanax) and that does work well, but I read on internet that it's very addictive. So I'm very concerned about continueing with it. I also got some Valium 10Mg, took half last night and slept well but felt groggy when I first woke. Again I scared of addication with the valium.

If you were in Thailand already, I'd say just buy ambien(600 baht for 10 10mg tablets). Easy.

Where can I buy Ambien here in Thailand please? I've tried many times with no luck. I've even had trouble getting Xanax and Valium in Pattaya as of late. Bangkok is hit and miss for me too and I get the feeling they don't like selling it.

Phuket is the total opposite and easy to obtain but I've still never been able to find Ambien there. It would be nice to have a source as I suffer from Insomnia quite badly. Cheers

^ 555 yeah it's a strange little pill and hell addictive! It might have been the shit that Heath ledger died on. Maybe.

There was a push to have it banned on oz a while back but then it went quiet. Im not sure if it's still available but it was always hard to get hold of and harder to find a doctor who would willingly prescribe the shit! I remember buying about 50 pills worth over the counter in LOS a while back, no questions asked.

But yeah, be careful on it

I've used it before (zolpidem) but I've never seen it in LOS. I thought you could only get it on prescription from hospitals. If anyone knows where I can find any I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the heads up on the xanax, XANAX. Much appreciated

I know it can be difficult to find a pharmacy in BKK that will sell you valium. Is this an issue in Pattaya?

Yes.....

Don't know of any that will still pass over the counter. All the ones that did that knew me as pukka no longer will do so. Would suggest that if anyone knows of access to them that they PM the details rather than openly publish the detail to all and sundry monitoring the forums as always.

I got some 10mg Valium OTC in patts a few weeks go and took one a week ago and it sent me into shivers, I was shaking and almost having convulsions, this lasted for about 1-2 hours and then subsided. In another thread I told how I took some copy of viagra and ended up spewing violently all around my room. So I'm starting to feel a bit concerned about OTC stuff in Thailand & Lao. Maybe shit copies made in backroom labs with no quality control?

You can still get it in Oz. My doc offered it but I'd had it before and wanted something with less (potentially dangerous) side effects.

I was given Imovane (Zopiclone) which work a treat. The same, if not better than Stillnox/Ambien (Zolpidem).

Not sure if these are available for in Thailand. If you go into a pharmacy they tend to offer Temazepam (Restoril) and occasionally Alprazolam (Xanax).

I agree and as a matter of fact Tylenol PM works too believe it or not. Please see a doctor to be on the safe side too. We would like for you to make it to LOS. Be safe.

Be careful with Restoril. I like Xanax, especially when flying. 3 Xanax are almost as good as a business class upgrade, but when I had prescribed Restoril, I woke up one morning on the living room flor with no recollection of the prior evening, and several times completely disoriented, had to change prescription.

If you want to use anything on the airplane, try it at home first to make sure it works and does not cause bizarre behavior or side effects.

I refuse to believe some are having trouble sourcing Valium (diazepam) at any pharmacy anywhere in BKK or Patters. It's easily available i.e. not rare, and not a controlled drug like it is in the western world. On my travels I don't think I've ever found a pharmacy that didn't stock it and many of the other benzos.

Generic reccomendations about which is the best sleeping pill are always a bit redundant because everyone has individually based brain chemistry, not to other mention other psychological sleep habits and circadian rhythms.

Xanax can get addictive becuase of it's short half life, which means if used very frequently, it is going to lead to a rapid down-regulation of GABA recpetors - hence the nasty withdrawls. Use on rare and one-off occasions - for this it is very effective, and a great drug. The internet is littered with horror stories of people getting stuck on them for years though - don't be one of those. Bottom line, If your having persisttant Insomnia, use something else, but look at sleep habits and hygiene first. Valium hits the same receptors, but has a longer half-life, which makes it somewhat safer for short-term use but primarily as an anxiolytic and not necceasirly for Insomnia.

The anti-histamines are an option, but might not be very good if you use them regularly for their primary indication, and the side effects due to anti-cholinergic action are pretty annoying. I would never reccomend diphenhydramine.

The trcyclic anti-depressant Amitriptyline, at a low-dose(10mg), is probably the best option for persitant, acute on-set Insomnia.

Speak to a doc if your having serious issues though.
