Why can't I see any pictures?

Tried it on IE and Firefox--no pictures. However, upgraded Firefox to the Beta Version 4, and voila, all the pictures show up. Now the question to the board is why?

:001_Thank_You5:

Thanks, very, very much, alex! Now I remember that little trick, but I had forgotten about the "right click - run as admin" thing.

Using that, I was able to make the modification, and everything seems to be working (so far).

So Thanks, again! And I owe you a drink next time we're in Pattaya together. (I'll be there from the 9th of March to the 4th of April, and again in late June to a bit past mid-July. Let me know when you'll be there.)

Bakwan

You are welcome :)

And sure, we will proably meet in Pattaya in march, I'll be there from 19 of march to april 9 (very first time in Pattaya)

Hi,

Maybe you can try this :

In your start menu, find the notepad shortcut, right click on it, clic on "Run as Administrator".

Then, you will be able to open the hosts file and modify it.

For the not so computer savy (like me) are you able to list a step-by-step instruction.......

pattaya-addicts.com has three name servers listed:

pattaya-addicts.com nameserver = ns1-us.geekinasia.net.

pattaya-addicts.com nameserver = ns2-gb.geekinasia.net.

pattaya-addicts.com nameserver = ns2-us.geekinasia.net

The first two are giving the same response (reversed):

=========================================================

DNS server handling your query: ns1-us.geekinasia.net

DNS server's address: 96.9.152.208#53

Name: media.pattaya-addicts.com

Address: 93.189.106.209

Name: media.pattaya-addicts.com

Address: 93.189.106.210

---------------------------------------------------------

DNS server handling your query: ns2-gb.geekinasia.net

DNS server's address: 78.129.149.163#53

Name: media.pattaya-addicts.com

Address: 93.189.106.210

Name: media.pattaya-addicts.com

Address: 93.189.106.209

---------------------------------------------------------

The third is not responding.

Guessing here ...

I am guessing that pattaya-addicts.com is running on "mirrored" servers.

The idea being that one fails the other will take over.

For www.pattaya-addicts.com both active DNS servers respond with:

Name: www.pattaya-addicts.com

Address: 93.189.106.209

The other address (93.189.106.210) brings up:

"Welcome to Kamagra UK, are the leading UK based company specialising in the local supply of quality assured generic medicines manufactured by Ajanta Pharma based in India."

One theory shot all to H#LL.

==============================================

For Windows XP the file you want is located in:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

It is named HOSTS (Notice that there is NO extension).

Right click on it and slect "Open".

Windows will normally ask what program to use to open it:

select NOTEPAD

Edit the file to look like this:

========================================

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

93.189.106.209 www.pattaya-addicts.com

93.189.106.209 media.pattaya-addicts.com

93.189.106.209 pattaya-addicts.com

==========================================

The "#" symbol indicates the line is a "remark" and is ignored.

Save it and "most" of the image problems should go away ...

I still have a few that are not showing up.

If you aren't a web master and you would like to see pics ... you can try to upgrade the firefox 4 Beta version ... or using some X ray lens

now that the problem has been sorted, those folk that made changes to their hosts file should comment those lines out.

Yep, the workaround did the job, and now the fix is in I've deleted the extra lines from my 'host' file - everything's working fine.

Thanks very much to the guys for the workarounds and the fix, your work is much appreciated.

Cheers
