Free minutes from your mobile or house phone to an access number and you're on to 1/2p a minute from UK to Thai mobile. A1 quality. Some of the cards give some cracking deals as well but not everyone has a shop that sells them. Hope this helps you phone addicts out. Cheers, Som

New service just started this year.

Check out the website for full info. www.magicjack.com

I had vonage for 4 years and saw this and decided to do the free 30 day trial offer.

I have had it for about 2 months and it works great.

The best part is there is no monthly bill or Limit to the amount of calls in USA or Canada.

The price really is $39.99 for the first year// Then $19.99 every year after that. Unlimited calling with no per minute charge.

Can also make cheap international calls. I used last week to call from USA to Bangkok and call was crystal clear.

Can be taken to thailand and other countries and call back to the USA for free.

It is about half the size of a credit card and plugs into any usb port.

It can be used by any phone, analog or digital or talk on your computer with a headset or forward calls to your cell phone.

Check it out www.magicjack.com

Ok guys... here's the thing.

Up to now I have been using sood sood (thai version of skype) it's ok but due to my poor internet connection the call quality is bad and I often doent even get connected.

It seems that all the mobile networks have locked down the "Access Numbers" available (vodafone want 35p per min to 0844 numbers and are not included in free minutes) I don't have access to a landline while I am at work (most of the time)

I'm reluctant to buy phone cards because I dont want to have to use the minutes up in a limited amount of time.

Anyone got any ideas how I can call thailand cheaply?

Hi guys im in australia and don't have a landline just a mobile so i found the best for me, from my mobile to a thai mobile, is with telstra asia packs not cheap but the best i could find.

I don't call much, thank god, but for $20 you get 80 mins talk time.

I use skype on my computer & the cost is minimal with good quality. I use a phone card with my mobile also, but that is nowhere as cheap because normal mobile charges apply.

With skype I talk to my girl for 30-40 minutes in a realaxed sort of way, because I know it is only a small cost.

Be careful with your computer security though if you have a snoopy missus.

For me calling from the US...

Skype runs about $0.12/minute to a mobile

SoodSood runs about $0.03/minute to a mobile

I don't have many problems with quality with either, just every once in a while I'll get a poor connection. Just hang up and call back and it's fine. Obviously I use the cheaper one.

Try VOIP discount. Charge your minutes for 10 pounds. First 90 or 120 days unlimited free calling to Thailand and several other countries. Then normal rates apply (not sure what normal rates are). Great if you call every day.

Hello, one to try from UK-Thailand www.securecalls.co.uk about 4p a min 18 mths ago, don't know what they charge now though.

And to you Canadians try www.vox.ca and I have the vox asia card which is 1.9 cents a min to mobiles in Thailand. There is a 29 cent connection fee but that fee gives you the first 15 mins, not on top of the call per min charge. Also you can buy a card online (pin numbers) and recharge it online.

Can any USA members tell me a cheap card for calling Thailand from call phones (not mobiles) in the US.

Thanks Neil.

Quite why anyone would pay 4p a minute is beyond me, unless the call quality is excellent. there are LOADS of other companies offering better deals

Look at 18185.co.uk for calls to Thailand for 1p a minute, both landlines AND moblies, 0.5p a minute to places like USA, Aus etc.

Best deal is zero pence a minute to UK national landlines.

You can even register a mobile phone with them for SMS text messages at 3p a pop

No bad grammer or spelling mistakes here !!!!

For those guys calling from Saskatchewan, Canada, just use Sasktel (our phone company). They were getting the shit kicked out of them by all the VOIP companies, so they lowered their rates. To call a Thai cell is 5 cents a minute, and a Thai landline is 3 cents a minute, all rounded to the nearest second.

I have been calling Thailand for a good time and Dialwise is consistently the best for cost and connection from the UK.

1p a minute from landline there is a connection fee but minimal

And mobile to mobile it works out at about 20p a minute.

08448615050 and 0066 delete the 0 and add the number then press hash....easy

anyone advise me on cheaper and i would be a happier man, cheers.

I used to use dialwise, but found a cheaper option with better connection. It works out to 0.02p per minute and comes out of your free minutes on the mobile deal as they give you a local number to call, not an 0844 number. It's Rebtel - you have to put a few quid on an account using a debit/credit card, but it's easy and it lasts for ever, and I call Thailand for at least 30 mins every day.

I use localphone which has just increased its rate to 1p a ninute. this is to both thai mobile and landline. the best thing about this deal is after registering you get a local landline number which is 01 or 02 number so is free to call from your home phone or inclusive minutes on your mobile. If like me you have a mobile contract with unlimited landline minutes you can effectively chat forever for 1p a minute.

0.02p a minute is 2p a minute which is not cheaper than dialwise at 0.01p a minute which unless i'm completely thick is 1p a minute. i used to use rebtel but i found local phone to be cheaper and the connection 1st class. :)

Nenarrob, thanks for the link. Just started using them and finding it very easy to use especially as they give you a direct dial for each of your contacts. No need to remember any account, pin info as you get a direct 02 number to dial for each contact you add.

At the suggestion of Whitespider I would like all BMs to post in this thread the best ways they know of to call Thailand. I would like to make a comprehensive list of as many different ways/companies to use from as many different countries as possible. Many of us are using cheap ways to phone and sometimes that comes with mixed results. So if you are going to rate things like quality of service or connection quality we should try and stick to a similar formula - poor, fair, ok, good, great. That will give us a simple formula for determining if the quality is worth saving a couple of pennies or if spending more gets us the quality we would prefer.

I would like to see maximum participation with this as it can be a big help to everyone and it is a topic which will come up frequently. I will bump the topic to the top regularly.

Hello all. If I have posted this stuff before...forgive me. If you are from the states the BEST calling card to call Thailand is the nobel card....I have tried many many cards over the years, the winner is the nobelcom.com card by a mile from the states. Easy to recharge on the internet, on the phone.. or from any Family Mart store if you are in Thailand. It seems to cost me about 1.2 cents a minute to call from US to any thai mobile or thai home phone. The voice quality seems to be very good 90% of the time....samuijim

Imagine you are cold up there now. Just got home. No snow and golfing here but not real warm.

Best deal I've found for calling is 7/11 phone cards. They have a few different ones but I use the World Card. 10.7 cents a minute and no access charges. Canada and US is only 3.9 cents. I use them for everything now. Can't beat it.

I'm with Telus for my cell and they have a plan that for $2 I can add a text messaging packaging to my caller id plan. It gives me 100 texts a month to anywhere in the US and Canada. These are normally 15 cents each. When I text Thailand they credit me 15 cents for each one so only charge me 5 cents a text as they are normally 20 cents each. After 100 you pay the 20 cents.

The boys here love the pictures of my judging at the FLB.

Forgot to add that when you use your cell phone for the long distance calls you only are charged local time plus the 10.7 cents. Most of us have plans with more minutes than we use each month so really doesn't cost any more from my cell or at home.

Was texting a girl after my hockey game a couple nights ago. Got messages back right away. Impressed the boys! Told them no stories this year though as they can't keep their mouths shut.

i take it you're from canada since you have telus.

i gotta ask whats the dial code to and from canada to thailand? need to know before my trip before i get stuck there and cant call home

FROM THE UK, USE PHONECARDS.

With the Orange network, you can get 'free landline calls' with certain contracts. I get 2000 Landline minutes as a bolt on with th 3 network (phone and ask.

Then you can buy international phonecards from Newsagents, these are great as they turn The landline call into an international call (0207 is a london landline exchange).

HI THERE MY WIFE CALLS HER MUM IN THAILAND AND SHE USES I CARD COST £5.00- £10.00 GIVES HER ABOUT 3000 MINS TO CALL THAI MOBILE

To my knowledge most cards 'leak' everyday, that is once used they drop 13-20/every day. I use the Unite card, it's limited to £5, but does not leak. I phone the lady for about an hour everyday and i have never had too buy 2 in a week.

REMEMBER, if you get free landline calls or like me get 2000 Landline minutes as part of your contract, this is the best way to go.
