My Financial Adviser is sure that the pound will be devalued next year......If that happens we will be lucky to get 34bht to the pound!

Quite the opposite of what someone else said yesterday about the Thai government talking about devaluing the Baht.

Time will tell but I'm glad he is your financial advisor not mine.

my arse the pound will be devalued, there are no financial reasons for it to happen. Debt to GDP is about 10% with a 4 year plan to reduce substantially

Ireland is 30% debt to GDP, Greece, well Greece and Spain and Portugal are over 20% debt to GDP

So what reasons has your financial advisor given that it will happen?

First of all, nobody, and I mean nobody knows for sure if the pound will be devalued. If your advisor knew that for sure, he'd be selling all his assets for cash and shorting the pound.

Second of all, the reason why the pound would be devalued is because your economy depends on it. The U.K. is the second most debtor nation in the world currency (debt-to-GDP ratio), and the expensive pound will not help you get out of debt. The U.K. needs to attract more business, and the way countries do that is by lowering currencies.

What do you call the 30% fall we have already seen over the last 2 years - its already happened.

Sure you have not got the wrong end of the stick, with more talk about an overvalued Thai Baht and what the Thai Central Bank may or may not do about it.

Thailand has no reason to devalue their baht. Tourism makes up 6-8 percent of the country's income. Sure they may benefit a bit more for exports, but hurts them on imports. Also, Thailand does not carry a national debt. They pay it off every year. From the countries point of view, the baht is sitting right where it probably should be (for importing and exporting).

OK enough of the reasons but lets go with this.

2011 & 34 baht to the pound.

£100 changed would give you 3,400 baht.

All I can say is if this happens to be the case I am in the shit & Thailand would be so expensive I would be pissed of.

I think that AC & the Philippines would be more attractive by the second.

If it was 34 baht to the pound guys you would find Thailand more expensive than the UK to live holiday & fuck.

I would hate to think what this would do to the P4P & C4C economy from a British angel.

Now I do not like this thread its making me feel sick.

My financial adviser told me that by June 2011 the dollar, pound, euro, and yen will have all bottomed out to the point that virtually no one from these countries will be able to afford international travel. He also predicts that Chinese men will be coming in droves to OUR countries to bang American, English & Japanese women while the men of these countries taxi them around in order to fuel their motorbikes and drinking/drug habits. Oh...the irony...

I first came to Thailand in 1984 and we got 32 baht to the pound back then, a hundred quid bought you 3,200 baht. I only came the one time and never returned till 1999 because it was just too expensive at 32 to the pound. Who would have thought it possible that the pound would be only worth 46 baht when we were getting 70 - 75 baht to the pound a few short years ago.

Thanks for your input & some great points there mate.

Lets say we changed £100 Sterling & got 3,600 baht, with todays prices with regards to Women, beer, hotels & general Holiday spends just how would you afford it & how would the split of your budjet be ??????

I have found 46 baht to the pound to be difficult & bloody poor but if it did go the other way just what the fuck would us guys do ?????

At 36 baht to the pound a 1,000 baht would be £28. :Circle_Sharks:

Lets pray guys.

Thailand is trying to reduce the speed with which its value is increasing. Business community is asking for it http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/economics/201654/rate-cut-viewed-as-tonic-for-baht. Government has also taken some steps to limit this growth, but it is understood that it will have minimal impact.

You are correct to say that tourism is a small percentage of total national revenue, but with increase in investment, its other business communities who want baht to get back to more that 30 baht to a dollar.

Wiki:

"Cultural milieu combined with poverty and the lure of money have caused prostitution and sex tourism in particular to flourish in Thailand. One estimate published in 2003 placed the trade at US$4.3 billion per year or about three percent of the Thai economy"

I would say the main reason the pound and dollar are so low is because interest rates at 0.5%.

As soon as the interest rates start climbing and making the currency harder to get,or less of it, the value will start climbing back up to the Asian markets.
