NON 0 is either retirement visa or other(traveling to be with family or friends) how exactly do you put a work permit if your purpose of travel is retirement or being with family?

Visa would need to be changed to NON B before work permit can be applied.

PS. There has been a number of changes to the visa rules since 2008

I have been following visa rules both before and after 2008 and you can still get a work permit with a non 'O' visa today.

Exceprt: A Non-immigrant O Visa is generally for people married to a Thai national or with Thai children or dependants. This works in basically the same way as a Non-imm B. Although if you can show funds in a Thai bank account (400,000 baht) or show sufficient proof of local or overseas income to prove that you can support your family, the immigration can indefinitely extend your Visa for up to 12 months. A work permit can now be obtained on a Non-imm O (it couldn’t before 2006)

Oh ok, i see, cheers.

As it stated on the site, company's either do not know about this or do not want to go through the hassles.

I do all my visa's through a law firm and they would not touch NON O when it comes to WP or anything else related.

I have a feeling it is not as simple as NON B, but never had O, so can not comment

There are three sides to every argument: your side, my side and the right side.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

I worked in Bangkok for a while last year on temporary work permits. One day I went to immigration with my company's visa specialist. Immigration told him that the non-immigrant - O visa that I had could not be converted to a work permit and only a B visa could.

No visa can be converted to a work permit; they are two very different beasts. BTW work permits are not issued by immigration, but by the ministry of labour. Maybe you were trying to convert your 'O' visa to a 'B' which I think is not allowed.

You cannot get a 1 year extension of stay based on an employment contract with an 'O' visa, only with a 'B'. However, you can get a 1 year extension of stay with an 'O' visa based on marriage, then obtain a work permit.

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

You are nit picking. I was trying to get a work permit while in Thailand on a type O visa and it was a no go. The guy that I was with knows how it works as he is there every other day and knows the people there. Maybe it was the Ministry of Labout where we went but there is no way I was trying to convert an O to a B.

Hi Edge, Im sorry but the site is www.pattayacityexpatsclub.com sorry to put you wrong and I was not sure how to insert link

look under visas / retirement , thats where I copied the tip sheet from, cheers :)

I asked the guys I consider to be experts on this and they said :-

First said :- YES, but it should be done immediately upon return to Thailand. There is a limited window of opportunity and not all immigration offices will accommodate you. Best to arrive back equipped with a Non "O" visa.

Second said :- A non immigrant entry can be obtained for retirement at immigration if meeting the extension of stay requirements but it may have to be done in Bangkok

The way I read that is that it's an option available to Immigration which may or may not be given depending upon circumstances (and maybe a tip?).

Basically, if you fcuk up eg. forget to get a Re-entry Permit before you go out, and come in on Visa Exemption, then you need to get straight down to Immigration and hope for the best.

I think it would be wrong to advise that it's a new routine anyone can go for at this stage.

Anyway, as I said before, with Tourist Visas being free, why would you risk the hassle?

Not really nit picking; just a clarification.

On what basis was your 'O' obtained? One obtained on the basis of visiting friends, retirement or voluntary work etc explicitly do not allow you to work.

Also, remember TiT. You may have been unlucky & got the wrong incompetent official or not given him enough biscuits.

Out of interest, how were you able to obtain a temporary WP?

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

It is my understanding that no non-immigrant visa allows you to work.

The industry that I am in has a special facility for temporary work permits.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi guys,

basically I'm looking to apply to Hull for a multiple-entry Non-Immigrant 12 month visa. I'm looking to travel around the country and spend extended time celebrating reaching the grand old age of 30!! (Reach this beauty in April!!).

As you've probably gathered I'm 29 and looking mainly to spend my time soaking up the Thai culture I've come to love on my last 2 trips (both for 3 weeks a piece).

What are the best reasons to put on my visa application and what evidence do I need to show?

I have about 250k baht in the bank and getting some dosh off my folks for my birthday (will already be in Thailand then).

Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated :)

Thanks

Send me PM for real "EASY" visa

Yes, but some non-imm visas explicitly bar you from working.

Thanks for the info.

  • 5 months later...

Looks like the rules have changed and not easy to get a multiple 'O' from the Hull consulate any more. They now require documentary evidence!

Im told they will accept a lease agreement stating i will be renting a condo out there but difficult to get from the UKbut im trying....
