Who has been stopped by Thai customs coming into BKK

I've never been stopped but I think the reason is that I fly direct from LHR (UK). But beware, I know two chaps who stocked up on cigarettes in the Middle East at places like Dubai and got huge fines on their arrival at BKK airport. They had attempted to bring about 2000 fags into Thailand and it cost them about 40,000 baht each! That certainly made a nasty dent in their spending money.

Have you been stopped? Do you know someone who has?

Why do you think the chose to search you?

What were they looking for? How thorough was the search?

Lets her em guys.

( i am thinking of bringing some amyl nitrite with me in january. i have emailed thai customs and get no reply, i have emailed the thai consulate in sydney and get no answers )

In recent times ,(last 10 or 12 years), I have not ever been searched or questioned other than do I have anything to declare....I normally pre empt them by flashing my U.S.Coast Guard ID (retired) along with my passport...Usually professional courtesy prevails and they let me pass with a smile... We kind of do the same for them when they fly in and out of Guam, Hawaii, or other parts of the US. Especially since we have run joint ops and trained many of their Customs,Police, Navy, etc...

The second topic you mentioned about importing certain substances is very risky and as others have said you would be better off just getting a new prescription locally upon arrival...(what ever the intended purpose may be)...

I might also add that I believe in travelling light with no chked baggage....Just a backpack and briefcase... Makes it eisier for me to beat the crowds and be home in my

apartment sooner...( normally live in Bangkok while in country.) www.snakephoto.blogspot.com

i was stopped about a year ago, the chap met me in the corridor just after i got off the plane . he checked my hand luggage , my bag was stuffed with clothes and when he realised this he just closed the bag , handed it back and was pleasent enough.

i guess he was looking fags (cigerettes , i mean!}

Could someone say what amount of cigs and booze you are allowed to bring in? :Circle_Sharks:

Definitely 200 max for cigarettes & I think 1 litre / bottle for spirits.

Beware if you are in transit. There are many complicated rules which differ from airport to airport. Obviously cigarettes can be stored in your checked baggage, but check the rules for bringing spirits as part of your hand luggage. Mumbai airport, for example, is one which applies the rules inconsistently, but then that's Mumbai airport all over. :Greetings9:

Peace. :Hit_Self:

I do the same. The military ID is handed over with my passport and I have never had any problems. I also have a TSA-TWIC card that works wonders at US airports.

I was stopped once and had a mate stopped once.

My story first

the wanted to xRAY the bags, what they were looking for is just a guess, but i would say over the limit cigs or bottles. Funny enough they only xray the big bags not the hand luggage.

Every trip i been bringing 2 bottles and 2 cartoons of cigs, but keeping 1 bottle and 1 cartoon in the big bag and 1 set in t he hand luggage. I also found another trick, when walking out, pretend to be talking on the phone, for some reason they do not bother to even look at you.

My mates story.

He came back from China and had 2 cartoons of cigs, they took 1 cartoon and fined him US$400

There are three sides to every argument: your side, my side and the right side.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

Can't understand why anyone bothers to take cigarettes to thailand,

they're so dam cheap there.

Cigarettes are cheaper in 7/11 LOS than they are in duty free in Australia.

Not everyone shops in Australia :GoldenSmile1:

He was coming from China, so it must of been even more cheap than Thailand.

Also not all brands are available in 7/11

Perfect example is Davidoff, only available in Duty Free no other shop, besides Tony's Disco where he charges 400 baht per pack
