Hi guys:

Just thought I would give you a short write up of my discussions with PBR. On their website they have advertised a monthly rate that covers both high and low seasons. When I requested a quote for a 70 day period during high season I was informed that they do not have a monthly rate during that time and that the price would be the same as for nightly. That being said my total would have been 160,930 Baht plus electric and water. Sure hope these folks don't expect to make their money with these rates. Just a friendly warning if you are looking at them for a long stay... NO WAY!!!

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

On there website it states

There are no monthly rates for Deluxe, Mini-Suites, One Bedrooms or the Presidential Suite - only daily rates.

They do however do monthly rates on their standard rooms

monthly Rates (30 days or longer)

Low Season

15 April - 31 October

High Season

01 November - 14 April

Standard Room (King size bed & balcony) 14,900.00 * 21,985.00 *

I actually do not like this place. its in a decent location though. i've stayed here on both of my last 2 trips. this last time sucked in the sense that the internet was slow and would disconnect. i was also on the floor underneath the pool so ever morning you would get woken up when they drag the chairs across the floor. and the wall are paper thin. on the plus side the staff is nice and helpful and the owner seems like a nice guy. I'm a light sleeper so this place will not work for me in the future. oh and the price is not that good for what you get in my opinion for thailand

i have stayed at the PBR for my last 5 trips and LOVE IT...admittedly, my longest stay so far was 3 weeks, so the long-term rates havent applied...and I always stay in the Std. Room which is fine with me...always 999 baht with the 7th night free!!! that makes it about 850/night...and for what you get (new, clean, pool, good location) you cant beat it IMHO.

If you want a bump up the scale, I also like the LK Ren on soi Diana, but ONLY in the summer when I have gotten a walk-up rate of 1200baht/night (again, just a room, not a suite).

If anyone finds a NEW hotel with pool that can be had for 1000 baht...please let me know...but the only ones ive ever seen are the OLD tired places on soi 13 or out beyond Central, too far for me...I dont want to stay beyond soi Diana.

Cheers, Alex

I have only stayed at PBR one time, but am looking at staying again in June. I thought service there was great, internet worked better there than other places I have stayed (at least for duration of my stay), room was good for price, and liked having option of going up to pool on top deck and enjoying a beer or two up there in the afternoon when I was not trolling. I will admit that walls were kind of thin, could hear moans of pleasure or pain on some nights.....but I just put another pillow over my head and went back to sleep.....of course, if you drink enough to pass out then you don't have to worry about the sounds of good times coming from other rooms......

The only big negative (for me) about PBR was just distance from places I enjoy going to. I love Walking Street.....and PBR is a little ways away. Not a huge deal when you are sober, but if you have had a few, getting back to PBR can be a pain in the rear.

I think that shite internet is unfair to pin on the hotel.

Either got a local problem or someone dling a load of filth etc

I work online here and sometimes it gets bad for days/weeks at a time. Users who use it less probably dont notice.

Their website does seem to imply that monthly rates are available during high season, but I always thought it was low season only. I stayed there once and my impressions echo those of jim2k - I also stayed on the top floor and suffered from early morning noise from the pool chairs and restaurant. The hotel wasn't too busy when I stayed there, so apart from one dickhead cranking music up, not a lot of noise from others. The staff, however were excellent. I suspect that with maximum occupancy it may not be the best base in Pattaya.

If you read their site, monthly rates are available during both high and low season. But, they are only available for the standard room, not any of the others. It is stated in plain English on their website. No deceit/scam/overcharging/bait and switch going on.

Everybody has an occasional internet problem. It is just part of the charm of staying in Thailand. Internet, electricity, water can all be difficult at times. It happens at my home and businesses.

Which, of course, is exactly what I stated. The reason I stated that I thought otherwise is that, on asking reception staff during my last stay, I was told "no monthly discount in high season" - without mention of standard rooms being exempt. I was led to believe that they wanted to maximise income in the high season.

You guys are right internet issues are mostly likely a carrier but on there website they talk about there internet having 2 different carriers in order to provide reliable service. and i have stayed there before on the fourth floor and it was not bad then. so most likely it's the access points on the floors.

I will say the staff is great and the breakfast is not bad, also the location is not bad. I myself just can not handle the noise.

My laptop never shuts off and I found the internet at PBR to be spotty . I,m not sure why but the internet at the LK renaisance was seamless . In a 2 week stay it never went down and the speed was great

I stayed at PBR in low season and thought it was good value for money.

In high season less so - however when the hotel was booked solid from December through to March you can't expect much of a deal. It says alot about the place when they are busy and all around are half full.

I found somewhere else at Xmas and was happy - what price you put on good staff, good management, free internet, in room safes, good security, no rip offs and decent food is your call - if you don't think its worth anything then stay somewhere cheaper.

I had no issues with the internet when I was there. I will say I think the deluxe room is not really anything better than the regular room, but other than that it is a great place in a great location. At least for the cost.

Hopefully i can get an answere here without starting a new topic...

When checking the maps it seems like this hotel doesnt have a great location atall.

It seems like a long walk to LK Metro area or up to Soi Baukhaow to grab a Bathbus, walk through the mall to get to 2nd road seems ok but when does the mall close? If it closes pretty early isnt it a drag to get to hotel in the night if coming from WS or Soi 6/7/8 area?

Ive read about the "free" bathbus service at hotel - can one use it to go to LK Metro or just up to Baukhaow road? or anywhere in Pattaya?

Anyone have time and knowledge and want to be nice and explain abit more i would be glad.

Thanks in advance

/Mike

8mb is now in Pattaya, I guess it wont be long til all the hotels have it and sort out these slow downs. When you were at LK renaissance, weren't you the only one on the floor? The pattaya bay resort only has one room empty most of the time?

Location is quite convenient. Walk straight out of the hotel and through the Avenue and you're on Second Rd. in less than one minute. It is an open air style mall, so there are no doors that lock; just walk through the middle of the building 24 hours a day. Even more convenient is Villa Market in the Avenue; it's open 24 hours and will sell alcohol all night long. The free Tuktuk takes you down Soi 15 to Soi Buakhow or Second Rd, but no further. Where the Tuktuk drops you off at Soi Buakhow is only about a one minute walk to LK Metro, two minutes if you walk slowly.

That is really on the pricey side and I am sure that for 10 weeks you could find a great place for half of this.

Never been the case before - from their website

Q: Is there an additional charge for joiners/over-night guests?

A: All of our rates quoted are for 1 or 2 persons sharing the same room. Therefore, if a single guest brings back a joiner, there is no additional fee. If you have a third person in the room, there is an additional charge of 500 baht per person, per night.
