Hey guy just adding some info

I just got back from pulse clinic doing an HIV test(Negative BTW). and i also tested for Chlamydia. the doc wanted me to test for Mycoplasma Genitalium as she said it is starting to creep up in pattaya. reason being that it sets up in the throat but does not have any real symptoms so it is transferred through Oral sex. I do not have any discharge or burning when i pee so i declined but i do go back in 60 days for another final hiv test. i may test for it then

23,000 baht??? Bumrungrad is some expensive hospital! I went to Pattaya City Hospital, consultation with a Doctor, STD tests, and then treatment. All for less than 1,500 baht!

I am glad that I have a travel health insurance that cover all medical fees.

You should also be aware that many Thai clinics only do gonorrhea and chlamydia tests. Other less common STDs are not covered by these cheap tests.

The recommended method of testing for sexually transmitted infections is the nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT-PCR). It has a high level of sensitivity and accuracy. And it is more reliable than a culture test (old and cheap diagnosis technique).

What infections can be detected by the DNA NAAT-PCR Test?

Chlamydia trachomatis

Neisseria gonorrhoeae

richomonas vaginalis

Mycoplasma hominis

Mycoplasma genitalium

Ureaplasma urealyticum

Ureaplasma parvum

Herpes Simplex Virus type I

Herpes Simplex Virus type II

Treponema pallidum (which causes syphilis)

Haemophilus ducreyi (which causes chancroid)

Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Varicella-Zoster Virus

By clinics.. are you referring to the ones without doctors?

If you have symptoms, I would prefer a hospital so they can diagnose and get you the proper tests.

The clinics are more for preventative care and you can select different packages to test. I only get the major tests.

A latest update which others may find useful.

The most effective current treatment for drug resistant Mycoplasma Genitalium...from a study by the Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic in 2020. 11/12 cases cured/cleared.

Doxycycline 2 x 100mg per day

AND

Sitafloxacin 2 x 100mg per day (new drug not well-known)

Doxy + Zithro, no effect.

Doxy + Moxifloxacin, same

Doxy + Clarithromycin, too.

Taken sequentially didn't work.

Those carefree bareback days seem to be ending. I may have to take up Golf and lawn bowls.

Be careful statistically more people die playing lawn bowls than any other sport...

My boy a expat caught this in Pattaya a couple years ago. Nothing would work he had to go through all kinds of diff antibiotics. After like 6 months of trying everything he found a disease specialist in BKK that ordered some drug from France that you cant get here. Really really strong I think its a cancer drug or something but its basically the last line of what you can use and it completely ravaged him when he used it.

Anyways it did end up working for him in the end. I think he still BBs but not to the same level as he used do.

Did it really take that long to get cleared up? And did Doxy+Sitafloxacin prove ineffective? I'm glad you finally knocked it down.

Doxy + Sita ineffective, then waited 3 months to see if cleared naturally.

Mino + Metro worked.

It's only a minor discharge no other side effects. Dr reckons MG has been around for a long time just never tested.

I had it from a BJ. Confirmed with PCR test from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. 7 days of Moxifloxacin wiped it out. PCR test / urologist, 5700 baht. Moxifloxacin around 1000 baht.

I have it from a BJ too. I'm currently on day 6 of a 7-day course of Moxifoxicin (which is a potent drug.. it's having some unpleasant effects on me).

Did you do a follow up test? Apparently you're supposed to follow up after 4-5 weeks, as there is some chance it may come back.

I'm debating with myself at the moment whether I should go back to the doc and ask for another course of Moxifloxacin to extend to 10 or 14 days (which, depending on what you read, is sometimes used rather than 7-days). If the fucking thing comes back and I have to start at the beginning again I'll be kicking myself for not extending the current dose enough to knock it on the head now completely.

A bit late for this reply, but I would probably have tried to follow up with a different antibiotic like Doxycycline(?) for 7 days if you wanted to be extra sure. Always check with doctor or do careful research on mixing antibiotics, as not all are tolerated well if you stop one then start another the next day.

I would wait at least 3-4 weeks before retesting, as you might get false positives. Frustratingly you might have residual symptoms for up to a month after successful treatment of some of the lesser known bacteria - with low intensity symptoms (general discomfort) that don't seem to be improve right until the end. To be specific, the symptoms may fully clear while taking the antibiotics, then rebound somewhat after you stop - but that doesn't necessarily mean the treatment failed. This really messes with your head being unsure if it's resolved, and whether you need to start more treatment or wait another few weeks.

They got it from BJ and i'm sure that most people, including myself, aren't going to use a condom for BJ...

Medical support for this claim ?

Please.

There is some evidence that peeing can help prevent a UTI but as for an STI , no. My doctor laughed when I asked him if peeing after sex prevented Gon.

I take these dramatic-sounding headlines designed to scare you with a grain of salt.  The same rules that apply to everything else apply here.  Don't believe everything you read on the internet and do your own research.

Many people have m.gen without any symptoms. In my country, they actually advise against treating it unless you are symptomatic. The body will get rid of it on it's own after a while, and it has a high resistance aganst antiobitic treatments

I'm glad the both of you got cured. Also, thanks for the heads-up about this disease. I did not know about it.

I'm contemplating taking up regular STD checks on a more regular basis. Not every month, of course, but perhaps 2 times per year - irrespective of not having symptoms. I don't mind paying Bangkok Hospital fee's whenever issues do occur, but perhaps one could take the aforementioned tests at a place with lower price(s). Any suggestions?
