Haha! See famous Gary Lineker quote :GoldenSmile1:

How bad are have the Germany team been? I haven't had a chance to see them yet. But plan to tonight.

You might be right - I was actually at the Italia World Cup '90 semi final penalty shoot out.

Seen all the others from behind the sofa.

I'm not sure I could take another one.

They are a pale shadow of the German sides of old.

But they are Germany in a competition - nuff said.

Damn my foolish optimism. My heart shall be broken again!

I keep trying to remind myself of 1-5 in Munich when even Heskey scored - but that was just a group game, not a one-off.

This is far more important for most English Poms than the Ashes.

Not the sheer hatred of an Argentina clash - but so much baggage.

Interesting and scary statistic that was true up until just a few years ago.

Not only had Germany never lost a penalty shoot - out, they had never missed a single penalty in a shoot - out!

They have missed a couple recently.

Here in the UK,our wonderful media are managing to show Southgate’s penalty miss,to fill us with confidence, every 45 seconds!!!

I will never forgive Heskey for that - but for all the wrong reasons :)

I had Germany 1 - England 4 in a Cricket Club sweepstake - a no hoper but a win pot of around 800 quid.

I couldn't believe it when the twunt went and knocked that 5th in 555. How inconsiderate :):)

Re tonights game

I'd say its 50/50 - with luck the (minimal) home advantage might carry us.

Really hoping to see Sancho start as he knows the German players etc (or many of them) plus I read both Klinsmann and Mathaus saying the Germans 'fear" him and would double team him, making space somewhere at least.

Like most I pray not penalties.

Good point :GoldenSmile1:
Well, I'll be villain here and admit I'm rooting for Germany (which is rare for a Dane.) I was 7-8 years old when I became a fan. So it's not as evil as it might sound.

Could be fun around Nirun Condos tonight. Plenty of both breeds there.

As much as I love all things Australian, I got to get me action of the asian persuasian.

When it comes to the knock out stages it is really a cup final every game and form can go out of the window.

Mental strength is also important - somethings at which the German's often excel.

Fingers firmly crossed that Kalvin Phillips - the Yorkshire Pirlo - has a game to remember.

PS: I'm old enough to remember 1966 and the 3-2 we should have won in Mexico in 1970.

I hope we get after them.

They’re vulnerable at the back and we need to take the breaks off both in selection and in approach and get after them.

I hope Greasy starts and he plays in the middle. Dislike the vile Villa but he is one heck of a player, Englands best IMO.
