Noticed today that the longstanding Surprise Rib Shack, just off Soi Buakhao, is being demolished.

Sure I read somewhere, they were moving to the Darkside?

Heard they have moved to Sukhumvit Soi 44.

Took a look at a new Thai BBQ place at the north end of Thappraya Rd. on the west side, 150 meters from the flyover.  Lots of long tables with BBQs on the ends and refrigerators with sliding glass tops for easy food access. They opened Feb. 21

If anyone fancies running a French restaurant then L’Auberge is for sale.

Problem is it's location...terrible for traffic and parking at times.

It’s not that long since they moved to the current location. There is a car park for customer use, though the road is a very busy one.

Carpark shared with the apartments--many times full. Anyway parking not the real problem just the location near the intersection. But if for sale then doesn't really matter anymore.

Maybe longer than you think. I thought they moved before Covid, so maybe 4-5 years.

I’m afraid I’m reached the stage of my life where 4 or 5 years ago just doesn’t seem like very long :P Somehow, the Covid years just don’t seem to count either - or maybe that’s just me as well.

I know what you mean. Time flies by and Covid stole a couple of years from everyone's timeframe.

Not true on the parking. There is a lot behind the place that one can use.

I was a fan of L'Auberge when we lived in Jomtien. The owner/chef made the best Potatoes au Gratin that I have ever had. I think the bigger problem with buying this place is how does one replace the talent of the chef/owner.

Yes, the location will not lend itself well to walk in customers.

The owner/chef is staying in Pattaya and says he’ll help the new owner get started, but things are bound to change.

The current owner/chef has gotten older and it is probably a good move for him to start to step back from things.

Yep, that’s the reason he’s given. Still in good health, wants to stay in Pattaya but has been in the restaurant business for 41 years. About the last 10 or so in Pattaya, I think.
