How to reduce my budget when travel?

Guys, travel is the time for us to enjoy and relax, however when we talk about travel that might be related to cost of travel. So any suggestion for reduce cost of travel?

Eat thai food as much as possible.. over a whole week's time u would be surprised how much u can save

Stay in your hostel room

Cheap accommodation, eat mainly thai food, longtime from beer bar or clubs which gives you 2-3 shags for 1.5-2k baht per day.

Drink local spirits like sangsom soda, and / or buy the drinks in a shop instead of a bar.

Another factor is transportation. Use the cheaper options there as well and your holiday will be very cheap.

Whenever you see balloons it means there is a party of some sort, food will be served, but they would expect you to buy drinks; Soi 6,7,8 WS, Soi Metro, etc

Does your hotel rate include breakfast? My usual hotel in Pattaya does serve a big buffet breakfast every day including fresh prepared egg dishes. If you can eat three courses - cereal and fruit, eggs with sausages, bacon and salad, toast with coffee or tea, fruit juice - you probably will not want lunch or maybe just a light snack. Saves me maybe 200-300 THB.

Girls' prices vary. Best value and best performance are bar girls. So not Walking Street area. Cost varies a bit but in the region of 300-400 bar fine; 1000-1200 short time (2 hours); 1500-2000 long time (overnight).

If you take the same girl several times the rate may go down a bit. Drinks and snacks etc are extra.

You can eat well at Pattaya Beer Garden - draught beer as well as bottled - on a pier at south end of Beach Road. Check web for menu and prices. Good place to take TG, she'll love it.

It's a common experience that, as we move from being ten-day millionnaires on our first trips to Pattaya towards longer-stay, we travel more simply and cheaply.  Although it is of course 'up-to-you' !

One major discovery is when you start to come here outside the December/January/Songkran peak-season.

On the airline-ticket front one becomes more-aware of cheaper-options, with connections rather than direct non-stop, and on more-colourful lower-service airlines via less-direct hubs.  Become aware of Sales, use a search-engine like Skyscanner, instead of your national-carrier.  The use of a frequent-flyer programme, or a particular airline-alliance, can also reduce the cost.

Accomodation is another obvious major expense, but as you become familiar with Thailand in-general & Pattaya in-particular, you discover cheaper-hotels or (better IMO) guesthouses, which are cheaper and also offer longer-term deals.  You also find that you no-longer need to stay close to the beach, but discover cheaper/less-touristy areas like Buakow/LK-Metro or Naklua or Jomtien.  For beach-huts you'll probably need to venture further-afield, perhaps to the islands.

Hostels (whether backpackers or official-YHA/HI) are great for meeting locals & other travellers, but they're less-popular/prevalent in Thailand or S.E.Asia, since these are already relatively-cheaper places to visit !

Others have already mentioned the delights of street-food, and the cheaper farang-food places, you don't need to eat in a hotel-restaurant but can take more time to discover the cheaper (and often better !) alternatives once you're not hurrying to cram everything into a shorter-trip.  If renting a cheaper condo/room monthly, then you naturally start to have the occasional simple-meal at-home, you're not compelled to eat-out three-times-daily.

Boozing can be adjusted to when-you-feel-like-it, you're not time-pressured to be permanently under-the-influence, which anyway will affect your health sooner-or-later.  You'll discover cheaper-drinks, cheaper places to drink, and the fun of simply watching the world go by.  Ringing-bells is also a habit to get over !  You're not at home now, you don't have to buy a round in-the-same-way, the locals don't understand or respect you for it, so just do it when you actually want to  ...  your birthday, or celebrating winning-the-lottery, or whatever.  Ditto buying lady-drinks, to a lesser extent.

Horizontal-jogging is of-course a major interest, and expense, for newbies.  But once the time-pressure is off, you can discover that 'up-to-you' means you really are in-control, and can decide just what it is, that your actually prefer ?  I believe that deciding this can actually be a mjor hurdle for some longer-stayers to overcome.  But again, as with food, you can down-trade from go-go's to beer-bar-girls to freelancers, and find an often-more-interesting experience, and definitely a cheaper one ! 

People already mentioned baht-buses, and the Bell-Bus or local-bus from/to Swampy are fine, once you're no-longer in-a-desperate-hurry !  Taxis are convenient, but why spend the cost of a Soi-6 ST or a beer-bar LT even, just to shave an hour-or-so off the journey ?  You meet such nice helpful people, local and farang, on baht-buses  ...  and also ladyboys & pick-pockets  ...  welcome to the real world !

Activities/attractions are another area where one can save, without necessarily missing the experience totally, for example the 30B each-way ferry to Koh Larn can be fun & is vastly-cheaper than the private-hire speed-boat which I'll admit I took once, to impress my Swedish-girlfriend !  Buakow Market is just a much fun, and cheaper, than going to the Floating Market !  Getting your short-term lady-friend to take you to the wat one morning, rather than that place on the Naklua coastline, will still cost you but less.

Eventually you'll want to see the real Thailand, that fascinating & very-different country that you always knew was out there, somewhere beyond the Darkside. There are overnight-buses or the Thai-train or cheap LCC-flights, to help you discover the countryside and national-parks and islands, once again a native-guide will often be willing to help you spend your money !  You might end up living in-country, you can still visit Pattaya  ...  for the culture/golf obviously !

Shopping for books (see book-exchanges or your guest-house old-book-shelf), or clothes or souvenirs can also be cheaper or expensive, those nice air-conditioned malls come at-a-price !  Look at what the locals, or longer-term expats, do.  In fact, simply people-watch, that's invariably cheap !  Look for a good cheap-charlie thread on here, too !

Relaxing and travelling don't need to be expensive, take your time and go-with-the-flow, instead !
