Christmas Dinner 2018

The thread on Thanksgiving dinner made reminded me that Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat.  Below are the first two adverts I've seen for 2018.  Please add to this thread with info you see about Christmas dinner options in Pattaya.

For me, every day in Pattaya makes me feel like Santa Claus.  I can't help thinking, "Ho! Ho! Ho!"

Christmas Carvery Buffet at Hard Rock Cafe Pattaya – 24/25 December 2018

HR2!

Start your festive season with a Christmas Carvery Buffet at Hard Rock Cafe Pattaya on Monday 24 – Tuesday 25Dec 2018. All-you-can-eat Christmas Carvery buffet features a variety of Christmas-themed dishes such as traditional roast turkey, glazed ham, beef wellington, braised red cabbage, roast pumpkin, Christmas pudding with brandy sauce and fruit cake, as well enjoy a complimentary glass of traditional mulled wine, just to name a few.

Christmas Eve – Monday 24 Dec. 2018 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Christmas Day – Tuesday 25 Dec. 2018 from noon-3 p.m. & 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Santa Challenge for lil’ rockers from 7 p.m.-8:45 p.m.

Bt 999 net per adult

----------------------------------

Previous years there was also a similar (but better value) meal at the Starz cafe in the Hard Rock hotel, and when I went it included free-flow beer and wine. In later years the free-flow became a single glass, which wasnt very jolly of them and so I stopped going.

The Hard Rock hotel has two options for Christmas Eve and Day meals.  One is the "Santa Rock" carvery buffet in post #2 (@kitten kong - Thank you!) and the other is "Crimson Christmas" in Starz Diner.

Untitled-12.jpg.ebbd6ee5533e08bbdd7ed0bedd6f4b7c.jpg

I've had both and both are good.  The more expensive option at the Starz Diner was a huge buffet with a lot of appetizers and non-Christmas dishes as well as the traditional Christmas fare.  There's plenty of stuff (sushi and other seafood, Asian hot dishes, Asian desserts, etc.) that appeals to Thais and other non-farangs.  I want to fill up on turkey, stuffing, gravy, hopefully cranberry sauce and Christmas pudding.  I don't care about appetizers and sides, so the limited carvery in the Hard Rock Cafe is fine with me.  However, if you have a Thai partner along, then Starz is better unless she's really into farang Christmas food.

Maybe I’m being dense :P but I can’t see which restaurant is offering the second menu in the first post of the thread???

Ill be following the thread as usual, though it’s highly unlikely I’ll be there for Christmas this year. Friends usually go to Dicey Reilly's now - though I wasn’t over impressed with it when I last joined them. It was ok but not brilliant.

I went to Dicey Reilly’S last year for Christmas dinner did not rate it at all.

The turkey was as dry as cardboard the roast spuds were very under cooked and the Brussels sprouts were like mush.

I was expecting better as I often visit Reilly’s For their Sunday roast buffet which  is spot on.

It was 2 years ago I was there. Not as bad as you describe. As I said, it was ok - just not up to the standard I’d get if I cooked it myself :)

Friends like the buffet option and there’s plenty of choice for Thai family members who join them.

......

There is a Sportsman's logo near the bottom. The only place I am aware of with that name is a little place on soi 13 near the Sandy Springs hotel. I used to grab a burger in there from time to time many years back. It's ok, but not what I would want for Xmas dinner.

Same comment on Hemingway's in that I would not be confident that they would get the bird done right.

The Starz Diner option sounds good in that my frequent dinner partner, and for Xmas probably a couple of her mates, are not big fans of Farang food. This sounds like a decent target to make everybody happy.

(@Evil Penevil - Thanks)

hmm - that is going to get pricey. Oh f it, It's Xmas.

Thanks. Still can’t read it on my iPad even though I now know it’s there :D

I don’t go to either the Sportsman or Retox any longer so they wouldn’t be options for me - even if I get to Pattaya.

Around 1000 baht (or even more) has become the norm sadly. A very few places still do cheaper, I think.

I wonder if the Chunky Monkey will have an offering? He did good grub when he owned Robin’s Nest. It went rapidly downhill after he sold up to the Sportsman group.

But for those of us who enjoy a more cheerful approach to Christmas, please keep the suggestions for dinner coming!

BTW, the 1951 version of Scrooge! featuring Alistair Sim is the best film treatment of A Christmas Carol.  Sim was a great actor and captured Scrooge perfectly.

A few more options,  but they seem expensive and not very Christmas-like. Every restaurant owner who serves turkey roll at a Christmas dinner should be boiled with his own pudding and buried with a sprig of holly through his heart.

The Inspire Web site was the source of the ads below.

Still more options for Christmas dinner:

Chik n Coop is a value-for-money (500 baht) ,  all-you-can-eat option for anyone interested in a U.S.-style Christmas dinner.

Thanks for starting this thread, will be keeping an eye on it as I’m a bit stumped on where to book for Xmas dinner, hard rock is my current choice but I have been told by some expats that buffet dinners can be a pain if the place is busy as you have to queue for your food which kind of ruins the Xmas day experience, so I will be keeping my eye on here for other options

And if money isn't a concern,  here's a suggestion for Christmas Eve and Day from Casa Pascal on 2nd Road near The Avenue:

Untitled-1.jpg.1134c192dc63a42cb2296c2126808515.jpg

The buffet at the Mercure on Soi 15 is much cheaper, but I doubt it will be very Christmassy, more of an Xmas buffet.

Thank you again.  You've definitely earned your place on the Nice List.

And for those looking for a fine-dining experience:

The prices are reasonable for a restaurant of Bruno's standard, considering pubs are charging around 1,000 baht for Christmas dinner.
