Read a story in today's Northern Territory News. That's a poxy fucken newspaper in Australia that tried to ruin my life. Anyway, one of the stories was about how the majority of people presenting with HIV in the NT have acquired it in SE Asia. I'll try to get a copy and scan it in. Like all journalism, especially from the NT News, it could be shite, but if it is true, or at least a bit true, it says something.

What I have read is that the inside of the foreskin is lined with special cells called something like Langerhans (sp) cells, which take an infection on the surface like HIV and brings it to the immune system to be disposed of. However, the body cannot get rid of the infection and it replicates there.

 

The absence of these cells in a person who is circumcised lessens the risk the virus will be 'escorted' into the body by the well-meaning cells.
