Australia's largest state bans greyhound racing!

The Four Corners report showed there is a lot to this industry, which most people don't know about... gambling will ensure this 'sport' doesn't disappear from NSW. I know a place in Sydney which has regular cock fighting meetings. That 'sport' has been outlawed in NSW for a long time!

Harder, but not impossible, to run a clandestine greyhound race (no doubt with a live lure eg. a possum or a rabbit) than it is to find some shed or warehouse and operate cock-fighting.

The one thing in common? Degenerates, the lot of them.

Can't do anything to clean it up. The industry has had plenty of time to 'clean up' but it's failed to heed the warning signs and do so. This is not a sudden action. The warnings have been out there for a long time.

What about all the good guys? They may have been 'good guys' but they weren't proactive enough to do anything about the problems.

Seems like someone whined....and they fucked everyone. No. They only 'fucked' the people who deserved to be fucked...those that repeatedly breached the law.

I haven't lived there for 25 years but havnt they seemed to have gone all the way to being fucked up,just because of a few bad operators? 25 years is a long time but that's another matter... there were more than a 'few bad operators'.

Kinda like the lock in rule? Maybe... but just because you don't agree with another country's laws doesn't mean the laws are a bad thing. How liberal is Canada v Thailand when it comes to prostitution?

I don't know anywhere else in the world that does that sort of thing.

I dunno,maybe I'm wrong...but Greyhound racing? Possibly....

Surely the money is there to stop dogs being abused? Money from where? The industry? Not likely because they had their chance to clean up and didn't.

The easiest way to set up an illegal/unlicensed/flapping track would be in the same way the miners did in the UK years ago for Whippets i.e. a straight course up to about 300 metres with a hand or electric driven lure.

Still very visible but maybe possible in Australia?

It would find a use for all those Greyhounds presumably left with nothing to do and of course provide a basis for live betting.

In practice I doubt the feasibility of it.....too easy for the police to find out about it.

Live lure?

I'd never heard of live hare coursing in Australia but apparently it did go on and was banned there in 1985.

Again too difficult to stage.

Live coursing is 'sold' as being the only true test of a running dog and of course those of us who have kept them have probably done it in the past for that very reason.

Where betting becomes involved, especially spectator betting (rather than owner) is when things go wrong and malpractice becomes prevalent, as was always the case in UK Greyhound Racing.

Is horse racing next?

Congratulations on recognising that your life was out of control and doing something about it. It's only natural for addicts on baby steps to develop a superior tone, but maybe you could channel that excitement about your new found sobriety in a more positive way. Maybe start a thread?

Remember, anyone can make a cunt of himself from time to time, but some are coming off a higher baseline.

All the best.

Yes I often think a fresh start on PA with a new BN might be the answer.

What do you think?   LMAO.gif

Good idea. The ego is your enemy in early days. You've got a lot of baggage here. Have a talk to the mods and I'm sure they'll be supportive.

You keep saying " they" had a chance to clean it up, you mean the Greyhound industry?

Its up to the Govt to clean it up not the people in it.

Do we ban Taxi Cabs and say to the industry to clean it up, or is the Govt handing these people livences , its the Govt who give grethound trainers the licences to operate ...not the industry.

Theres more to this story that meets the eye , yiur gulliable and naive if you believe what the State Govt tells you .

Wentworth Park Greyhound track will now be sold to developers for millions of dollars to put apartments up.

You keep saying " they" had a chance to clean it up, you mean the Greyhound industry? Yes I mean the industry. Greyhound  Racing NSW is responsible for the greyhound racing industry in that state. It operates under Govt guidelines but it's solely responsible for the industry.

Its up to the Govt to clean it up not the people in it. No. The Govt sets laws and guidelines for how the industry should operate. If the industry fails to heed the laws and guidelines the Govt steps in and takes action.

Do we ban Taxi Cabs and say to the industry to clean it up, or is the Govt handing these people livences , its the Govt who give grethound trainers the licences to operate ...not the industry. No. We don't ban taxis BEFORE they've been advised to clean up their industry.  /   No. Trainer licences are issued by Greyhound Racing NSW which isn't a government department.

Theres more to this story that meets the eye , yiur gulliable and naive if you believe what the State Govt tells you . So who should I believe? Joe Blogs the greyhound trainer? The handful of desperate punters propping up the industry at Wentworth Park? Got any other Govt conspiracy theories? 555

Wentworth Park Greyhound track will now be sold to developers for millions of dollars to put apartments up. That's a great idea. It should be redeveloped to provide housing or maybe they could build a casino and hotel with a shopping centre and cinemas so that 1000s could be housed, employed and use the land for something other than an archaic 'sport' that benefits no one outside of a failing industry.
