Professional Football in Pattaya

Looks like Pattaya United gave Muang Thong United a run for their money though losing 1-2. Would have been a good game. Too bad I was not there.

Things not looking good at the lower levels.  The two existing lower level clubs lost their matches.

Inter Pattaya which seem to have a decent outfit and set up may be in trouble with the Thai FA based on their Facebook page. Too bad, was rooting for them, playing decent, winning games, some good players, set-up.  But seem to be in financial trouble. Will wait to see what happens.

pattaya played really well.. hit the post... just ran out of steam towards the end... some seriously good play from muang thaangs strikers... they guy in the mask is the top goal scorer in the league, he's really good.

anyway.. after the first few loses i was worried we would go straight down.. now it looks like we'll easily stay up

oh and that match was a complete sell out..... couldnt get in on the door if you were late!

What happened to Pattaya United? After 5 straight wins and a narrow 1-2 loss to Burriam there was a 6 goal hammering now 5-0. against lower ranked teams.

There were questions of the coach staying on after the 6 goal defeat but from their Facebook page he was there last night. Have not been to the game as I was out of the country but interesting.

Anyone went to the recent games? Or know how to contact the management team. Would like to do an interview with them.

Ah, the backroom politics of Thai football. No wonder Thai football have not really developed much.

Having been in Malaysia, they seem to have been through their  upheavals and now getting their act together.  The football quality there is patchy like here but the administrative structure behind the play seems to be better. Need to look at it more but a bit hassle for a visitor.

So a break for the Karin Cup and then in two weeks regular football.  Oh well. Wishing Pattaya United all the best, and hope they manage to stay up. The best lower league team (Inter Pattaya) is no more and the other two does not seem to have what it takes to be in League One.

There are a few sites you can use.

http://www.scoresway.com/gives you all the Divisions in Thailand.

http://www.thaileague.co.th/official/gives you the Premier League clubs.

http://www.d2.in.th/gives you the D2 sides which are Pattaya FC (Bangkok East) and Pattaya City FC (East)

As to local updates its a bit harder. The clubs use thier Facebook page often so check on them out to find out when exactly are the games.

Pattaya United claimed their first big scalp of the season beating Bangkok Glass 2-1. Pattaya played decently though both teams were at time lazy.

Bangkok Glass wasted lots of opportunities especially their #23.  This is good news for Pattaya's new manager. But Milos, got the team sorted out, had 5 straight wins and then one loss before being asked to leave. Hope they stay up.

Next game is away to Navy on Wednesday.

For the few. Many of the foreigners at the games are German for some odd reason.

Pattaya United appears to have gotten a new sponsor Nongmaka. And their Facebook page now has more English on it.

After drawing with Navy (1-1)  and losing to Chonburi (0-2) they play Bangkok United today.

There is also home games next two weekends (Sat 2nd & Sun 9th) then an FA Cup game against Muang Thong on the 13th.  Should be a good period to see where Pattaya stands in terms of football.

For the Few

Pattaya United backroom changes are settling in with new sponsor NNK, coach, and players.  They are still inconsistent on the field but have been playing almost two games a week for the past three weeks.

Pattaya was lucky not to lose against Army today. A 2-2 draw would be considered good.  Their main player Pinto Junior is third in league scoring. Should be a good end of the the season where they battle to avoid relegation.

Next home game is on 31st July against Chainat.

For the few

Thai Premier league has started with Pattaya lucky to be in. So far they have won 1 lost 2. Next game is away on Saturday to Nakhon Ratchasima. Before being home to Muangthong United (big brother) on the Wednesday 8th March 645pm. Muangthong beat Japanese champion Kashima Anthers (sp?) recently in the ACL 2-1. Should be a good game.
