18 Coins - what the xxxx ?

First time back in Pattaya for 2 and a half years and I got a shock today at 18 Coins. Obviously under new ownership and the food was awful. Thai and English food.

 

I had the full English. Warning signs straight away when I couldn't find the English mustard. Rubbery and sweet tasting "fried bread."

 

My wife said the Thai grub wasn't nice either.

 

Ended up leaving most of the food.

 

What's the score with the previous owners?

the owners tried to stiff the restaurant by upping the rent so it shifted almost opposite to what had been Eat Wells and it became The Coins.

the thai owners have since found getting food right for falangs is not as easy as they expected.

 

the Coins wins heads n tails as far as customer numbers go when i walk past which is on a fairly regular basis

Use the coins across the road as suggested or Jockys on soi lenkee same same

The coins has some great daily specials , and pretty decent grub. And jockeys is also very good.

love the full breaky at 18 coins ...you got to be careful which one you go to because the one opposite side of oasis is fucking shit!! the other one with the good looking paper girl opposite is the best breaky I have found,no need to go anywhere else.

 

the one you went to my girl also mentioned the thai food was shocking she eats everything that's put infront of her but left the whole meal after one bite

i think you mean you like the new place from the location you are talking about in which case it's the coins, not the 18 coins.

I didnt try yet the new coin, but from the old one upon the accomodation i had bad memories, never again. On food was good enough.

I had the "today's special" at the new Coins a few days ago. At 155B I could not fault it and I would certainly go again for that. Cant comment on the regular menu or the drinks.

i've never eaten at either so i am no position to offer an opinion on the food.

but i have seen the ex-pat............. cartoon man who knows his way round the eats in town, in the coins several times

The Sunday roast at the Coins is very good, 155 baht. I always go there.

I tried the breakfast at The Coins this morning. At 140 baht (smaller version available at 100). Probably one of the best I have had.

IMHO I think 18 coins is trying to cater for the Asian backpacker market!

 

Back in August they where offering a 149B breakfast buffet, which looked on the nasty side!..

Far better breakfasts available within 2-3 min walk for the same Baht

I have never been impressed with 18coins/eat well/coins/jockeys 150B  fare!  Very average places flipping over the Baht before they sell!
