Bangkok vs. Pattaya - reviews and recommendations

Planning a trip to Thailand - first timer.  Not all that into mongering....

But interested in suggestions/recommendation of which city/destination might be the better option on sights, prices, hotels (budget to mid), day trips, safety, amenities, friendliness, etc.

Like I sad, it will be my first trip ....

I am mid 50s male, in decent shape, no health restrictions.

Would like to do the usual, get some massages, take pictures, do tourist stuff, and be safe (not tussle with any of the local touts)

Thanks in advance.

do both, simple, they are close enough it doesnt matter. 1hour in taxi 1000baht easy.

For a monger, its Pattaya hands down !  Im now in Bangkok.  If you want to see the goods, don't bother with Nana.  Then, Soi Cowboy has only a few bars that meet the bill. Check out the bars on the street behind soi cowboy..  Expensive drinks, attitude, limited choice that is Bkk.  Go to Bkk for electronics, food, and noise.

In Bangkok now, wish I had just went to Pattaya instead. The mongering areas seem to be much more packed and are more expensive. its a complete shit show if you like hunting for gems in the beer bars like me. They have them in Bangkok of course, but nowhere near the sheer number of Pattaya. Also, live music seems to be a wash.

Other thing about beer bars here - they are crammed between buildings for the most part. This means you don't get the airflow like the ones in Pattaya, so sweaty balls and lingering second-hand smoke seem to be common problems.

Sukhumvit between Nana & Soi Cowboy doesn't seem to have baht buses and traffic sucks balls. Honestly, that's prob one of the biggest things I miss right now.

Seems to be a lot less girls in the go-gos than Pattaya, but that may be because of Songkran. More expensive and the girls seem more wooden (maybe because they have no family to spend Songkran with?).

I will be in Pattaya after a few more nights here in BKK. Very much looking forward to it.

As others have said you need to try Bangkok at least once. Its a different flavor and I do think the overall quality of women is a bit better, especially in the free lancer category. Also a much better selection of international dining if that is your thing.

Two minutes and 15 Baht on the skytrain.

I much prefer Bangkok to Pattaya, but if beer bars/go-gos are your main priorities, you may as well just head to Pattaya IMHO.

Bangkok is quite busy and I Would not suggest it for a Holiday trip on which you actually want to relax.

When you are into Shopping and want to see all the high so stuff than Bangkok is still quite nice.

Wonderful, another thread of Bkk vs Pattaya which is like comparing apples and oranges. Pattaya is a brothel, Bangkok is a wonderful city. Some hate Bkk others hate Pattaya. If you are not into mongering much Bangkok wins hands down.

Pattaya wins for me but always like to spend 3/4 night in BKK aswell its a mad crazy city !

My only really bad experience in 10+ years of traveling to LOS occurred on Sukhumvit RD in BKK. I was walking @ 0130 hrs (Skytrain not running) from Cowboy to Nana when two ladyboys suddenly attacked me. A very big one grabbed & held me while the other attempted to get into my pockets, which, fortunately, were zippered shut. Then they ran off without getting a single Baht. Amateurs!

The experience, I suppose, was innocuous, except that it has left me with an indelibly bad impression of BKK & a strong aversion to ladyboys.

CHEERS!

Pattaya is unique, Bangkok big city less so.

I prefer Pattaya, but for me Gogos/nightclubs way better in BKK than Pattaya (although seen some stunners last night in walking street gogos, might hold that thought )

I still like BKK and like the spend a few days there each trip.

For mostly sight seeing skip pattaya. Bangkok or if you still want a beach holiday Phuket or Samui maybe hua hin if just for a few days.

For temples and outdoors chiang Mai.

Bangkok has lots of interesting things to see too but of course is a big city and not a laid back beach town.

All the above places have some mongering available which will be enough if that really isn't the priority.

Live music is 1000000% better in bangkok than pattaya.

Quality girls are the same or cheaper(I said quality).

Getting from nana to cowboy is so easy!!

Motor bike taxi or train.

Lot's of people might not bangkok but most agree it's got a higher concentration of quality girls in the go go's

Depends on your taste. Big city vs interesting small city :)

If you are not into mongering I wondering why you are on PA? book an escorted trip to see the sights of Thailand.

I'm staying near Soi 4 on sukhumvit for one night. Where are some good live blues bars?

Nothing but the blues - take the BTS to Thong Lo and its a few mins by moto

Saxophone - BTS to Victory monument and its a short walk

If you're not into mongering at all, me personally, i would skip pattaya and do bangkok and krabi region (Google up some pics). Bangkok if you like big cities and all that goes with and for temples. Don't deal with the traffic, ride the sky train. Krabi region for the natural beauty. Buy a guide book. How many days will your trip be for?

What street is behind Soi Cowboy? Are you talking about Soi 23 which runs from Sukhumvit Road up past the top end of Soi Cowboy?

I'm not into mongering, and I enjoy PA although I'm quite new to it. PA to me is not all about mongering, or have I not been a member for long enough?

Avoid pattaya if you are not into mongering, Bangkok is a world class city

Get a hotel on or near the skytrain and slow down,Bangkok is not like London or Paris no great museums or art galleries so it's not really a cultural experience except it's another culture if you know what I mean.

Read up on what's hot in the restaurant world and if you have the cash stay in one. Of the five star hotels on the river, then fly to samui, on a budget hua him.

When I book my holiday, its usually a 2 week stay at the Sabai Resort in patters, however I am thinking of spending one week in Bangkok and another at sabai Resort. I hear the Bangkok ladies are better looking but a bit stuck up and cost more, but I have never stayed in Bangkok in all the five years I have been visiting Thailand. So even if it is more expensive I think I will give Bangers ago on my next trip. :GoldenSmile1:  :Bye5:

Bangkok is a great spot,I can recommend staying in the Nana area.

That sounds great, will certainly look into that and what I want to see in the neon drenched streets that I have watched  in so many videos but yet to experience. :Bye5:  :Bye5:
