Will the police chase you if you don't stop your scooter for them?

In Cambodia it is OK to run from the police, they will not chase you. I have done it many times and if I see them with a road block I simply U turn it right in front of them. I also just accelerate away if they don't stand right in front of me to pull me over.

While talking with someone he said that in Phuket he ran all the time from the Thai Police on his scooter, he said they won't chase.

I was wondering if people with "experience" know the deal in Pattaya. Will the police chase you if you don't stop for them?

lets say they signal for you to pull over on their typical road blocks they have setup around the beach area of Pattaya. If you U turn it and drive away or simply try and accelerate around them, will they get on their bikes and chase you down?

Please, if you don't have experience or simply don't know, don't try and give information based on what would happen in your home country. This isn't USA or Europe, they are simply not going to call in helicopters here. I just wonder if these Thai Police will get on their motorbike and actually chase you in pattaya.

Thanks.

That's always how a bad news story starts. "Victim was told to pull over by police. He did not and speed away. Police gave chase and shot victim."

Why not stop unless you are a criminal.

In saying that,it depends what kind of road block it is,when they had the music festival at the pier not long ago they had a proper road block with cones ect set up on 2nd road and a lot more cops stoppin cars and bikes, that one i stopped for not much choice. If its just 2 or 3 of them at the side road, probably wont stop, ive seen thais pull over then drive away as the bib approach them, pretty funny.

They may not chase you, however there may be another police stoppage point ahead, they will radio to them and tell them to look for you.

You are taking your chances running from the police in any country, only you can say if it is worth it or not.

It usually works this way, it is worth it if you get away and not worth it if you get caught

In central pattaya where traffic is heaviest there is a greater chance of raising revenue quickly so the bib have these dangerous stopping points putting other drivers, public and themselves at risk, have been in a few near misses sometime i try to tell them its dangerous after they hand back my license they don't give a fuck its all about the money.

i would keep going if it was not safe to stop that would be my call i have heard on here they will charge you more money later i think a 1k baht.

Cop was pulling people over by tukcom.  I had bike with thai license, full insurance and helmet so no reason to pull me over.  He pointed for me to pull over than pointed to another vehicle as well.  He hesitated a bit.  I just kept going.

They have guns. No need to chase you.

Not a good idea doing a runner from Thai Police. This is not Cambodia mate.

Running from Police is not good. I seen this a lot in Cambodia. I also witnessed the consequenses of a mini bus doing a U turn to evade the Khmer Cops. It turned straight into a Mother and baby and killed them. The result was a severe beating from a crowd for the driver and everyone in the bus. And He's probably rotting in a Khmer jail somewhere.

Is there any truth to the police shooting at you for a simple traffic stop run. Or are you talking out of your ass.

I own and shoot guns and the last thing I want to do is shoot at a moving target as I will surely miss and hit someone else.

For a 400 baht ticket without any other cause like robbery or something I'm calling you out on full of shit unless you can prove me wrong.

Mate, I couldn't think of a more difficult place to run from the Cops, than Pattaya. Every motorbike taxi boy has Police numbers and radios. They are their eyes and ears. They are everywhere.

I wouldn't fancy the reception at Soi 9 after they catch you. And that's no word of a lie.

You turn up in Cambodia and declare after one night out "you can pretty much do what you want". You ride away from cops. Despite being a newb to Cambodia and Thailand you think you know it all. If you keep going the way you are I predict you are cruising for a sticky end.

Very true, I would stop at one of those more official road blocks, but the typical road blocks of just a few Thai police officers running in front of bikes, that's a different story.

I watched one of these stops and I couldn't believe that nobody ran, it was so easy. At least in Cambodia they run in front of you and stay in front of you until you are on the side, in Thailand it seems that everybody is too scared to run so they leave nice wide openings for you to accelerate away.

I got so good at spotting police in Cambodia I would spot them from blocks away. I would also go down one way streets to get around them, but that's normal driving in Cambodia. You see there are no rules over in Cambodia and you can do as you please. Worst outcome you lose a few dollars.

Just got talking with my hotel owner and he is a younger Japanese guy. He says that they don't chase here in Pattaya and he runs from them all the time.

These lazy Thai traffic police are surely not going to risk their lives in a high speed chase for running from them when it is somewhat common incident.

You see I wouldn't run if I had my international Drivers permit but I didn't know I needed it or would have got it, actually you don't need it here under strict law but that's another story, the cops want to illegally fine me so what is wrong with illegally running.

Here you go  ( and dozens of similar reports if you want to look for them )

......The first checkpoint was manned by Army Soldiers and District Officers who were randomly stopping vehicles and their drivers in search of illegal drugs. A Mitsubishi Strada approached the checkpoint and was ordered to stop but failed to do so, and sped through narrowly missing a soldier.

As officers gave chase the pick-up approached a second checkpoint manned by Pattaya Police, in front of the Pattaya Provincial Court also in South Pattaya. Once again the pick-up flew through the checkpoint and struck two Russian pedestrians who sustained minor injuries.

A chase involving Police, Army and District Officers took place and eventually came to an end on the Sukhumvit Road opposite the Ambassador City hotel in Jomtien after the pick-up driver lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a street pylon.........

See Pattayaone.net for the fukk report and many many others of police chasing checkpoint runners.

I saw the funniest thing in Isaan one time.  A rather overweight cop stopped a couple helmet less kids on a bike.  As he walked up the kids took off.  He chases a few steps and that was it but very funny to watch.

" U " turns and driving away are dangerous as many of the roads are one way in Pattaya.  Did see a big bike asked to stop by the police and he pulled over to the side of the road and then took off at speed, this was outside the police station, Soi 9 on Beach road.  Two police jumped on their bikes and headed off along Soi 9 I guess to try and catch him on second road but never saw the outcome.  In many years of coming to Pattaya I have never seen them actually chase anyone.

This was not a drive off but a bag snatch where the cops shot at the offenders and hit an innocent bystander.

Though your chances of them opening up on you taking off might be minimal, it's still a possibility?

There you go...

http://pattayadailynews.com/police-shoot-thai-man-at-checkpoint/

Upon questioning eyewitnesses they revealed that 4 policemen had set up a checkpoint at 22.00 pm but hadn’t installed a sign. Later a Kawasaki Ninja entered the checkpoint but didn’t stop so the police opened fire and hit the rider causing him to crash. Lots of local people complained that the police were out of order and there was no need to shoot the rider. Later the rescue team sent the injured man to Wipawadee Laemchabang hospital.

Apparently the doctor looking after this guy has stated that this guy has a gun shot wound to the head (which the police are denying exists). A forensic pathologist (Pornthip Rojanasunand) is to investigate.
