Always, ALWAYS exchange when you arrive. FAR better rates in LOS than home country

Change some at Bangkok airport if you need to (the rate is near as damn it the same as "intown" rates.

I was getting 32.5bht 5 weeks ago..& now the aussie dollar has dropped to 29bht. I'm going back in November..it dosnt look good for us aussie's...so you guys from the UK shouldnt complain getting 62-63bht..thats still a pretty good rate i think.

Eh? That doesn't make much sense mate as the Aussie dollar isn't the same as the UK£ in any case :o

62 is poor, sub 60 is disasterous. Last time I was there is was 61 and it made patts a touch more expensive. The best I have had is 74 but its normally mid to high 60's, or it has been recently.

Weigh it up say the normal rate is 67 for £1 but it drops to 60 thats 7B loss per £1 times £100 thats 700B per £100 loss. Thats 1 x ST lost for every £100 if you take £3k for 4 weeks thats 30 x £100 = 21,000B less per trip and that is a CONSIDERABLE loss.

Wha's like us?

Last month I was getting 66-67 bht for the whole month in Patts but have just looked at the BBK bank and its dropped back down to 62-63 bht for sterling.

Anyone any the wiser about this shift in rates? I thought it was on the bounce back after a dodgy few months around Mar-May time. Weird.

If you want to combat the worsening currency move against say Sterling then it's simple. All you have to do is invest in your budget.

Say you were on holiday 6 months ago and it was 65, now you get 60, that's about 8% against.

Now all you have to do is cut your spending by 8% over the holiday which is actually very easy to do, assuming of course you're not already on a bare bones budget.

Easiest ways to cut i think are on food, booze and hotel. Paying 1200 a night, go to 800, that's a massive saving of 33%. Eat a lot at the cheap thai places on soi bukkou, the ones I've eaten at are great.

When I first started to go to thailand i probably spent around 10,000 a day, now I limit myself to 5,000 and have just as much fun, if not more. So I don't get better linin sheets, all the sports on tv, room service etc, who gives a fuck. If you pick your hotel right, you'd be amazed what 600-800 gets you.

Another great way to save money is to stop taking motonike taxis and crappy bht buses and get yourself a moped for 150 a day. Of course, this assumes you're bouncing around town a lot.

So stop whinging and whining everyone, nothing you can do about ex.rates and instead take my advice - INVEST IN YOUR BUDGET.

According to the Siam Bank exchange rate only 59.8baht today. (Thurs 9.10.08)

I'm 'coming' to Pattaya in Dec. Hope it improves!! Would expect it to rise once Gordon Browns rescue package for the UK banks has been digested by the markets. At least I hope so!

In any event, Pattaya, does not have to be expensive, as has already been said, look for a better priced hotel.

It would seem - at the moment- there will be less of us in Pattaya this Xmas.

A mans gotta do, what a mans gotta do!

This is a disaster. The Australian dollar is very week in Thailand. It is going to prevent me from future trips to LOS.Why bother going. better off staying home.It has gone from 32 baht to 22 baht. Thailand will loose tourism out of this.

Instead of picking up bar girls in thailand, in melbourne and sydney there have been alot of korean, hong kong and chinese student girls looking for action for $100, and they r very good ,some are what u call farm fresh girls .no experience :Laugh1:

Yes, it will lose tourism but don't worry, as we all know the thais have developed an ingenious strategy to combat falling sales - increase prices :22600584-Th:

But this is one of the reasons we like the fucked up country right, makes us all smile.....

Great advice

Yes, it is good advice, even though I say so myself :)

But it's also fun watching your cash and saving money here and there. Might not seem so if you haven't tried it but I'm sure you'll agree with me if you do.

Another tip that I've found invaluable is to on the first day get all your money out in cash (assuming you've got somewhere safe to put it) and then divide it up into daily envelopes. Each one of mine has 5,000 in it. Every day spend just that money, any left over can be put into another evelope as like a savings account, perhaps for a blowout on the final day. Sometimes I do spend more than 5,000 and have to head back to the hotel at night to dip into the following days evelope. So the following day I might only have 4,000 to spend etc.

Plus, do you need 5,000 everyday? I don't think so, personally my cock needs a rest every 3 days or so. On those days I spend probably 3,000 or less.

650 for hotel

150 for bike

250 for food

150 for dvd to watch in room that night (might even be a porno but jacking off is free if you do it yourself :22600584-Th:

500 for general expenses

= 1700 (no booze that day either as I also often need to recover)

PS. Also make sure you have a credit card AND debit card on handy just in case you need access to extra cash.

PPS. I rarely pay bar fines and stupid 1500 ST or 2500 LT. I NEVER pay more than 1500 LT (freelancers) or 500-1000ST. 500 is for under 1 hour, up to 1000 is for ST for more than 1 hour but the girl has to be good for that.

Can't go wrong with J&P Court on Soi Lenkee off Soi Bukkou. I think it's around 700bht a night, newish, clean, pool, nice staff. plus goof location.

The only problem I've found with it is that some of the TV channel reception isn't that good but we don't got to Pats to watch TV do we?

Yes, NEVER buy baht outside of thailand, if you do you can only bet on one thing, you'e going to get a shitty exchange rate. Might as well roll a joint in £20 or £50 notes.

The pound against the baht is only getting worse. Down to 58 today :(

Going next month, worked my budget out on a 60baht minimum. Also most of my holiday fund is in Icesave.

I'm sure if I explain my situation to the girls I can get LT on credit right?

If the US Stock market starts to climb, the we (Poms,Aussies, Kiwis) will be in a better state. The Baht is more or less tied to the US$. As the Dow rises the US$ falls, that seems to be the way it's working during this balls up. Maybe the excellent Thai governemet may cut the link to the US$ as it hurts their exports. I'm not holding my breath.

Why is it that any country with "Democratic" in it's title, Isn't
