England v India - the main event of the Summer

Aye, England played well, hopefully they wont play another decent test at the rose bowl: poor support, not much noise and a soulless ground.

One thing that stood out for me all through this test match were the rows and rows of empty seats .

Sunday to Thursday play didn't help and India's superstar batsmen have all retired now , but a small ground looked to be half full/empty most of the time .

England did perform well in this match  ,   and Alistalir Cook didn't have too many decisions to get wrong .

I don't get why they didn't play a test at Edgbaston, big Indian community in Birmingham. Glad Cook played well, but I am still not sure he has the makings of a top class captain. Hopefully get Finn or another rapid bowler in for the next test.

Jimmy Anderson has his hearing today regarding the incident at Trent Bridge involving Ravi Jadeja .

If found guilty then he could face a ban of up to 4 test matches .  Onus is on India to prove guilt , but Dhoni seems determined  to back his big mate Jadeja .

If Anderson is found quilty then I would like to see Finn leading the attack as he deserves another opportunity.

Anderson found not guilty . also Jadeja .

India won't like that , maybe they should ask for a review !

Looks like my prayer has been answered and Finn is back in the squad - he currently has the 4th best wicket haul in division 1 of the county championship.

Ishant Sharma is injured so the tide could be turning in Englands favour

Steven Finn is back bowling confidently , although England decided to go with the same 11 from Southampton .     Worked well , as India reduced to 152 all out and England 113-3 at stumps day one from Old Trafford .

India will have to perform a lot better on day 2 , or this test could be over quickly , weather permitting of course .

Rain predicted on Sunday and Monday so this will end up a draw - this is terrible news as there would have been a result in this test.

Well its all down to the final test at the Oval to decide the winner.

I don't think anyone could have predicted a win in 2 1/2 days  .     India's IPL superstar batsmen have been found out in proper cricket .   This was a total rout .

Stuart Broad's nose was broken , so an ideal chance to give Stephen Finn a game at the Oval on friday .

England unchanged for the oval , in fact nothing has changed with India 43 - 5 at lunch .

Maybe they should scrap that 20/20 IPL circus rubbish and start playing proper cricket instead .  Of course it will never happen as too many snouts in the money trough .

India will continue to struggle when not playing on their own mudflat wickets .

India are....well they ain't the India I knew. This is their worst test side I've ever seen.

They've managed to beat us in one test too, which says a lot about how poor the England side is as well.

Forget the Ashes if Cook remains in charge.

IF ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL WHERE IS THE REST OF MY PENIS?

Was always going to be tough to follow the likes of Tendulkar , Laxman , Dravid  although there is some talent in this current Indian side it gets compromised by their domestic focus on 20 / 20 stuff  .

I would say England are not a poor side , they are a side in transition , and i predict that Joe Root will replace Alistair Cook as captain within a couple of years .  ( hopefully sooner rather than later )

Mooen Ali has done a super job with the ball , but would still like to see another spinner promoted into the test team with the ashes in mind .

Absolutely

This India side is below average at best ,

I was at the oval yesterday and their bowling attack is shocking...medium pacers and run of the mill spin..

Alastair cook should thank god that India toured here while he was in a funk..if it would have been SA or AUS I think we would have a new captain

Despite destroying India and building some confidence how will this team build any momentum?  Our next test is in April 2015 against the West Indies.

I was very disappointed with India as they just fell apart – Shane Warne called them embarrassing.  This is a new team with a limited number of caps but there was no fight and they just accepted defeat against an England.

Looking at the positives Ali, Butler and Ballance appear to potentially have a bright future in test cricket.  I doubt we will see Prior keeping wicket again at International level.

Roll onto the ODI’s………………

Although England don't play another test until the tour of the West indies next spring , test match series will follow thick and fast from there on  , against New Zealand , Australia , Pakistan and South Africa in that order .

India's perceived prowess at the shorter games should mean that they stuff England in the ODI'S , but the way they are playing at the moment , well .......

Totally destroyed, humiliated and embarrassed by India in the ODI series.

India would have received a tougher series against Bermuda.

Really surprising the lack of fight, given that they should have gathered confidence from their test series performance.

Just goes to prove how different the long and short forms of the game are ... Both require a completely different skill and mind set

Is it the same English side that played the tests ?  :Finger5:

A few changes to the English side , also the Indians have brought in some one day specialists ,    funny old game cricket .

7 months until Englands next test match .   A long wait .

England are probably just going to be fodder at the WC next year. Their ODI form has dropped off quite a bit of late, and their form in test cricket has been up and down. Still a pretty big turnaround from the long form to the short. Probably also reflects the relative importance of the formats to each side.

I reckon its good to have a bit of competition at the top though, rather than just one dominant side. The top 4-5 sides are all there or thereabouts across all formats.

What a great end to a mixed summer of cricket for England – with a victory in the T20 game.  Morgans innings was a pleasure to watch and the victory just deserved.

Why has the mainstream press ignored the booing of Moeen Ali by the large Indian contingent attending yesterdays game.  His father claimed that he was abused because of his Pakistani origins.  I’m sure if any English fans had reached this way then it would have been reported via the media.  Moeen was born in England and is English.
